Day 226 l Christmas Party Mingle
[Ianto has, predictably, gone a bit overboard for the Christmas party he and Jack are throwing. The entire apartment has been decorated; there's a tree with gold and silver ornaments and twinkling lights, garlands draped over doorways, candles in every window and festive nicknacks scattered about. It looks like something out of a magazine, and may make visitors a little afraid to actually touch anything. There's also a lot of mistletoe around (one of the side effects of living with Captain Jack Harkness) so it's probably a good idea to keep one eye on the ceiling at all times.

Of course he's made plenty of coffee and some appetizers, so he hopes people really do respond to the invitation Jack sent out, otherwise there are going to be a hell of a lot of leftovers.]

[ He hadn't given it a lot of thought either, to be honest. Not because he didn't believe he had a future, but rather that he was convinced it wasn't for him — with parents like that, how could he possibly? Add to that his job and his massive social awkwardness and you didn't even need underwater prison to understand that kids were not in his future.

Until Kitty came along and they started brushing up against the subject. ]

For what it's worth... I never thought I wanted them, but with you..? It's... a nice thought. Sometime.

Sometime... [She agrees. It is a nice thought. She wanted a family once even younger than she is now. There was no time to waste there. You never knew when it would be over. Maybe just thinking of bringing a child into that was horrible, but she wanted some piece of that life for herself and Piotr even if it was selfish.

But even saying sometime now feels like a lie. The wardens sterilized her. Even if it's reversible would they really start permitting pregnancies? And what if they disappeared? What if...

It's too much right now and she just shifts closer to him, wanting his warmth in the midst of all this snow and all these doubts.]

[ It is a lot. Too much to think about when they know perfectly well that it'll never happen, and yet he can't keep himself from entertaining the idea. Deceptively sweet and bitter all over, like picking at a scab despite knowing fully well it'll scar badly if you do.

He slips his arm around her shoulders, hugging her to his side but it's not quite enough and so he stops in all this snow and all these doubts, pulling her into a proper embrace. ]
