Sex has very little to do with the emotions he's discovering. He was quite capable of having sex with Sookie regardless of his feelings for her. However, he will never admit that he didn't start having casual sex back home until Sookie broke up with him. He was loyal to her long before they ever entered anything like a relationship. In short, Eric knows that emotions for someone, unrequited or otherwise, can complicate future relationships. He doesn't understand it, but he knows it.]
