Evening 241 } Action } Open Mingle
[ As mentioned by the wardens yesterday, Eric is hosting a costume party. The Blood Shack is lit by candles for the evening (he remembers the last party he had being interrupted by a power outage) and a small buffet of sorts has been erected. It furnishes mostly hors d'oeuvre and finer foods, things that Caroline picked out as Eric hasn't a clue about human food.

There is blood on tap (naturally) as well as a full bar. Eric has made certain to include water, sodas, tea and various non-alcoholic drinks.

The jukebox is playing a variety of music, but patrons are always invited to pick out their own music. The dance floor has a disco ball and there's the ever present 'dancing' pole on stage if someone gets brave. Tables are scattered about as are sofas and chairs so that people have a choice where they sit.

Enjoy yourself, mix, mingle and admire everyone's costume and everyone is required to have a costume in order to be here. ]

[ooc: I've turned off replies so if you want Eric's attention please tag his thread. Mingle here, have fun and be merry? Everyone is invited, including and especially newbies. ]

[Toul knows of masquerade balls and costumed galas that nobles take part in. And there is of course the Festival of Many Faces in her own country, but this is not exactly the same, she thinks. Still, a party is worth taking part in as she will never turn down the chance to meet new people and make merry.

So she searched through the costumes and found one she thought interesting enough. She comes dressed in black, carrying a large by fake scythe, and her face painted like a skeleton. What someone may find confusing is that she has used green skin paint to covered every inch of her revealed skin.

She walks around the bar easily, greeting people and trying some of the snacks. She hasn't moved to the dance floor yet, but she's certainly been observing everyone who has.]

[Saetan looks rather awkward in the plastic devils horns and pitchfork he has added to his usual suit, as if he feels he's a bit too dignified for all this. Still, it's a chance to get to know new people and right now he's trying to do just that, drifting around with a glass of blood in one hand greeting people. The skeleton catches his eye and he remarks curiously.]

I wasn't aware skeletons were green.

They would be is they were dyed so. [For Toul, the horns make her think more of a goat than anything else, but she can't quite be sure what the point of the pitchfork is.] Are you a goat herder?

Fair enough point, although I've never heard of such a thing.

I've been told it's what the lord of Hell wears in some worlds.

Haha, I have never heard of it either, although to be honest I only wore this because the scythe reminds me of a legend back home. [Then she smiles.] Well, it is more than a legend now, I know, but the point stands.

What is this "Hell" you speak of? We do not have a country like that in my world.

And what legend is that? I would love to hear it if you have the time, my dear.

Where I come from it's where the dead inhabit, and where I rule. My name is Saetan SaDiablo, by the way. It's very lovely to meet you.

It is good to meet you as well, good sir Saetan. [He is so polite!] My name is Toul. The legend I speak of is of the Death Reapers of my world. They serve the Daiad, our gods. They are powerful and terrifying for they bring change to the world as well as destruction.

[Manners are indeed a sticking point with him, and the fact that she seems equally polite endears her a great deal to him almost at once.] What a lovely name. I'm afraid I've never heard of Death Reapers, at least not in my world. Our demon-dead make their way to Hell on their own, and I don't meet them until they arrive.

Why, thank you. [Her cheeks flush just a bit at the compliment, but she moves on with enthusiasm. She's not used to getting praise like that--or rather doesn't really notice it.]

We have two different realms that the dead travel to, although we would meet all of the gods and their brethren once our souls move on to Daeon. Is your Hell like that?

We don't have gods or anything like that; it was a new concept for me before coming here. There's just me. What are the differences in your two realms? I might be better able to compare if I know.

It is said that Ksaethel will Judge all souls once our spirits have departed the Living Realm and if he finds us Enlightened and worthy we will travel to Daeon where we shall spend the rest of eternity in the paradise of our Gods. But if you are not ready, or your soul is tainted with crimes against it and others, then you will be sent to Exaelius, Purgatory. There the Goddess Saesté heals us or makes us pay penance for the wrongs we've committed.

[She wonders how else to describe it, since really, she's never been herself so what could she truly know of it?] There are many inner realms of Exaelius, but we cannot truly know all of them. Does any of this sound similar to you?

No, I'm afraid it does not, although it all sounds very lovely to be able to look forward to after death. Where I come from once you die you become demon-dead and arrive in Hell, and that is simply the end of it. Its a twilight realm, and while it's not a horrible place to be its not a paradise, either. Its simply a place. I do what I can to make it enjoyable, or at least not terrible.

Demon dead sounds somewhat dreadful, but you don't seem to look like a demon at all. How does that work? Is being demon-dead different from experiencing the afterlife?

[Sorry, she has a habit of being rather free with her opinion when she's in an interesting conversation.]

[Zelgadis isn't really "in costume" so much as he's wearing his usual hooded cloak and mask that pretty much looks like a costume if you don't know him. He's not even sre why he's here, beyond that he went to the last one with Raven and stuff went down with Saber and now they're both gone and he's running out of ways to depress himself about it.]

That's pretty morbid. Are you a follower of the Dark Lords?

[The cloak and mask makes him look rather mysterious, she thinks. It suits him.] I'm not quite sure what you mean? Death Reapers are no dark force, so much as a force of nature itself.

[Then she laughs.] Although perhaps the idea isn't passed so well when the costumes are all so ill-fitting of it.

[The answer makes him pause a little, mostly because he can't entirely disagree. Dark Lords aren't exactly friends of humanity but it's just the other side of the world at work.]

I guess that's true. [He shrugs.] I'm not much for black magic so I never studied them much.

I've never studied a forbidden magic myself, nor do I intend to. [The words are spoken with some seriousness although her tone is mostly genial.] But pray tell, what guise have you taken this night? You look like a secretive traveler from the South.

[He smiles a little at the description, which is somewhat visible by the way his mask moves over his mouth.]

This is what I always wear. I didn't really plan to come. [But here he is. He shrugs, as if it were entirely incidental that he ended up at the party, perhaps the result of a wrong turn.]

Oh, I understand. I almost did not make it here for that same reason. [She has terrible sense of direction and assumes he means he got lost.]

But even so, it's meant to be a happy occasion, so I am glad you found your way here. Have you tried these little tarts here? They're quite good.

[A half second of blank staring. Nice people confound him so.]

[He finally blinks and picks up a tart. Then, after a moment of hesitation, lowers his mask to take a bite. He tries to be subtle but there's no way she can't see his unusual skin.]
It's not bad.

[It is a good thing that she's met him before during the therapy sessions--although she knows she was a bit too forward then about his skin--because she might have been tempted to ask about it. Her ears twitch, perking up more if possible as she smiles.]

I agree! Most of the treats here have been delightful. Do you know what holiday this is meant to celebrate?

[info]_incurable

Not really. Most of the holidays they celebrate around here are news to me. Back home we had harvest festivals, or the birthday of whoever rules a country, things like that.

[His eyes flick toward her ears because the movement draws his attention but he doesn't comment. Animal-people are pretty common in his world.]

Ah, the harvest days are the best. The leaves changing, fresh pumpkins, painted gourds, and all the meats! Everyone gathering for the wool knitting contest... [Toul sighs a bit dreamily. She misses home just a bit.] A pity I may not make it back in time to see it.

[Then she looks around at the people in their costumes.]

Today is somewhat similar to masquerade balls I have heard of, but there is a...mystical feel to it considering the variety of wear. Maybe they're honoring the supernatural beings of their worlds.

May not? [He sighs. Although it's something like cruel to burst her bubble, he can't abide such delusions.] I hate to tell you this, but getting out of here is impossible. I've tried all the magic I know, and I'm used to breaking dimensional barriers.

Nothing is impossible. [She says it simply and with full belief.] It may not be easier, but even the rustiest lock can be opened with enough time, effort, and some good grease.

[Now onto better topics.] You said you are good at breaking barriers? Have you ever heard of shield magistry?
