KARAOKE NIGHT AT THE SHACK

[ The drinks are flowing at the Blook Shack (BLOOD FREE, OKAY?), the bass is pumping with cheesy karaoke songs. Come on in, mingle, drink, and sing a song, any song. And ladiessss it's your perfect chance to ask your dates to the Sadie Hawkins dance! Start a thread and comment here with what song your character is singing for the competition to get a prize!]

2004. You?

2010. Seem to be a lot of us here from the early 21st century. Which I guess isn’t that strange, since they seem to have based most of the architecture and facilities on that period.

You were in a plane crash in 2004 and actually got stranded somewhere?

Whatever you say, boss. Me, I figure time travel's the least of my worries. Never did catch your name, by the way.

Yeah, this island. Long story.

[Dryly, amused.] You never asked. Jack Harkness.

[He turns slightly, leaning an elbow on the bar.] Tell me about this island? I'm intrigued as to how you could actually get stuck somewhere unknown in 2004! How long were you there?

[A short, dark laugh and another drink.] Jack. Right. 'Course it is. Sawyer.

What, you wanna start with the Others or the Smoke monster? Polar bears are always good, too. Gettin' close to a hundred days now and I still ain't figured half of it out.

[He has no idea why his name is such a cause for bitter amusement, so he just raises his eyebrows at the laugh and concentrates on the rest of it.]

That sounds... really odd. Well, unless that sort of thing's normal in your reality?

[There are people here from all sorts of different worlds, after all.]

No, it ain't. But hey, 'least I'm here now. Never thought I'd be glad to be in prison.

Yeah, have to say, best prison I've ever been in. Which is probably good, since it's the least escapable so far, too.

Who said anything 'bout escapin'? Cozy digs, halfway decent bars, interestin' people. Why'd I wanna go anywhere else?

Nothing to want to get back home for? No-one?

[Kate. And Hurley and Jin and Sun and even Jack and hell, everybody else on that damn island who he'd never say were his friends, at least not out loud.] Nope.

[He can see that there's more to it than that, but who is he to push someone for personal details?]

How about if you could go back home, rather to that island?

[Now that's genuinely funny. Anyway, what's he got to go back to? Crap motels, stealin' money and the dark shadow he's got hangin' over him now from knowing he killed the wrong man in Sydney. The Island might suck, but it ain't no worse than real life.]

Nope. Don't really do family ties. What about you, cowboy?

[Well, fancy that, they do have something in common, after all.]

Nah, I can't go home either. Nothing to go back to, in either of the places I've called home.

I'd still like to get out of here, though. Prefer my freedom, you know?

[Though how much longer will it take? he wonders. How much longer spent here with Ianto before he really doesn't want to go home if it would mean losing that?]

Well how 'bout that.

[Frankly Sawyer's not really one to listen to other peoples' sob stories, any more than he likes sharing his own. Everybody in this world is some sort of mess, after all. Still, nice to know he ain't the only one not itchin' to get back to somethin'.]

Suit yourself, amigo. Me, I'm practical. Seems to me we're stuck here, unless someone wants to try'n swim for it, so why worry?

We'd have to get through the glass first, before we could swim for it.

[Because yes, he has actually contemplated the idea. He figures if he could just get out he could get free. He might die (horribly, from drowning and water pressure) but he reckons he'd still float to the surface eventually.]

Still, yeah. May as well make the most of the free holiday in the meantime, eh? [And he tips his glass against Sawyer's in a toast to that.]

((OOC: Actually, I think we can leave this one here too, can't we?))
