As paltry a thing as life. [ he looks up, as if through the ceiling to stare at the wall of the dome, and his lips quirk into a smile. ] Though I would prefer to be in control of my own death, if possible. [ when it becomes inevitable, he wants to foil inevitability in the final way possible— to see that he can at least die on his own terms, before his body betrays him or hands wrap around his throat or water gushes into his lungs. ]

[ He can respect that. For someone who treats death so lightly, he sure spends a lot of time avoiding it. Perhaps more so before, with Dru and even earlier with his mother. He didn't want her to be poorly. He didn't want her to wither away and die, helpless and weak and at the mercy of the world. ]

I'm sure that can be arranged. How would you want it done? [ Not that he could help, but it's the thought that counts, right? ]

If not, a knife cuts quickly. One needs only a nick to the neck, after all.

Calculatin' lit'le thing... [ It's said with something close to friendly fondness. Not sugary sweet by any measure, but certainly a comment driven by appreciation and some sort of camaraderie. Not a whole lot of sick little puppies in this fish bowl, you have to enjoy the ones you have. ]

As for me, I'm happy as long as I go down fighting. I could get a stake to the chest any day, might as well make the ride worth it.

I am not a warrior by trade, but I would not oppose a death in battle— against a worthy opponent, mind you. [ he has very specific death requirements. too bad none of them were actually set to be fulfilled. ]

Now, who is it that seeks to put a stake in your chest? [ consider him curious, and possibly willing to give them a hard time if they're around. ]
