[Day 237] FAMILY ISSUES GROUP THERAPY MINGLE
[Anyone brought to this group will find that there are tables set up around the perimeter of the room, one with snacks and drinks, some even with art supplies on them, while the chairs are all pushed into a circle in the middle. There is a projector set up to one side and it flashes images every so often onto the wall. Images of children, adults, the elderly with the young--some of them more formal, posed, others candid as the brief moments of life they were. Some of these images might even be familiar to certain inmates. It shouldn't be hard for them to pick out their own families after all.

In the center of the circle of chairs is a table with a large bowl of treats, wrapped candies of various sorts. Hard candies, caramels, chocolates, taffy. Beside the bowl is a set of cards with instructions written on the back of them.

"Select a card and read the question aloud to the group. Whoever answers the question gets to choose a reward from the bowl and then select the next card. Continue until all of the cards have been viewed or the bowl is empty. More than one person can answer--the first to respond gets to select the next card. If no one volunteers, the card picker gets to select a person."

The cards themselves have a variety of questions and tasks, but they all have a very similar theme.]

1. What does "family" mean to you?
2. Draw a picture of your family and describe it to the group.
3. What is your ideal family unit?
4. Do you have any siblings? If so, what are they like? If not, what would you do if you found out you had one you had never met before?
5. Have you ever done something to hurt or upset a member of your family on purpose?
6. What is the strongest memory you have of your mother and/or father?
7. Imitate one of your parents when reprimanding you.
8. Have you ever felt like an outsider in your family?
9. What is something you have done to a member of your family or they had done to you that took a long time to move beyond (if ever)?
10. Who are you closest to in your family?
11. How many close family members have you lost?

{OOC: Mingle! These questions are not the only ones. Feel free to come up with more. Also the candy in the bowl is spiked just like the pastries and coffee, so the more characters eat...you get the picture.}

[Tear won't deny she belongs here, but she's not thrilled about it either. However, instead of being openly hostile she sits rather impassively, neither involved nor distancing herself, with her mouth drawn in an unfaltering line even when she takes a drink from her cup of tea.

It's provided, so she might as well get something out of all this]

Family are people who share the same bloodline as me. [Comes the text-book like reply to the question asked aloud. With how even it is, one can tell it's honest... but maybe also wonder if there isn't something else to it, too]

Is that all? [Saetan doesn't mean to pry, but the comment is so neutral he can't help but suspect that there is more to it than that and, in turn, wonder just what it might be.]

That's all. [Firm, but not unkindly] There's no one unrelated that I've managed to think of as family.

[There are and were people she cares for, yes, but Legretta was a mentor, an end goal than an archetypal mother figure, and Teodoro was an adoptive grandfather in name only, an oft absent provider. There's the important people she's gained here... but they've been too fleeting for "family".

The only relative she knew is her brother, and their blood was the only connection she had to him. So]

I'm sorry to hear that, although of course its none of my business. But personally I've always found that the family we choose to surround ourselves with can be just as real as those we are related to by blood.

[She silently takes that in. No, it's not his business, but she doesn't feel against continuing this discussion, even with a complete stranger]

How would you choose think of unrelated people as family? Wouldn't they just be... "important"? [As someone for whom most familial connotations are foreign, it's not something she immediately gets]

In some cases, certainly. I suppose it depends on the situation. My daughter has many friends with unhappy home lives who think of me as family because they have no one else. I have a close friend who is like a brother to me, as well. In the end I think we adopt people we care about into our hearts and our families without really realizing it.

[So she might have done so already, but simply not understood they were labeled as "family" in her heart and as according to the criteria she's come to know for the term? That's... an encouraging thought. That she might not be so removed from normalcy as she's feared]

Do you have only a daughter?

Yes, I have two living sons as well, and another in Hell with me. [And two other dead ones who never made it there.] The worst thing they have done to me by bringing me here is taking them away from me. I miss them.

[Excuse you what]

..."In Hell"? [No soul system has ever been confirmed on Auldrant, but of course there are stories... of a glorious land for righteous and an abyss of torment for the wicked. She grew up in what some would consider a "hell", but she knows that much worse could be out there, so]

I'm so very sorry, I suppose I should introduce myself. [After being so recognizable for so long at home its easy to forget that reputation doesn't carry over to here.] My name is Saetan SaDiablo. I'm the High Lord of Hell, among other things.

[She notes he's awfully polite, more than one would consider a "lord of hell" to be, pretty much regardless of where they're from]

And... what does that entail, in your world? Do you rule over metaphysical souls, or beings of flesh?

[Manners are a bit of a sticking point for him, yes.]

Hell is its own separate Realm where the demon-dead reside. You keep your body in the same state you died, more or less, aside from breathing or a pulse or any other signs of life. I do my best to keep Hell a place worth residing in.

[That's because she doesn't, unless heavily prompted to-- or drugged, in this case]

I imagine that there were, a few decades ago. [Being nobility and all] But by the time I was born, it was only my brother and I left. My mother died during my birth.

...Lelouch told me that there are a lot of brothers and sister in your family, Euphemia. [She's not so relaxed yet as to miss shifting tracks from her when possible]

Oh, yes. It might seem like an understatement that way. [She kind of hates to continue with more explanation considering what Tear just said and because canon never gave a number.]

What's your brother's name? [This train might get confused on these tracks as it gets shifted back again.]

...Vandesdelca. He was always simply called Van, though. [No one from Hod uses their full names anymore, really]

Did you get along with many of them? Besides Lelouch, Nunnally, and... Cornelia, was it?

[Rollover probability, increasing]

That's right. Cornelia. And, yes, I'd like to think we all got along, but I suppose I was closer to some than others. I guess you've never met Schneizel or Clovis. [Though Schneizel had been in the prison even if it was ever so briefly.]

[She can't recall a Schneizel, and she kept a fair knowledge of people present in the prison also connected to Lelouch, in her opinion, without becoming nosy. Perhaps a time when she was gone...]

No, I'm afraid not. Older or younger than you?

They're both older. Although Schneizel more so. Clovis was an artist. He was very talented. At least I thought so.

Just that it was his homeland. That it was lost to your country in a war when he was a child and recently struggling for peace, but you were working very hard towards that goal.

Well, it has been a difficult time. [That hardly says it all, but then Tear knows of the massacre at least, right?]
