Evening 241 } Action } Open Mingle
[ As mentioned by the wardens yesterday, Eric is hosting a costume party. The Blood Shack is lit by candles for the evening (he remembers the last party he had being interrupted by a power outage) and a small buffet of sorts has been erected. It furnishes mostly hors d'oeuvre and finer foods, things that Caroline picked out as Eric hasn't a clue about human food.

There is blood on tap (naturally) as well as a full bar. Eric has made certain to include water, sodas, tea and various non-alcoholic drinks.

The jukebox is playing a variety of music, but patrons are always invited to pick out their own music. The dance floor has a disco ball and there's the ever present 'dancing' pole on stage if someone gets brave. Tables are scattered about as are sofas and chairs so that people have a choice where they sit.

Enjoy yourself, mix, mingle and admire everyone's costume and everyone is required to have a costume in order to be here. ]

[ooc: I've turned off replies so if you want Eric's attention please tag his thread. Mingle here, have fun and be merry? Everyone is invited, including and especially newbies. ]

Indeed, but I suppose that's what we take comfort in once it's all over. [ and she's trying to be encouraged, so it works out, right? ]

Your costume quite suits you.

That is true. I hope there is something that we can.

Oh thank you! I thought it was very exciting. I like yours too.

It is indeed and you wear it quite well.

[ she glances down at her skirt and gives it a little twirl. ] Quite a long time has passed since I last wore one and the group I dragged with me went with an Earth decades theme.

Thank you. I've always thought this style was nice.

[M'gann grins as she twirls around] It looks very nice on you. It is an interesting theme. Your friends are doing other decades?

Indeed and it's from a time I actually wasn't around for. [ there is such a thing as before her time, after all. ]

Yes. Two of us are from the 1950's, one decided to go with the 1970's [ because she practically begged him and it's been cheering her up considerably ], and one chose the 1920's. We decided to go all out for this.

[M'gann doesn't even consider that even though she's not sure when exactly the doctor was born. She isn't going to assume she know that time]

Cool! Maybe you could point them out? I'd like to see the other costumes.

Certainly.

[ and she does. james watson is the one wandering around as a hippie (which to her is absolutely hilarious, considering he's from 1898), dr. halsey is wandering around as a 1950's sophisticate (and yes, helen does respectfully call her "dr. halsey" rather than "catherine"), and rebekah is a 1920's flapper. she will explain all of those costumes if she needs to, understanding that not everyone is from earth or familiar with earth's history. ]

[M’gann’s gaze follows the directions around the room at the costumes in question, taking a few moments to study each of them. They were quite amazing… and such a fun idea. She does ask about the “hippie” and the “flapper” costumes. She wasn’t quite familiar with those]

[ helen can't blame her. they're very interesting, each with a fascinating piece of history. ]

Flappers came about in the time period known as the Roaring Twenties and were generally women who stuck their noses up at the social norms. You can see Rebekah's style of dress is much different from the long dresses with long hair and little make-up that the previous decades had. Hippies were most known for their peace movements, though you can see they also turned up their noses in a way to the acceptable social norms. They preferred very bright and complicated patterns.

[ and a victorian man dressed up as a hippie will forever amuse her, as evidenced by the amused grin she's trying to hide now. ]

That's so cool. So they are both from different time periods where where they were fighting social norms. Earth history is so amazing... and with the most interesting clothing as well.

[She wishes her's was something more exciting like that]

It certainly can be interesting to study Earth's history. I think what amuses me at the moment is that the man wearing the hippie costume is actually from the year 1898.

[ casually getting you back, james. ]

[She chuckles] That is an amusing thought. Such a tme difference.

Earth history is fascinating. I've been debating taking the history class here.

Believe it or not, I'm from much earlier.

[ okay sort of. she's being confusing, just roll with it. ]

Oh, I'm certain that would be very informative, if they know all aspects of that history. [ both the good and the bad, she means. often historians have a tendency to gloss over the bad pieces of history. ]

[ she gives an amused laugh at that. ]

Oh, I don't know. Depending on how the class is taught I might have more corrections to make than anyone would like to hear and I wouldn't want my experiences to counteract what the class is trying to do.

[ like the whole tesla vs edison thing. don't even get her started. ]

Well... [She thinks for a moment] Maybe you could talk to him beforehand and see how he feels about it. I’m not sure how really teaches it.

[ooc: Since I also play “the history teacher”, he probably wouldn’t mind someone to fact check some things]

Perhaps I shall. My own knowledge of history is for a specific period of time, but it might prove helpful. Thank you for the idea.

Indeed, and a great deal of it. I suppose you have a point and it would certainly give me something else to do. [ she offers a small smile. ] Not that I'm particularly idle at the moment.

It’s good that you aren’t idle. I really need to find more things to do. I recently joined the cheer leading group though. I hope he’d be willing to listen to others.
