day 225 | xiii ❧ potluck mingle!

[ this is her first time doing one of these without gran, and something she thought was going to be difficult for those very reasons is actually rather therapeutic, heartwarming -- a glance back at her roots, back when she was just adele stackhouse's weird granddaughter and not that fae who mingles with vampires. sookie contributes a few dishes from her gran's old recipes, along with something lafayette taught her to make. she's got all the tables in this part of trois park covered with checkered table clothes of varying colors, lots of plastic silverware, paper plates, cups, and napkins at the ready, and a stack of picnic blankets folded up on one of the benches for those who wish to sit on the grass instead of at a table. sookie even brought a long a mesh bag full of sports equipment -- or rather, a couple frisbees, a football, soccer ball, basketball, and even some hacky sacks. (she's not the sports type, but jason would always be off playing something with the other guys.)

hopefully she didn't leave anything out. hopefully this will help cheer everyone up some, both the new arrivals and those still dealing with the days they spent in that other prison. ]

I hadn't eaten it yet and it seemed a shame to let it go to waste.

[She can understand that position. She hates wasting food. It's why she used to asked Bak and Komui to come home when she cooked.]

Well, we can never have too many desserts for an occasion such a this, can we? They get eaten up so quickly. Would you like some rostbratwurst?

Sure. I'd love some. [Not that she actually needs to eat human food at all, but it's good to pretend.]

[She smiles and grabs a plate to put a few of the little bratwursts on a stick onto.]

They taste perfect with sauerkraut, but I think barbecue sauce wouldn't be so bad either? [She reminds herself sometimes that not everyone enjoys sauerkraut as much as she does.]

Sauerkraut should be fine. [Rebekah honestly doesn't have much of a preference.]

You like it too? What a pleasant surprise! [And then she blushes just a bit, realizing how pushy that might sound.] Ah--not surprising I mean, I do think there are plenty of other people who like sauerkraut, but I-I just meant I didn't expect to run into someone who liked it so easily...hence why I included the barbecue sauce. Heh. I'm sorry.

[Why is meeting new people so hard sometimes?]

[She can't help but smirk a little. Poor thing, so easily flustered.]

I suppose it's an acquired taste, isn't it?

[Flustered could be her middle name.] Ah, well I wouldn't think so, but it's a very common dish in my hometown, so it could just be I grew accustomed to it before I ever realized it.

[But she still makes her a plate of the rostbratwurst and the sauerkraut and holds it out for her. She almost asks her to pardon the slightly burnt edges, but that's a little too embarrassing even for her.]

I spent a lot of times in various parts of Europe over the years, I suppose that helped. [She takes the plate, offering a smile in return.]

You're quite timid, aren't you?

[Miranda is a bit surprised by the question and it causes her cheeks to flush in embarrassment.]

Ah--Well--I'm--I mean...it's something I'm working on, yes. [It's just harder with strangers.]

I suppose effort is something, at least.

[Miranda's smile is a bit more strained and she sets her hands on table so she won't give in to the urge to wring them.] I apologize if it's annoying to you. I think th-the only way to put it to rights is to get used to things. If I'm bothering you, I can leave you to your food.

You're not bothering me. If you were, I'd be making that very clear.

[But she might be purpsefully trying to make the girl nervous, Rebekah isn't always a good person.]

[It's working very well. Miranda laughs nervously again.] Ah, well, it's good then. That I'm not bothering you I mean--um--would you like some wurst?

[Anything to change the subject so she can stop making a fool of herself.]
