Evening 241 } Action } Open Mingle
[ As mentioned by the wardens yesterday, Eric is hosting a costume party. The Blood Shack is lit by candles for the evening (he remembers the last party he had being interrupted by a power outage) and a small buffet of sorts has been erected. It furnishes mostly hors d'oeuvre and finer foods, things that Caroline picked out as Eric hasn't a clue about human food.

There is blood on tap (naturally) as well as a full bar. Eric has made certain to include water, sodas, tea and various non-alcoholic drinks.

The jukebox is playing a variety of music, but patrons are always invited to pick out their own music. The dance floor has a disco ball and there's the ever present 'dancing' pole on stage if someone gets brave. Tables are scattered about as are sofas and chairs so that people have a choice where they sit.

Enjoy yourself, mix, mingle and admire everyone's costume and everyone is required to have a costume in order to be here. ]

[ ow. ow. dr. halsey's disappointment stings, even more so than the same from anyone else, more than any injury kelly's ever experienced. for a moment, she's silent, unsure what to do in light of this. ]

That was my plan. [ and though she's still firmly at attention with her eyes pointed forward, her words are soft, as though she's not sure anymore. ] I was only planning on staying long enough to get a feel for the population. [ and make sure dr. halsey would be okay. then she was planning on running off to find a decent place to stay. ]

[ she's asking a spartan to relax and enjoy herself. she does realize what a stretch that is, right? kelly pauses only another moment before nodding and finally looking back down at dr. halsey. her trepidation over the disappointment and mini-lecture hasn't gone away and she doesn't think she'll be staying much longer at this rate, but she'll do what she can to obey anyway. even so, she's obviously floundering in such a civilian-infested location. she doesn't know the first thing about how to act. ]

...Understood. [ she's totally going to escape as quickly as she can. ]

Just that we seem to be trapped here. ...Someone mentioned joining the Defense Force for something to do. It might also provide us with more information. Our wardens are considered AIs and they're more powerful than most people here.

[ she pauses. ]

There's also a captain here, Captain Malcolm Reynolds.

[Now she's full of questions, which is a good thing. Questions distract Halsey from other things. That ought to help Kelly out.]

There's a defense force? What do we need to defend against? I'[d like to know what's coming after us, and if it has anything to do with those AIs. [She'll carefully file that AI information away for later.]

He's not anyone I've heard of.

Against the wardens and the prison, I think. Someone suggested I join because I seem to be military, but I've also heard there's an information-gathering section. That might help you more than me.

I think the AIs are more like machines to us. They aren't like the AIs we know.

[ yeah she doesn't know much but it's something. ]

I haven't until now, either, but he seems competent. [ she only sounds slightly dubious because he doesn't follow any protocol she's ever known and his speech is different but hey. ]
