Day 296 — Real MarinaNova — Central Core Awakening
[The last thing you remember is walking through a glowing door. Whether that was a good decision or a bad one is going to depend heavily on how claustrophobic you are, because right now you are fully encased in a very streamlined, sophisticated pod. It is regulating your body temperature, monitoring your vital signs, administering nutrition and dozens of other odds and ends to keep your body functional and healthy during its stay.

You're not usually conscious for this part of things. If you were, it would be a pretty boring experience. On the plus side, there aren't any tubes or wires attached to you. Those are a little too outdated for technology like this. The other plus is that you can open your pod hatch with a push. Luckily for you, those muscles in your arms and legs haven't atrophied. That's part of the science, but it's not perfect. There will be some aching and discomfort.

Take a minute to take stock of everything. You're wearing a bodysuit you don't remember putting on. You're in a giant, spiraling room you've never set eyes on before and your powers—if you have any—are blocked. But you're not alone. There are other people pushing their own pods open or lying still and silent in theirs. In fact there is a very large number of pods. You might not recognize everyone, but that doesn't mean they weren't an inmate at one time—they were even if it was brief.

For the moment there are no bots coming for you, no alarms going off that you can hear, and no immediate threats. The space is vast and the doors aren't locked, but you also might not recognize them as doors or understand how to activate them just yet.]

(OOC: This mingle is for those who went through the doors only. There will be two additional mingles for those who went through the doors and one for those who stayed behind. This mingle should be confined to the central core. The next one will be for exploring. EVENT INFORMATION | REAL MARINANOVA INFORMATION. Make sure to read these links. They have additional information you'll need for this setting.)

[Ianto climbs the rest of the way out of his pod, not bothering to hid his unease. He can deal with strange and potentially dangerous situations, but he doesn't particularly like to. He hurries over to peer into the open pod next to Raito and gasps in recognition.]

I know her. Rose Tyler. She vanished months ago. [He reaches in as well, feeling for a pulse. It's there, but she doesn't seem to be responding at all to their probing.]

[ He leaves Rose and wanders down the spiral of pods, looking into them. There are some faces he recognizes: Other inmates, all asleep. But nobody he recognizes from back home. ]

At first I had wondered if this might be where inmates are sent when they vanish from the prison, but that doesn't seem to be the case. [ He crouches beside Chuck's pod. Yep, that's definitely the woman who had the dog. ]

[Its unnerving, wandering between the silent rows of bodies, staring down at faces of people he knows or who have vanished in the hundred days he's been here. He's reminded uncomfortably of the drawers where they keep the bodies at Torchwood.]

Did you go through a door to get here? One that was glowing?

[ He nods, moving along to a pod containing an unfamiliar face. Another Japanese man, with unkempt brown hair. ]

A teleportation system of some sort...? Although my clothing...

[He nods, examining a pod now rather than its resident.]

We've got technology like this where I work, back home. Or at least it seems similar to the cryogenics we have. The interface is different, though, and I'm not sure how to wake anyone up with this. If it's from a planet I'm not sure which one it is. Oh, Ianto Jones by the way. Nice to meet you. [Always manners with him.]

I see...

[ He totally ignores that introduction. Instead he's just going to look that pod over thoroughly, picking at his lower lip as he does so.

He's... not exactly sociable. ]

I've seen nothing like this before. Perhaps there are answers elsewhere. [ Because these pods sure aren't telling them anything. ]

[He manages not to be too offended by the lack of manners. There are rather more important things to be dealing with just now.]

I think you might be right. We should see what else we can find.

[He's just approaching what looks like it might be a door if they can figure out how to operate it when he spots the one figure he's been both hoping and dreading to find here and rushes over to pull the lid of his pod open.] Jack! [Even suspecting cryogenics are at play here it's still frightening to see him just lying there, unresponsive. He finds his hands are shaking and squeezes them tightly around ones of Jack's to steady them. Finding himself alone in a situation like this is more terrifying than he likes to admit. He's never liked this sort of thing but at least at home he can always count on Jack to make an inappropriate joke in the face of danger before saving the day like he always does. Now, suddenly, he's on his own.]

[ Raito leaves the pod he's examining to wander over to the one Ianto's spotted. He tilts his head, curious at that reaction. ]

You know this person?

He's my- [Even after all this time his first instinct is still to say 'my boss'. They simply don't like words like couple. They never have.] My partner. [It works, he supposes. Less juvenal sounding than boyfriend. Still a bit awkward, though. He checks Jack's pulse, then realizes it doesn't matter. He can't die, and therefore isn't likely to be a good indicator of anything.]

If I'm correct it seems like only people who have gone through one of those doors are awake here. But it can't be teleportation; I just saw him in the dome a bit ago and that wouldn't make much sense.

[ If it isn't teleportation, then what... Raito thinks, is quiet for some time. When he finally speaks it's a contemplative murmur. ]

A shared hallucination imposed on our minds while we sleep...? [ Similar enough to his Library. ]

That's what I was thinking as well. It must be something to do with these pods. If we're all experiencing the same illusion it must be some sort of technology in these things. I've never seen anything like it.

[ Well, at least he isn't alone in being unfamiliar with this.

There must be answers elsewhere. Raito starts toward that door Ianto had been heading toward before Jack distracted him. ]

[Ianto spares one more glance for Jack, who looks oddly forlorn without his coat. If he were more sentimental he might see if a kiss would wake him up like some sort of fairytale. That's never really been his style, though, so instead he gives his hand a final squeeze before letting go and shutting the pod once more.]

Any luck with the door?

[ He presses his hand against the door with a frown. ]

I'm unsure how to operate it.

Maybe there's some sort of control panel - ah! Here it is.

What an intriguing mechanism...

[ He steps back as the door opens up, then takes a tentative step through. ]
