[The Sizzle 'n' Sear in Sector 2 was decorated for a Grand Reopening with strings of small white lights on the trees outside and candles with fresh flowers on every table. The new paint was done, lightening up the interior a bit more from the darker colors it had been originally. Piper hadn't been a fan. Night clubs were dark, restaurants needed to be lighter, in her mind, and the dark wood was enough contrast.

The menu was finally finished to Piper's liking, and she had done the place up extra special for the evening. Having sent out flyers a few days ago, she was a little nervous that things wouldn't work out perfectly, but she was maintaining her outward calm.]

{OOC: Mingle style post! I've made a thread if anyone wants to catch Piper specifically, but feel free to tag around and enjoy each other's company!}

[Since Buffy doesn't cook, she's a fan of restaurants. She's here to check out new options, mingle with friends and get dinner. She can be found doing all of these things. Feel free to stop her and say hi.]

[While Rose has heard of Buffy via Spike and Sam, she has never met the girl. She knows that she is a slayer and while she wouldn't give her a reason to stake her, Rose would still be careful around her. She didn't require food to sustain her but it didn't stop Rose from checking out the place because she was curious; she'll probably just order a few drinks and that would be it.

Of course, when Rose was thinking about this she wasn't looking where she was going as she almost collided with Buffy.
]

Sorry! [She says apologetically, taking a step back from her.]

[Buffy doesn't know about Rose. She knows that Spike is seeing someone, but that's the extent of her prior knowledge.

When Rose nearly collided with Buffy, she took a step back, using some of those slayer reflexes to save the half full glass of wine she's got.]

It's okay. I tend to be collide-y too. WIth people mostly. Sometimes objects.

Surefire way to get bruises, right? [She laughs a little, noticing how quick Buffy was to prevent her wine from spilling. Rose doesn't draw attention to it, but she keeps it in mind anyway.]

I'm normally not clumsy but I was lost in my thoughts and I suppose it interfered with my steps. Hm. I think that sounded better in my head.

Good thing I'm not a bruise easy kind of girl. [For many reasons.]

Oh, it's okay. It sounds entirely plausible out loud too. Sometimes I get lost in my head and it interferes with my steps too.

Then I guess we have that in common, don't we?

[She looks a little amused, her mood light.]

This place is rather nice, isn't it? I thought I'd stop by and check it out, see what was on offer. I'm Rose by the way.

Yeah and I like the whole prisoners taking over thing, even if it's sort of...minimal.
[She smiles in return]

I'm Buffy.

It's nice to see them run things for themselves.

[So this was who Spike told her about and Sam's lady friend. Cue an internal panic.]

Buffy. [A pause.] That's an unusual name. Which is probably something you hear all of the time, yeah?

And also, sticking it to the man. Or something like that. In whatever capacity we can.

[She's not sure she wants to know what Spike said about her.]

Yeah. Your version of it is more polite though.

Do I even want to know what other people have said?

[Nothing bad. Rose just didn't want to get staked.]

Although admittedly, now I am a little curious about it.

Oh, you know: 'No really, what's your name?' 'What's that short for?' 'That's a weird name' 'What was your mom on when she named you' or the best one yet, 'We used to have a dog named that!'

[She doesn't stake lightly these days and not here, but she might make an exception for Spike on any given day.]

Got it. [Rose was lucky enough to not have those kind of questions asked off her, but she never gave her second name. her first was enough.]

So, tell me. How long have you been in this place? In addition to that, what do you make of it?

A year and a few months. [It was a really long time when she thought of it that way.]

I think we're being taken out of the game. For whatever reason, whatever it is that the guys running this are doing, they need us out of the picture.

How about you?

Not as long as you, just a few months. [Over a year. Rose could only imagine being here that long.]

It's not as bad as I thought it would be and I have a few friends here which has been a blessing.

What makes you think the robots in charge are doing that?

Sort of my thoughts on being here.

[Buffy hesitates and then shakes her head.] No. I mean...I think who ever is in charge of the robots are responsible for doing that. Robots are just prison automation.

[She makes a thoughtful noise at that, considering.]

It makes sense that they were created by someone else and put in place here to run the prison. Have you brought your concerns to anyone else?

Sort of? I mean I've talked about it to the defense force, but it's kind of a common theory? Apparently at one time there were these guys called Engineers and they built the AI's and then the AIs took over. Very Terminator of them. This is why you have to know what your kids are watching when you're not around.

It's the first I've heard of it but then I never really asked much about the AIs or where they came from until now.

Terminator, right. Not a film I've seen but I get your meaning. I don't know if there's much the defense force could do about super intelligent robots that watch our every move and dole out punishments like candy.

If we could disable their shielding, maybe, but then we have to consider if they'd make more.

You may need someone with technical know how for that kind of task. I think they would make more to protect themselves.

We don't seem to have a shortage of those people here. Surprisingly.

[She nods a little.] I think they would too. The question is how fast?

Scarily fast I'd wager. These bots rarely miss a trick and they seem to be everywhere.

There may be nothing we can do.
