Day 275 / Video / Locked to Defence Force
[Jack appears on the screen, a glimpse of his living room behind him. He looks pretty calm, and a lot more centred than he has done recently. Finally getting the best of Spike (because even if he died, Spike still has to heal) has done wonders for his confidence regarding getting the situation settled once and for all.]

I figure it's about time for a general update on the Spike situation. I've spoken to quite a few of you about this over the last week or two, but a general pooling of information would seem sensible.

Everyone should by now be aware that five nights ago Spike went on a bit of a spree. I don't know exactly how many people he attacked, but we have reports or punishment notices for Ton Phanan, Piper Halliwell, Nico di Angelo, Martha Jones and Clay Kaczmarek. There may have been considerably more.

I haven't heard of any fatalities so I'm assuming there weren't any, since he's been pretty careful so far not to kill anyone who wouldn't come back. But if you know of anyone who got killed, or anyone else who got hurt, please let us know – and please encourage people to tell the Defence Force if something like this happens. We can't help if we don't know!

Anyway, I think I've managed to put Spike out of action for a while, so hopefully we have time to do what we need to do to make sure he's not a threat to people's safety any longer. Which means putting his soul back into his dead, demon-possessed body to give him back his moral compass.

Ladies with the magical abilities, how are we doing with the spells? Let us know if there's any ingredients or anything you need, and we'll see if we can get them for you. [One of the spells he found mentioned something called an Orb of Thesulah, and he's not at all sure that's something that can be found within the dome. But there were other spells, and he's had the magic users looking them over for him for feasibility.]

The rest of you? We need rehabilitation points to get Spike's soul back. I spoke to the wardens yesterday and they confirmed that we can pool points for it, but it's going to need a lot of them. So anyone who has any spare points, please can you let me know? Conscienti said you'd need to give consent in person, but we can deal with that nearer the time. For now, all I need is a list of people who are willing to donate points, and once I have that I can go back and ask if that's enough points for what we need. So, names, please!

Aside from that: patrol. Spike seems to have slunk off to lick his wounds for the moment, but I don't know where he's holed up and I don't know how long we have. So patrol. Look out for him or any kind of trouble that he might be behind – as well as the normal stuff, of course. Spike's not necessarily the only threat we have here.

[He takes a breath.]

Okay, I think that's all for now. Questions, comments, suggestions?

[Private video to Anya]

Hey, can I talk to you about Spike?

((OOC: Feel free to approach Jack in person rather than over the network if you prefer. He can be found pretty much anywhere in the dome: at HQ, patrolling (Sectors 0-2), in the library, getting coffee, near his apartment (Sector 4), or even going for his daily swim in the sea! :-)

Also, if you want your character to donate rehabilitation points but don't want the hassle of threading it out, feel free to leave an OOC response to that effect here too, to keep everything in one place!))

Jack twists round enough to give him a meaningful look. "If it's all right with you, I'd rather not have you anywhere near him." It was selfish, he knew, but he didn't care. He wanted people he hadn't lost already to do the dangerous parts of this.

"I could use you to co-ordinate everyone. You're good at that. And for the actual attack team - well. I'll ask for volunteers, but the people with special gifts like Kitty would be the obvious choices."

And himself, obviously, because he couldn't die, but he assumed that went without saying.

Ianto can't pretend he doesn't know why Jack wants him as far away as possible. He's already had two vampire bites and he remembers how frantic Jack was after both of them. If he's death is going to make him stay this overprotective forever they're going to have problems but in this case he knows how personal it is and how badly Jack wants to keep him safe.

"Whatever you need me to do," He replies simply, giving Jack's shoulder a reassuring squeeze. "If you do use the library I'll stay at the front desk to keep people from wandering in but that's the closest I'll get, I promise. And I think you're right about Kitty. There must be some other magic users here who can help, too. Maybe talk to the people who've gotten in fights before, see if they have any insight to add."

He probably won't be this overprotective forever, but it's likely to take a good few years for him to relax over this. He wants a decently long time with Ianto. He's not going to lose him again.

He does relax for now, though, at Ianto's acquiescance. "Library front desk is fine," he smiles. "You'd definitely be good at keeping people away from danger. And yeah, I'll liaise with Kitty over personnel. She should have a better idea of who's good for what. She's been here longer and she knows people better than I do."

He leans into Ianto's embrace and turns his head to kiss his jaw. "Thank you," he says, "for not making a fuss."

Ianto turns his head to allow this to become a real kiss rather than just a peck on the cheek. Sitting here with Jack in his arms makes him feel like they really do have a future here together and if Jack wants to keep him safe and protected so they can enjoy it that's alright with him.

"I couldn't make a fuss over something so important to you," He replies honestly before kissing him again. He tastes like coffee.

"So the plan is to corner him, drag him back to the library, perform the spell and hope for the best, correct?"

The kiss is nice, warm and comforting, and it makes him realise, not for the first time, just how far they've come, being together in this case. How open they can be with each other, and how much better they can read each other. He smiles against Ianto's lips, and is slow to draw away, to focus his attention back on the plan.

"That's about it," he agrees, and grins, settling back against Ianto comfortably. "Do you have any idea how good it feels to be with someone who accepts that that's the normal way of doing things in my world? I've had twenty questions from just about everybody this morning, wanting to know about every single detail of the plan. It's hard to tell them it's just not that detailed!"

Ianto likes the closeness as well. Some days he thinks getting stuck here is the best thing that's ever happened to him, and if this is their one chance at happiness he's going to take it without ever looking back.

"Clearly they aren't used to your style." He smiles and presses a kiss on the top if Jack's head as he cuddles closer to him. "Why over plan things when we all know they're going to change the second the action starts."

Contentment is not a word Jack often uses. He tends to live at the extremes of life - thrills and spills and epic battles and unrequited love that takes centuries to get over. But this? Sitting here in Ianto's arms, sipping coffee and comfortably making plans? This is contentment.

"Exactly," he agrees, grinning. "Of course, there have been some good suggestions and questions, but there's also been a lot of second-guessing and 'should we really do this?' that I could really do without!"

It's not a word Ianto ever thought would apply to their relationship either, which he supposes is the good sort of unpredictability.

"It must be driving you out of your mind not to have everyone do what you tell them without question," He observes with a chuckle. He knows second-guessing never goes over well at Torchwood although to be fair that is because Jack ends up being right most of the time.

"Absolutely! We definitely need to effect a change in attitude around here. I mean, Torchwood was always pretty casual, but the DF puts even Torchwood to shame!"

He makes a face. "Not to mention the number of people actually in the DF who were attacked and didn't bother to raise the alarm - or not until well after the fact. I really get the feeling no-one takes us seriously around here."

"The lack of reporting was rather odd, wasn't it? Maybe things are too as here. When you're not fighting to save the world every other day it must be easy to get complacent." The fact that he still wears suits most days says quite clearly that Ianto has not adopted this attitude himself.

"I think that's definitely a factor here, yeah." He makes a bit of a face. "I think I've even been guilty of it myself. I allowed myself to believe Spike wouldn't pose a threat if I just let him be. After all, it seems to have worked for quite a while in the past."

He cocks his head. "Unless it was something about me being here that set him off. That's a rather disquieting thought."

"You're the only one here that stood up to him. That sort of thing is bound to set him off." Ianto points out before adding dryly, "Also he's a complete lunatic which may have influenced things. Someone needs to stop him, though and we are good at doing the unpleasant jobs it takes to keep people safe."

He pauses a moment then gives Jack a squeeze. "Try not to get killed if I'm not going to be there. I don't like letting you come back alone."

Jack's lips twist wryly at the 'complete lunatic' part, then he leans forward to set down his coffee mug and twists round so he can look Ianto in the eye as he says, "You know I can't promise no to get myself killed. You know that if it looks like someone else is going to get killed, I'm going to put myself in the way if I possibly can. I mean, it's not pleasant coming back, but it's not so bad that it's not totally worth it to save someone else's life."

"I know you'll always sacrifice yourself to keep people safe, even if it hurts. I admire that a lot about you, for the record." Ianto informs him, serious and sweet all at once. He's not in trouble for getting killed the other day, and it's not meant to guilt him into anything. He just always worries. "But if it looks like you can get out of it without anyone at all dying, well, that would be nice, too. I don't like when you die, especially if I'm not there."

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]foreverjack

"I know." He can't deny that it's nice when Ianto's there when he dies - he likes to think he can sense Ianto's gentle care for him even while he's not really present himself - but he managed perfectly well for years before Ianto turned up and he's perfectly capable of doing so again. Like he did the other day, with Spike.

Although, if he were really honest with himself, he would admit that it would have been nice to have had Ianto there that day, instead of having to come round by himself. He consoles himself with the thought that knowing Ianto is out of danger is definitely worth it.

"You know, I had an interesting suggestion from the younger Kitty," he mentions slowly, following this thought through to a different conclusion. "She said she might be able to make the spellcasters intangible so Spike wouldn't be able to hurt them while they were performing the spell. I wonder if she'd be able to do the same to you? Then you could be there."

"No, thank you. There will be enough magic flying around without you having to worry about me, too." Not to mention the idea of being in a situation where he might find people needing his help only to be unable to because he has suddenly become incorporeal sounds terrible. They really are going to have to have a conversation about overprotectiveness after all this but for now it just seems easier to avoid trouble entirely.

"Anyway, what if you did something particularly heroic? I wouldn't be able to kiss you if I was intangible."

Jack can't help but laugh at that. "Fair enough. Far be it from me to prevent you from rewarding my potential heroism! Though, you know, there might be other people being heroic as well. Are you intending to kiss them too? They might feel left out if you don't..."

Ianto grins, glad for the lightened mood. The whole laugh in the face of certain doom thing is something he likes about Jack. He can't resist teasing him. "Would you be jealous if I did?"

"As hell," Jack agrees cheerfully, and then smirks. "Though it'd certainly be worth it just to see their faces!"

He likes the thought of Jack jealous. It's enough to make him set aside his empty mug and give him a smile that's pure mischief and flirtation. "So if I did this," Leaning in for a hot, intimate kiss with just the right amount of tongue to get his attention, "What sort of face would you make?"

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]foreverjack

The smile and the kiss are hot enough that it's a moment before what Ianto says around them filters through.

He quirks an eyebrow. "Are we talking about you kissing me, or kissing them?"

Because they're talking very different reactions there, depending.

Ianto may have started out talking about other people, but all his attention is on Jack right now. "Well we wouldn't want you to get jealous, so I suppose I better be talking about kissing you."

"Oh well then. I suspect that, at that point, a bit high on adrenaline and so on, my reaction might be something like this!"

He he pulls Ianto close again, firmly, and proceeds to kiss the hell out of him for being hot and playful and so damn close.

Between his vampire injury and Jack's death they haven't done much outside of cuddling for the past few days which makes this a very welcome change as far as Ianto is concerned. He kisses back, shifting a bit and pulling Jack practically into his lap. "Exactly the reaction I was hoping for."

"Oh yeah?" He goes with the pull easily, climbing into Ianto's lap and barely moving back at all in order to speak. He brushes smiling lips against Ianto's. "Perhaps we should continue this practice session a little further. Just to make sure we know exactly what might happen."
