Day 219 [video-->Action] Merlotte's Mingle - Open to All!
[What better way to kick off a mingle than to broadcast the invitation to the entire dome?]

Hey ya'll. I know it's kinda outta place t'say Welcome to Marina cause no one really wants t'be here, but it ain't all bad. In any case, I've got a bar an grill here in Sector 4 called Merlotte's, figure th' new arrivals may want to come on down and have a drink or two after a trip like that.

Anyone's welcome of course, we're open from mornin' to night. Come on in an' have a bite to eat or somethin' to ease your troubles.

((ooc: This is an open mingle. Feel free to thread everywhere with anyone. As always, before threadjacking make sure it's okay by the player but otherwise have fun! Sam is available to chat with either by Video or in person and his thread is right Here. There is a full menu of down-home diner/grill sort of foods, so hamburgers, french fries, salads, soups, breakfast items or whatever other comfort food you can think of and a few other things from other worlds. There is a full bar, wine, liquor, beer and even blood or synthetic blood. He also has a pool table and there's plenty of room in booths or tables to play cards or whatever else.))

[There're a few strange scents lingering on this woman as he approached. He could tell she'd been injured but there was something... else he didn't recognize. He'd learned about the Abnormals through Tessla, but he hadn't had the chance to meet one in person to recognize the scent.

He doesn't show it though, choosing to play it casual as if he were simply human and nothing more. Unless of course she knew him too or could sense what he is.
]

Evenin' Cher. Can I get ya anthin'? [His eyes roam over her face and follow her neck and she may get the wrong impression if she watches him close enough. Totally not checking out your chest...(much) but he's aware of those cuts! His eyes do snap up to her gaze quick enough though. He is, after all, a gentleman.]

[ she is, for better or worse, entirely human. she's just got a slightly different genetic code. even so, she can't tell that anyone's different at all, nor would she assume anyone is or isn't human.

so she just smiles at the man, ignoring his obvious glance over her. she's used to it, especially with nikola. ]

What do you have in the way of soup?

[ because she's hungry. and curious. ]

[ she considers for a moment. ] Think I'll go with the special. [ a pause in which she offers him a small but genuine smile. ] Is this your establishment or are you just the friendly face working here?

[ blame being dragged here with nikola. she's not as familiar with her surroundings as she would have liked. ]

Good choice.

[A proud smile.] She's all mine. Took me a bit to fix'er up like how she looked back home. Ain't exactly the same but it's good enough by me.

You've done a fine job with her. She looks wonderful and I can see she's well liked by many. I look forward to becoming acquainted. [ with her and the man who runs her. ]

I would imagine it also helps pass the time.

[ she takes the hand with a smile, her grip firm. ]

Helen Magnus. It's a pleasure.

It definitely does. Helps t'relax me if you'll believe it.

[Shaking firm but friendly.]

Likewise.

Oh absolutely. I'm rather fond of keeping myself occupied. Finding myself with too much time and not enough to fill it usually isn't the highlight of my day. I've often found myself in the minority on that.

Sorry to say I think that's kinda a hard thing t'do here. Keep busy that is.

If yer willin' t'work for free though I kin always give ya a job should it come down to it.

Well, that's unfortunate. [ it really is. ]

I had an idea of something to keep myself occupied with, but I'm not entirely certain how welcome it might be. If it doesn't get up off the ground, I would happily take your offer. At least I know I would be in good company working here. [ she offers him a warm smile at that. ]

Ah, I'm sure you'll find somethin' t'do one way or the other. [It's just a matter of how long that something would last until it gets boring.]

We can always use the help. An' if all else fails there's comin' here t'forget your troubles. Not that I'm encouragin' alcoholism.

[But really, what better time to become an alcoholic then when you're bored out of your mind?]

[ she gives him a gentle laugh at that. ]

No, one of my colleagues is the one you'd have to worry about that from and he's more than capable of holding his liquor. You'd only have to worry about me if I had too much tea and I doubt that's possible at all.

[A small chuckle to follow.]

Afraid I wouldn't know, aside from a good southern home brewed sweet tea, I mostly drink Coffee.

Who's your friend?

It's certainly been a long time since I had that sort of tea, but I can't say I'm much of a coffee-drinker. I tend to avoid being near it if I can, though the last few decades have made that a bit difficult. My staff at home likes it far more than I do.

[ she pauses at the question, though, debating how much to say. ]

A colleague with whom I went through much of my higher education. He isn't here at the moment. [ this is actually a flat-out lie, but she's not giving any indication that it is. ] While he does prefer good wine, I assure you he knows his limit.

[ nikola is no drunkard, after all. ]

[Course that does raise the question of why she would suggest he'd have to watch for a colleague that wasn't in the dome. He lets it slide though, even if it DOES sound like someone he's met that apparently also knows him.]

Wine huh? I feel like we've been gettin' more an' more inmates that prefer wine. I've got a few bottles here, but we ain't exactly a fancy restaurant. I'll have t'look inta gettin' more.

Anyway, I'll uh, I'll go get your soup. It's nice meetin' ya Helen.

[ she never said he wasn't in the dome. he's just not in their direct vicinity at the moment. in fact he's likely wandering around casually somewhere outside her line of sight in any direction. ]

That might be a good idea.

[ she smiles anyway and gives him a nod. ]

Thank you. It's been a pleasure.
