[ It's been a long day. An eternity or perhaps just a few minutes, seconds, heartbeats since he woke up to an empty bed and an even emptier apartment. It wasn't too hard to swallow back the panic at first, keep it at bay with positive thinking and the stubborn task of looking in every nook and cranny, of testing the line over and over and over again because sooner or later he would turn up. He'd pick up the call. He was probably just busy, or out in Sector 6 or taking a bath.

He'd show up, sooner or later.

Morning turns to day turns to evening and he's still alone. By now the panic is all-consuming, squeezing at his heart until he can't even breathe. Fingers shaking, Aidan flicks on the audio feed. One last ditch effort. ]

Has anyone- [ But he stops himself there. Sometimes you know the answer all too well. So well that you don't want it confirmed more than you've already done yourself. He draws a deep breath, steadies himself for another short minute. ]

If anyone wants t' know... I know he had a few friends here. Probably more than he knew. Helix is...

Helix is gone.

[ With that he cuts the feed, abruptly, tugs the headpiece off just as frantically before heading down to the beach. He can't think of any other place to go. ]

((ooc: Anyone is welcome to find him down at the beach! Audio responses will be icly delayed seeing as he's pretty damn heartbroken, but they will be responded to eventually. ))

	[If he did disconnect he'd still have to deal with the princess who is getting clooooser, but not quite visible yet because distance is a thing. You'll be Aidan. And you'll miss him. You know... outta all th' guys they brought in 'round th' same time, I was th' only one left. Rest of 'em... [ Dead. ] It don't take much. Some bad food, rancid water... that's all it takes. 'Course, some of 'em got lucky an' got hit in th' raids. That's quicker than shittin' yourself to death, for sure.

[ Crude, but that's what war is like. He can't mince words, even if she is a Princess. ]

Same 'round here, now. With Helix gone... 's just me left from back home. No one else knows what it's like there.

[She's not sure what to say to any of that, but as luck would have it, she's close enough now to see him and to use actions instead of words. She walks toward him, quick steps urgent to get to him slow until she's in front of him, taller for just a moment as she stands and he sits on the sand, but she cuts that quickly enough, dropping to her knees before him and reaching out to wrap her arms around the grieving boy.]

It won't be the same, but you can tell me. Anytime you want to talk about it there. You can tell me.

[ He should've seen it coming but it still takes him by sluggish surprise, limbs unmoving for a moment until he wraps an arm around her. If there's one thing he's learnt over the last few months (both here and home) it's that you cling to the good things for as long as you get to have them, because they won't always be there.

He swallows sharply, throat thick even though his eyes remain stubbornly dry. ]

[Euphie does the same thing when she's hurting. She retracts inward, not wanting to bother others with her troubles. But it only gets worse when she's alone.] I'm glad it's something. [And while her overwhelming feelings are not joyful, she does mean it. Being able to make other people feel better makes her feel better. It is repentance and the only way she knows to connect.]

	It's everything. [ Softly correcting. He doesn't want her to think that he's not grateful or that he doesn't need this right now because he does. He needs it so badly. Whoever he has left here, he needs to cling to them for a little until he can get his feet under him again because the universe just knocked him over and gravity is hard when your center is gone. ] (Reply to this) (Parent)
