243 // audio + action
[ It's been a long day. An eternity or perhaps just a few minutes, seconds, heartbeats since he woke up to an empty bed and an even emptier apartment. It wasn't too hard to swallow back the panic at first, keep it at bay with positive thinking and the stubborn task of looking in every nook and cranny, of testing the line over and over and over again because sooner or later he would turn up. He'd pick up the call. He was probably just busy, or out in Sector 6 or taking a bath.

He'd show up, sooner or later.

Morning turns to day turns to evening and he's still alone. By now the panic is all-consuming, squeezing at his heart until he can't even breathe. Fingers shaking, Aidan flicks on the audio feed. One last ditch effort. ]

Has anyone- [ But he stops himself there. Sometimes you know the answer all too well. So well that you don't want it confirmed more than you've already done yourself. He draws a deep breath, steadies himself for another short minute. ]

If anyone wants t' know... I know he had a few friends here. Probably more than he knew. Helix is...

Helix is gone.

[ With that he cuts the feed, abruptly, tugs the headpiece off just as frantically before heading down to the beach. He can't think of any other place to go. ]

((ooc: Anyone is welcome to find him down at the beach! Audio responses will be icly delayed seeing as he's pretty damn heartbroken, but they will be responded to eventually. ))

Alright. I'll come find you.

[ And when he does show up, it's pretty clear that he's had a head start on the drinking. Enough to be noticeable in any case — he's a decently bulky guy who was raised on grain alcohol, but that doesn't stop the sway in his step or the way he's not in complete control of his movements. ]

Hey.

[Hood in place, Zelgadis glances up from his near-empty mug of beer enough to nod and gesture toward the empty seat. He'll have to keep an eye on this guy and make sure he gets home okay... or wherever he's planning to crash.]

What do you want? I'm about to get another one anyway.

[ He takes a seat, somewhat clumsily but at least he's not at the point of randomly falling over. Yet. ]

Beer's fine... thanks. [ Might as well continue with what he started with. ]

[Zelgadis returns momentarily with two medium sized beers (he's not about to contribute to alcohol poisoning, thanks) and plops into his seat -- stone clattering on wood is never really subtle.]

[Then he takes a long drink to cover up for the fact that he doesn't know what to say and feels awkward as hell. Like he said, he's bad at this.]

[ He gives a little nod in thanks, gratefully taking a mouthful of beer. A small stretch of silence appears. Another mouthful. He should probably say something, huh? ]

So, uh... how've you been?

[It takes a second of incredulous blinking before he can process that. A guy who just lost his... well, someone he cared about obviously... is asking some random guy how he is?]

[Nice people, he really doesn't understand them.]

Fine, I guess. Considering. [The most forced of all shrugs.] All I want to do is find a way out of here.

[ It's a lot easier to care about someone else's well being than his own and with how much he's already been forced to examine his own feelings today, shutting down with some good, old-fashioned selfless caring seems like a good plan.

He makes a little noise of agreement. ]

No luck with that still, huh? You'd think someone would've thought of somethin' by now.

I've thought of lots of things. [Shockingly, he's not indignant because hey, he was getting paid a compliment. Sort of.] The problem is I don't have enough power here to do them. I'm pretty limited in my magic while I'm stuck here.

If Lina were here, and we could access our full powers, we could blow this place out of the water, literally.

What, you mean like... just blow us up? You think that would help? [ And here he thought escaping was something complicated. Maybe not! ]

[He shrugs. When you explode whole towns on a regular basis, blowing up a dome this size isn't much.] With a few precautions in place. I know a spell that protects people from water and would keep the pressure at bay. It would take a lot of energy but between us we could get everyone to the surface. [He thinks. This is theoretical of course, but why not sound confident since it's not going to happen?]

We don't know what's up there, of course, which is why I'd prefer to break the dimensional barriers and get people home that way. But that's failed three times now, and beggars can't be choosers.

...You sure this is the right way? I mean, not everyone here wants to go home. Hell, some of 'em don't have a home to go to.

[ Not entirely liking the idea of blowing them sky high. ]
