Day 219 [video-->Action] Merlotte's Mingle - Open to All!
[What better way to kick off a mingle than to broadcast the invitation to the entire dome?]

Hey ya'll. I know it's kinda outta place t'say Welcome to Marina cause no one really wants t'be here, but it ain't all bad. In any case, I've got a bar an grill here in Sector 4 called Merlotte's, figure th' new arrivals may want to come on down and have a drink or two after a trip like that.

Anyone's welcome of course, we're open from mornin' to night. Come on in an' have a bite to eat or somethin' to ease your troubles.

((ooc: This is an open mingle. Feel free to thread everywhere with anyone. As always, before threadjacking make sure it's okay by the player but otherwise have fun! Sam is available to chat with either by Video or in person and his thread is right Here. There is a full menu of down-home diner/grill sort of foods, so hamburgers, french fries, salads, soups, breakfast items or whatever other comfort food you can think of and a few other things from other worlds. There is a full bar, wine, liquor, beer and even blood or synthetic blood. He also has a pool table and there's plenty of room in booths or tables to play cards or whatever else.))

[If there's anything Rebekah needs, it's alcohol right now. She's not really feeling social at the moment though so she's sitting off to a corner of the bar at a table by herself, working on a bottle of scotch, slowly but surely.

She's not seeking out people but people are certainly free to seek out here.

[ He's working tonight in an attempt to shake his own sullen mood and a round of table-clearing brings him to her corner of solitude. He sets the tray with glasses down on a neighboring table to address her. ]

Hey... Rebekah, right? You okay?

Well enough, I suppose.

[ helen isn't normally the therapist type. she doesn't do heartfelt talks mostly because they inevitably turn back on her and she doesn't want to pry into someone else's life when she hardly wants to talk about her own innermost feelings. either way, when she walks into the bar again and spots the young woman haha sitting by herself, she can't help but feel a certain understanding. normally, she would leave the poor woman to herself, but something tugs at her. perhaps it's the bottle on the table. she pauses for just a moment longer before ordering a bottle of a nice cabernet sauvignon for variety. clad in a suit that only hides the large gashes on her arms that have been bandaged for only a few hours and were bleeding quite badly before then and sporting various small cuts and scrapes from broken glass across her cheeks, neck, and collarbone area, helen moves towards the occupied table. ]

Is this seat taken? [ she asks it very nicely as she indicates the empty chair nearby and if given any indication that the young woman wants to be left alone, helen will be more than willing to leave her in peace. ]

[It's been a long few days. First she had had her emotions on overdrive that one day, then she lost Quinn, and then a couple of days later she lost both her brothers. It's not something she's handling well (especially not the small part of her that's glad they're gone). She's not really expecting company but she's not exactly opposed to it either (she's lonely, honestly).

She looks up at the voice. The woman looks almost as bad as she feels. It's comforting, almost. She shakes her head a little.
]

Not at all.

[ the bottle is set on the table as helen slides into the empty seat and her first glass is poured expertly. ]

Bit exciting for my first day. [ it's said with the air of someone commenting on a first day at school or work. ] Wasn't quite expecting so many people.

[ she's aiming mostly for friendly conversation, but if she comes across information she hasn't already heard or figured out, the more the better. either way, this young woman appears as though she could use a distraction. perhaps they both could. ]

You're new. I'd say welcome but it's prison, it doesn't feel quite the right sentiment. [Not that it feels much like a prison at all, most of the time.]

Merlotte's is a rather popular place. It probably helps that Sam is rather friendly. [Even if she did meet him in an anger management group.]

All the same, the idea is appreciated. [ and really, it is. ]

I can see why it would be. I wouldn't mind spending a little time here myself. [ she takes another sip and then shifts to offer a hand. ] Either way, my manners seem to be a bit lacking these days. Dr. Helen Magnus.

I'm glad.

It's a nice place. There aren't too many options here, but both here and the Blood Shack can be rather enjoyable. [The ones she frequents the most, anyways.]

Rebekah Mikealson. [She takes the woman's hand, shaking it.]

[ she keeps her expression impassive at the sound of the "blood shack," though she's extremely interested in it. so that's where he's getting it. ] In that case, I'll have to come here more often, particularly if the company is this enjoyable. [ she gives rebekah a genuine smile. she's not minding the company at all so far. ]

It's a pleasure to meet you, Rebekah. [ that's more or less permission for rebekah to call her by her first name. ] I would say I wish it were under better circumstances, but all things considered, it could be a lot worse.

Well, I come here not infrequently so at least it would give us a chance to run into one another again. [She replies, returning the smile with one of her own.]

I agree, Helen. All things considered, it could be worse. [Does she sound convincing? She's trying to. It's been a rough few days, the words feel a little fake on her tongue at the moment.]

I would certainly like that. Perhaps next time we meet, I won't be sporting a healthy coat of red. [ she means the little cuts and bruises scattered around her face and neck.

whether or not helen believes rebekah, her eyes take on a distant look for a moment. it's brief, just as brief as the intense gaze she gives the young woman for a split second before she looks away and takes a sip of her wine. she knows how much worse it could be. they could be under the dictatorship of a bunch of tyrants, people who would rather shoot than ask questions. people like addison or, worse, nazi colonel korba. helen wouldn't put it past anyone to pull something like that, but she'll hope for the best. ]

For instance-- [ and here she pauses, letting her glass lower so she can offer a gentle and genuinely accepting and friendly expression. ] --in another place, we might never have met.

[ she's someone who believes firmly that every meeting has meaning. everything can lead to something else and be useful. helen herself might have difficulty truly making friends these days, as she knows full well that she will most likely outlive them all, but she understands the importance of connections... and if a friendship comes of those, so be it. she'll deal with the repercussions later. ]

One can only hope. Have you checked out the hospitals here? I hear they are quite good at healing people quickly. [Of course her only experience was her own brother going there after she herself stabbed him...but you know, details.

Rebekah's been in worse situations. She's been taken prisoner before, she's been daggered and stuffed into a coffin for ninety years, things can always be worse.

The next part makes Rebekah pause a little.
]

That's a better way to look at things, I suppose.

[Not one she's adapted herself. She's been moping about Quinn being gone but perhaps she should be grateful she got to meet her at all, really.]

[ she hasn't, if only because she trusts her doctoring abilities far more than she trusts a robot or ai. in all honesty, she trusts nikola's doctoring ability more than a robot or ai, as well, and he's the one who patched up her face. ]

I was actually hoping to look into setting up a clinic for those less inclined to trust a robot's capabilities. [ it's said amiably, in a way that may or may not suggest that she's one of those people. ] I'm a doctor, myself, and if I can use what I've spent my life learning, why not at least try?

[ whether or not this meeting turns into something other than decent conversation and a good respite from Helen's first day remains to be seen. regardless, she isn't minding spending her time like this. at least for now. ]

It's a smart idea. I'm sure there are many who would rather put their care into the hands of one of our fellow prisoners than our wardens.

[ The care of a robot is far from comforting, not that Rebekah has needed to be on the receiving end of it yet.]

This place can get boring at times anyways, you might as well find productive ways to use your time.
