[Day 279] Video — Closed to Defense Force + Bonnie and Anya
[Baseball practice and the beach party are over or at least over for Kitty. The final pieces have fallen into place and they are as ready as they're ever going to be for this. No reason to drag it out.]

Who's ready to stuff a soul back inside a vampire?

Here's the plan. Listen up and you might want to rewind and replay it a couple of times. I'll make sure to speak with plenty of inflection to keep it interesting. We're going to have two primary locations.

The first is headquarters. Piper, Zatanna, Anya, and Bonnie are going to be preforming the spell. Kitty—the other one—is going to be there ready to phase them while they work just in case. We've also got a perimeter alarm I set up awhile back and some magic security fields, but I want some combat personnel on hand too. Sam, I'm volunteering you. We need you close to Rebecca in case we need to pick your brain about any last minute vampire knowledge. Tieria, it wouldn't hurt if you were there for advisory reasons yourself. Rebecca is going to be our main dispatch coordinator for this operation. Communication is key, right? Don't forget it. We're a team. We talk. It's a thing.

Now this is the part where some of you other combat kids who don't get a direct assignment step up and let me know you want headquarters protection duty. There is a chance we're not just dealing with Spike on this. Rose and Tyki both seem reluctant to let us have our way with him, and they are no joke. Rose is a vampire—strong, fast, fangs. You get the picture. Tyki can choose what he touches. It's a little like my phasing where he can be intangible but he has a lot more wiggle room when it comes to reaching inside someone and pulling things out. He's pretty close to indestructible and he has a blood-thirsty butterfly army. Which is actually true, not just a test to see if you're still listening. We don't know that there will be an attack but we want to be ready if there is. Also, no talking about the plan outside of this filter.

[Deep breath. She should have brought a bottle of water for this.]

The second important location is going to be the library. While this is happening we want to keep an eye on Spike. We've already got a special squad assigned to him and we'll need you to be there to keep him in line tomorrow night at fake-sundown. So that's me, Jack, Data, M'gann, and Wally. Jack is going to be taking point while we secure the area. Ianto is going to be running interference with anyone not involved who thought it was a good night to pick up a book.

That takes care of the mission, but everyone not volunteering to protect the headquarters needs to spread out through the rest of the sectors. We're just asking for trouble if we keep all of our efforts centralized, but you'll also be on call if something goes south on this spell. [It won't be needed to subdue Spike. She's confident her team can handle that, but if the spell has unexpected consequences or effects or someone else just decides it's a good night to make some trouble then they need to be ready.]

So, that's the plan. I feel like I need a lozenge. Who has questions? If I don't answer you Jack will.

(OOC: Plotting post/timeline of events. Everyone on the force should already know about this plan and has probably helped out in some way! Feel free to ask OOC questions over there if you feel a little behind! Jack may be jumping in!

EDIT Notifs are now off for this post. If you tag in please give me a heads up at charmedreality@gmail.com or on plurk at hauntedreality. Thanks!)

I think Jack might act as bait. They have a connection. [Was that a good word for it?]

[ He takes that in, for a sliver of a moment. ]

And he is confident in this course of action?

[ It's out of concern rather than questioning the viability of the plan. Starfleet training raises some issues with that inherent personal risk, and that training doesn't just go away. Least of all when it's been fully integrated into your systems. ]

It's still being ironed out, but I'm sure he's not afraid or unwilling to do it.

I see. As long as he is certain. I simply would not wish for anyone to put themselves at greater risk than is necessary.

The risk is a little different when it comes to him. [Wondering if he knows about Jack's ability.]

[ That, he does not. But that certainly catches his interest. ]

May I ask in what way? I do not believe I am aware of that to which you are referring.

[She changes the filter to a strict private.] He's immortal. I mean he can do the dying thing. It just doesn't stick.

Curious.

[ Which is of course android - or 'Data', specifically - for I am so goddamn interested it cannot even be conveyed.

At least he realizes now is not the time to ask about exactly how that works. ]

Though I cannot say that completely absolves my concern. Regardless of whether it 'sticks,' I still hope that is not an ability upon which he will have to rely.

Couldn't agree with you more. Pretty sure Ianto is another vote for living is better than even temporary dying. It has a certain safety net feature to it though.

I would imagine that to be the popular preference.

Though, certainly, considering the inherent risk of the situation as a whole, it is an ability which is ... [ that delicate pause he often employs before carefully using a casual turn of phrase ] ... good to have.

Seems like it would come in handy. There are only so many things you can dodge—or phase through—before something hits you.

True enough. Hopefully things'll move along smoothly. I've been up against way more impossible odds than this. [But with a team that functioned more efficiently as a team. A family even. Here? People are always coming and going. It's hard to make and keep those connections that they need.]

As have I. [ But, of course, under similar circumstances. ] I am confident that we should have the raw ability to be successful in our efforts, if we can coordinate them successfully.

It is difficult to anticipate that with confidence, as this is a more involved and coordinated effort than I have been previously involved in here. I believe that the potential is there, but the force has not had a great deal of experience in such situations.

No, we haven't. We have individual experience and some team training, but team experience is lacking. It's a good thing, but also not a good thing. [Lack of experience in this case is lack of problems. At least inmate-caused problems.]

Indeed. It indicates a low incident rate, but also means that we are not as well-prepared for incidents when they do arise, as there is some uncertainty as to how well the team will coordinate.

Of course, it may be premature to suggest added training exercises until present circumstances are resolved.

Probably so. I also worry more about our communication than our actual fighting together. That's kind of a new one on me. [It just always seemed to come together before.]

Typically, the exercises I am most experienced with stress communication and coordination more than actual combat scenarios. They are considered the primary elements of any efficient crew.

I don't suppose any of those exercises would be applicable to us? [She's interested, but at the same time, doesn't exactly want to make everything sir and ma'am and mother may I.]

I believe I would be able find a way in which to adapt them to be suitable.

[ No need for all the Starfleet protocol here, but still. There are core principles there. ]

First things first then, but work something up? I'd like to see what you have in mind before we roll anything out.
