day 225 | xiii ❧ potluck mingle!

[ this is her first time doing one of these without gran, and something she thought was going to be difficult for those very reasons is actually rather therapeutic, heartwarming -- a glance back at her roots, back when she was just adele stackhouse's weird granddaughter and not that fae who mingles with vampires. sookie contributes a few dishes from her gran's old recipes, along with something lafayette taught her to make. she's got all the tables in this part of trois park covered with checkered table clothes of varying colors, lots of plastic silverware, paper plates, cups, and napkins at the ready, and a stack of picnic blankets folded up on one of the benches for those who wish to sit on the grass instead of at a table. sookie even brought a long a mesh bag full of sports equipment -- or rather, a couple frisbees, a football, soccer ball, basketball, and even some hacky sacks. (she's not the sports type, but jason would always be off playing something with the other guys.)

hopefully she didn't leave anything out. hopefully this will help cheer everyone up some, both the new arrivals and those still dealing with the days they spent in that other prison. ]

I'll think about it. [He's heard the name tossed around a few times, and while he was technically part of a team back home, he's also suspicious of law enforcement. It kind of comes with being a former thief.]

Then fun it is! You up for a game of soccer? I think I saw a couple of balls around here...

Sure.

Though, hey... easy on the superspeed, okay?

[He makes a cross over his heart.] But of course! We can't all be running at 75 miles per hour over here, right?

I've gotta save food for everyone else too.

[She laughed.] Running fast makes you hungry, huh?

It's a side-effect of my powers. Run really fast, but also eat enough food for a whole army in one meal's sitting. [He looks apologetic, at least!]

Like that entire buffet table? My nephew and I could demolish that, just between the two of us.

Oh... [She nodded.] That makes sense. Do you get tired at all?

For me, my main issue when I phase is breathing.

Only when I'm going at more than half capacity. [Headtilt.] I usually don't go more than 50 miles per hour here, so I'm usually okay.

... Wait, do you forget to breathe when you're intangible?

Well, that's good.

[She shook her head then.]

Not forget, but sometimes I have to hold my breath, depending on what it is I'm phasing through.

[yay for inconsistent canon info]

[Gotta love how they flip-flop on those important things!] Oh.

So you can phase through almost anything, right? [He never did get the full description - or if he did, he forgot.]

Almost. There are a few things here that I can't, and probably some stuff that's dense enough back home that I can't. The less dense a material is, the easier it is to get through.

[He nods thoughtfully.] Makes sense. I never thought about it that way. Mainly 'cause I didn't have to.

[She thought for a moment about it, too.]

I wonder if I could phase fast enough to keep up with your running. Could you imagine how awesome that would be?

Can you carry people when you run? Because I can phase anyone that I'm touching through objects with me.

That'd be awesome! Man, I can't believe I didn't think about that.

It depends on how heavy they are. I can carry most people, but it'd be hard to lift someone that's bigger than me. [Plus there's the risk of them throwing up... not exactly ideal potluck discussion.]

Well, yeah. Most people have trouble lifting things that are bigger than them unless there's like a dire situation or something.

[She chuckled.]

But it would be interesting to try out sometime.

[Provided they don't actually crash into the wall.]

We should! Maybe another day? In the meantime... [He grins, lightly bouncing the soccer ball on his knees.] Winner gets to make the loser eat anything he - or she - wants?

[It's only Sookie's potluck, so there's nothing that unappetizing there, but it's his usual bet wager.]

Alright. You're on. [She'd probably lose anyway, but it would be fun, and some of the traditional Louisiana food might be kind of spicy, but she could handle it.]
