	Good to know, I suppose. But it's not a problem I want to try and solve. I'm planning on staying as far away from him as possible. [Maybe he should want revenge or to see him brought to justice but really he just wants to stay as far away from him as possible.] You're not the only one who doesn't want to get involved. [ He would've been more impressed if Ianto just fell right into the assignment but if he did, they wouldn't need to be here. So, he takes this prelude to shrug out of his coat. Might as well cut down on the distractions now that he's dealing with such a novice. ]

Said all I wanted to say on that subject. [ Jack being an idiot and sticking his fingers in his ears rather than preparing. Can't watch Ianto 24/7. Can't stop a man who can walk through walls. ]

[Ianto does not look particularly enthused by the instruction. He does not have any illusions about his ability to do any damage in this situation, and it's tempting not to even try but he's here and he's already agreed to this and no matter how it goes Spike is going to have a sarcastic comment at the ready so he might as well just go. So he hefts the weight, and does his best to rush in and take a swing at him with the thing as though it were a stake.]

[ One things for certain: he's not going to go easy on Ianto here. Sure, he won't hit him back. He won't even really scare him by going into gameface — at least not yet — but this exercise would be for nothing if they took it easy.

So, when Ianto lunges he's met with the speed and reflexes of a man who's spent the last century avoiding getting killed. He steps to the side, effortlessly and taps his hand against Ianto's back. ]

[He stumbles a bit as Spike's hand connects, caught off balance. He hadn't really expected to have much luck, and he's prepared to be embarrassed or mocked for it. Instead Spike really does seem to want to help him here, not just make fun of him for his failure. Oddly enough it actually encourages him to try harder this time so he does his best to pivot quickly and come for another strike.]

[ Ridiculing is only good for riling someone up until they can't think straight. That's for fighting, not teaching and under all that cocky brawn and shitty attitude, Spike's dead serious when it comes to survival. You have to put in the work. You have to be smart, make use of your advantage. He's small compared to most vampires and back in the day, he had Dru as the most beautiful liability a man could ever wish for, so he knows what it's like to claw and scratch for a spot closer to the top.

This time the blow lands closer, even if it's not close enough to actually connect. ]

Better... keep going. Think. Don't just rush in, swinging wildly. Be smart about this or you'll just wear yourself out for nothing.

[As for Ianto, while he's survived a lot of horrible things most of them have been because he's part of a team or, in the case of Canary Warf, through luck. He can research an enemy, helpfully list all of its weaknesses, but putting them into use in a fight is another thing entirely. He knows everything Spike is weak against and aside from his imaginary stake he has none of them. He also knows he's faster and stronger than he is, so it seems like brains really are the only way to stay alive. He takes a step back, regaining his balance and looking a bit sheepish.]

I'm afraid I'm not very good at thinking like that.

	[He has a long way to go before he reaches Giles badass levels, frankly. But he doesn't know that. No point in giving up already so he goes again, at least trying not to flail around too badly this time.] Most of what I do for Torchwood involves guns. I'm not quite as hopeless with those. He really doesn't have anywhere else to go, even if he finds this as strange as Spike does.]
