Day 296 — Real MarinaNova — Central Core Awakening
[The last thing you remember is walking through a glowing door. Whether that was a good decision or a bad one is going to depend heavily on how claustrophobic you are, because right now you are fully encased in a very streamlined, sophisticated pod. It is regulating your body temperature, monitoring your vital signs, administering nutrition and dozens of other odds and ends to keep your body functional and healthy during its stay.

You're not usually conscious for this part of things. If you were, it would be a pretty boring experience. On the plus side, there aren't any tubes or wires attached to you. Those are a little too outdated for technology like this. The other plus is that you can open your pod hatch with a push. Luckily for you, those muscles in your arms and legs haven't atrophied. That's part of the science, but it's not perfect. There will be some aching and discomfort.

Take a minute to take stock of everything. You're wearing a bodysuit you don't remember putting on. You're in a giant, spiraling room you've never set eyes on before and your powers—if you have any—are blocked. But you're not alone. There are other people pushing their own pods open or lying still and silent in theirs. In fact there is a very large number of pods. You might not recognize everyone, but that doesn't mean they weren't an inmate at one time—they were even if it was brief.

For the moment there are no bots coming for you, no alarms going off that you can hear, and no immediate threats. The space is vast and the doors aren't locked, but you also might not recognize them as doors or understand how to activate them just yet.]

	Waking up in a pod was one thing. Waking up in a pod in a jumpsuit without his coat was another. Finding Inara unconscious... that was just cruel. Mal pulled her out and hugged her close to him for a moment. "Wake up Inara. Come on... wake up." (Reply to this) (Thread)

Having already had her tearful reunion with her husband's body, Deanna is now taking the time to walk around to see who and what else is in this room. She remembers her one conversation with Mal very well, but without her empathic abilities, she can't tell if he's still in the same mindset or not. So she stops a fair distance away before she calls out to him.

"She's alive but I don't believe she'll be waking today."

It's the only real comfort she can offer when her own despair is so clearly written in the tear stains across her cheeks and the redness around her black eyes.

Mal looks up at the woman for a moment before looking back down at Inara. He places two fingers on her neck to make sure the pulse is there before nodding.

"Shoulda suspected somethin'like this," he grunts, torn between hugging Inara to him once more or laying her out. He decides he doesn't care what the other woman thinks of him and he holds Inara's body close for a moment.

"Wish I knew what these people was playin' at," he murmurs again before standing... holding Inara in his arms. He's not ready to just leave her yet.

Deanna has a feeling that if their roles were reversed and she was the one still in a coma, Will would be carrying her much like Mal is now carrying Inara. As it is, she can't say anything and would never presume to judge him. So she remains silent on that subject.

"As do we all," she answers softly, her gaze on Inara. "I spoke with her a few times. We got along very well."

They had quite a lot in common, surprisingly.

"I think it had more to do with a similarity in chosen professions than anything else." Deanna is a counselor. Inara was a companion. From what Deanna understood, they were similar. Inara's might just be in a more physical way.

Deanna nods slowly. "Yes. I am." She isn't afraid. Even without her emapthic abilities, she can tell he isn't nearly as angry as he was back then. Whatever had him so upset isn't there anymore. "Are you feeling better now?"

	Mal lifts an eyebrow and almost says something untoward when she mentions they have similar professions. But he finds he's just not in the mood right now. Teasing Inara when she's down just seems wrong. He frowns at the question. "If you mean am I still ready to kill anyone and everyone, that's gone. I don't know that I feel any better though." Well, it's not that similar. Probably a good thing he doesn't, though. She doesn't really know how she might take it.

Instead, she just nods in understanding. "Now isn't the proper time to ask if you'd like to discuss it, but... if the chance arises in the future, I would be happy to offer the opportunity." Counselor and all. "For now... I think it might be best if we continue onward. We might be able to find out more about where we are and why."

	Deanna can understand that, which is why she just gives a sympathetic nod. "Doctor Jones is around here. I'm sure she could give you an accurate assessment of her condition. She did for me." Meaning Deanna had the heartbreak reaction herself. She gets it. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	Deanna nods solemnly. "It might be different for you and for Inara, but I can't guarantee that she'll have anything else." She offers a small, apologetic smile. 	She knows it's hard. This whole situation is difficult for any of them to manage. But there's nothing else she can really offer. So she just nods. "If I find anything else out about them, I'll let you know." (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	She just nods in understanding. It's very difficult to see someone you care about like this. She understands that firsthand and so she'll take her leave and leave him to his guard of Inara. There's really nothing else she can say or do that will help. (Reply to this) (Parent)
