Day 296 — Real MarinaNova — Central Core Awakening
[The last thing you remember is walking through a glowing door. Whether that was a good decision or a bad one is going to depend heavily on how claustrophobic you are, because right now you are fully encased in a very streamlined, sophisticated pod. It is regulating your body temperature, monitoring your vital signs, administering nutrition and dozens of other odds and ends to keep your body functional and healthy during its stay.

You're not usually conscious for this part of things. If you were, it would be a pretty boring experience. On the plus side, there aren't any tubes or wires attached to you. Those are a little too outdated for technology like this. The other plus is that you can open your pod hatch with a push. Luckily for you, those muscles in your arms and legs haven't atrophied. That's part of the science, but it's not perfect. There will be some aching and discomfort.

Take a minute to take stock of everything. You're wearing a bodysuit you don't remember putting on. You're in a giant, spiraling room you've never set eyes on before and your powers—if you have any—are blocked. But you're not alone. There are other people pushing their own pods open or lying still and silent in theirs. In fact there is a very large number of pods. You might not recognize everyone, but that doesn't mean they weren't an inmate at one time—they were even if it was brief.

For the moment there are no bots coming for you, no alarms going off that you can hear, and no immediate threats. The space is vast and the doors aren't locked, but you also might not recognize them as doors or understand how to activate them just yet.]

(OOC: This mingle is for those who went through the doors only. There will be two additional mingles for those who went through the doors and one for those who stayed behind. This mingle should be confined to the central core. The next one will be for exploring. EVENT INFORMATION | REAL MARINANOVA INFORMATION. Make sure to read these links. They have additional information you'll need for this setting.)

[The frequency with which Chekov finds himself in new and exciting places is alarming. Fortunately, those new and exciting places are rather unintimidating in and of themselves, allowing him to maintain a level head. The teenager takes a moment to orient himself before opening his pod, giving his new outfit a once-over (seriously, not comfortable in the least), and, upon determining that nothing is probably going to try to kill him in the immediate future, inspecting his surroundings. "Inspecting," in these circumstances, involves poking around his pod. Anything that can be moved, pushed, pressed, turned, or otherwise manipulated will be.

He's perfectly aware of the other Mariners who are mobility-inclined. At the moment, they aren't quite as interesting as these--what are they? Certainly nothing like what he has seen of the technology in the dome. Anyone who cares to eavesdrop on the quiet (but spirited) conversation that he's having with himself might pick up phrases like sleeper ship, suspended animation, and cryogenic stasis.]

[ he probably missed deanna's moment of heartbreak, but when they run into each other not long after, it'll become very clear very quickly that she is anything but okay in here. her black eyes are rimmed with red and her face shows evidence of the tears that fell earlier. but she's picked herself up and finally moved on to see what else is here.

finding chekov is both a relief and a point of interest and she decides to focus on that rather than her own despair. ]

Have you discovered anything of interest?

[He looks up from his inspection of the pod. It's immediately obvious that Deanna is upset, but, as she is both a superior officer and a relative stranger, he does not think that it is his place to pry. If she wants to volunteer personal information, then she will, surely.]

I have found many things of interest, but nothing particularly informative. These devices [he pats the pod just in case there is confusion as to which dewice he is referring to] are not dissimilar to those that were used to house the crews of intersolar missions prior to the advent of faster-than-light travel. More sophisticated, I think, and I have not discerned how they work or why we were able to deactivate them from within the dome.

[ they're both out of uniform right now, so it's hardly a situation where they need to worry about that, but this isn't the time to argue it. besides, she's too upset to fiddle with it. ]

It seems to be a growing theory that a lot of the people who are still unconscious are people who disappeared from the dome at one time or another and are currently "lost in the dimensional stabilizer."

[ it's about as comforting as it sounds, chekov. ]

That might have something to do with our being able to deactivate ours. [ there's also the whole walking through the doors thing. ]

[It is easiest, sometimes, to fall back on formalities.]

Really? Is this something that has happened before? Not this specifically, maybe, but something to make that theory readily acceptable? [He isn't all that bothered by this information, although it does have some implications that he doesn't care for.] Then it would seem that no one who has been in the dome has returned home.

[Chekov misses the City. There were crazy magical shenanigans there, but at least people actually returned home.]

Are you able to tell how these machines interact with our minds, Counselor?

Enough people have been "lost" in that manner and there are more people here in these pods than currently reside in the prison we know.

[ he might want to cross-reference with someone else like kitty, but that's what she's getting out of this. ]

So it would seem.

[ she hesitates and then shakes her head. ] I am unable to sense anything right now. I spoke with a doctor and she said they all appear to be alive, but... that is as far as we can tell.

[ with her powers dampened, she can't tell much of anything. ]

But why would they be kept here? [He's talking to himself, for the most part. Of course Deanna doesn't have these answers; no one does.] They are taxing the wardens' resources by being here, and if they are fully unconscious, they are making no progress towards being rehabilitated. There must be a purpose in keeping them here.

[He turns his full attention to Troi.] Is it upsetting, seeing them like this? You must have known many of the people here.

[Chekov recognizes a few from the City, like Doctor Brown. If he took a moment to process feelings--and really, who has time for that?--he might notice that he's a little upset himself.]

[ deanna definitely doesn't have those answers so she just shakes her head gently at his words. no ideas here. ]

It is. [ wow what a question. she hesitates and then glances down the row of pods towards one in particular in the distance. ] My husband is just down that row. It's very difficult to see him like that, but... at least I know he's alive.

[ that's enough, now that she's gotten herself calmed down from her initial shock and breakdown. ]
