day 225 | xiii ❧ potluck mingle!

[ this is her first time doing one of these without gran, and something she thought was going to be difficult for those very reasons is actually rather therapeutic, heartwarming -- a glance back at her roots, back when she was just adele stackhouse's weird granddaughter and not that fae who mingles with vampires. sookie contributes a few dishes from her gran's old recipes, along with something lafayette taught her to make. she's got all the tables in this part of trois park covered with checkered table clothes of varying colors, lots of plastic silverware, paper plates, cups, and napkins at the ready, and a stack of picnic blankets folded up on one of the benches for those who wish to sit on the grass instead of at a table. sookie even brought a long a mesh bag full of sports equipment -- or rather, a couple frisbees, a football, soccer ball, basketball, and even some hacky sacks. (she's not the sports type, but jason would always be off playing something with the other guys.)

hopefully she didn't leave anything out. hopefully this will help cheer everyone up some, both the new arrivals and those still dealing with the days they spent in that other prison. ]

[Richie wouldn't hold it again, seeing as he's not the cleanest eater himself. He and fully loaded chili dogs have a very deep, loving relationship.]

Cool, so how about trying another genre this time? If you've never seen kung fu movies before I'm betting there are plenty of others you haven't seen yet.

[ Bak blinked and his dip fell right off his chip ] There are more movies? [ he sounds flabbergasted for only one very specific reason. ] How do you get anything done!

[Oh man, Richie is trying so hard not to laugh in Bak's face, but that is the most hilarious response he's ever gotten. He smiles widely still and manages not to snicker.]

It's called mastering the secret art of multi-tasking. Doing all the things you can at the same time conserves time while you're at it.

[ good thing he's still flabbergasted. he would take royal offense! ]

But what's the point of doing something if you aren't going to put your full attention into it? That defies reason.

[ unless, of course, you know. That's why man invented code to do all the work for them. ]

[A very good thing.]

You don't need to give your full attention to everything to do it. You can read and eat at the same time, right? It's all about knowing what things you can focus on at once and what things you can't. Movies are easy. You can put them on in the background and work on a lot of things.

[ Bak shook his head in disbelief ]

Reading and eating are two entirely different things. The kind of work I do requires a much greater attention to detail. [ although, Richie may have a point. If he can manage to not screw up his work with Fou around, why can't he have a movie playing in the background? Explosions are nothing compared to her flying kicks! ]

Well, then don't watch movies while you're doing the sensitive stuff that you have to give 100% to if you think you can't handle it. Like I said, it's about knowing when you can and when you can't. [He shrugs and takes another quick bite off his plate.] But c'mon, I'm sure everything you do doesn't need you to stare at it every second.

[ Bak shoved his chip into his mouth and chewed, frustrated but not yet outdone. After a moment, he swallowed and then gestured with a fresh trip free of dip. It was safer that way. ]

Yes, but I thought the point of a movie is to watch it and if you're not going to watch it, why bother having it on in the background at all?

[ he shook his head ]

It doesn't make any sense!

[Why is this guy so determined to be right about this? It's not even a big deal.]

Most movies you don't have to watch nonstop to avoid missing important things, man. You'll hear cues and know to go back to watching or you can keep on with what you're doing. It's not that different from radio, only with pictures and silent scenes you have to watch for.

[ he pondered this, half munching on a slice of watermelon until he cracked a tooth on a seed. And then he promptly spit (the seed) out. ]

I see. So you're suggesting I watch something I have no intention of watching for the simple sake of watching it.

[ ... yeah sure, that made perfect sense. Changing the subject. ] It's a good day for a picnic at least. [ excellent for company morale, etc. etc. ]

[Richi shakes his head but lets it go.] Whatever you say man. Most of the days here are good for picnics. Not like it rains too much or snows.

[ he sighed ]

A picnic is just lunch unless you have the company to match it. It's common sense.

[ and then he stabbed a watermelon, staring at it curiously before sticking it into his mouth. Delicious~ ]

[ he simply shoved another piece of watermelon into his mouth, crunching his way through a seed. ]

Don't speak nonsense. [ as if Bak could date ] I'm here [ to improve his social skills ] talking to you, aren't I?

[ no offense to Richie. He actually finds you one of the more intelligent men in the dome, even if they may have gotten off on the wrong foot. Or several feet. ]
