[ kol's tempted to slam his palm on the countertop and roar another! but he merely refrains, asking the bartender to grab his sister another drink before she thinks of ordering one for herself. ]

[ his brows furrow. these names don't quite match the very few faces he knows that come from mystic falls. kol doesn't particularly care about them, anyway. his sights are set on the mutterings of an alaric saltzman, and until he has confirmation that idiot's in the swimming pool, all the others, even that of his future best friend damon salvatore, are irrelevant to him. ] Who?

[ even if rebekah thinks he's playing, there's a small hope that she finds some amusement in him playing the part of being indifferent. ]

Huh. [ he remembers her as the girl from the bar and nothing else; while kol enjoys tormenting niklaus on all of his failures and social retardation, he doesn't make an effort to remember these things. they have nothing to do with him. ] I'm sure Niklaus is delighted. Not that I particularly care.

[ shifting on his stool to properly face rebekah. placing his elbow on the countertop and his cheek in his open palm, he looks at her pleadingly. he whines. ] This conversation is boring, Rebekah. Where's the gossip? Who, other than this Caroline, must we hate?

[ and who, as a result, can he kill? ]

[ he might do it for his own selfish reasons of wanting to talk about anything but niklaus; his entire existence revolves around his resentment at his older brother. in actuality, he does it for rebekah; he's sure she's not particularly fond of talking about someone she doesn't like. besides, it's a waste of a conversation with her favourite brother. ]

[ also he should be commended for not using a mean girls reference ~~yet~~. ]

I haven't bothered to ask his opinion on the subject. [Because she doesn't frankly care that much, really, though it can be fun to watch Caroline shut their brother down from time to them.

Though she rolls her eyes at the whine, the affectionate smile on her lip betrays her. She's missed Kol, and while having her brothers here does mess with the life she had begun establishing for herself (her own life, on her own terms, it's not something she's eager to give up) she'd be lying if she said she wasn't happy he was here.]

Believe it or not, but I haven't been going around adding to the enemies list much here. At least not yet.

[Mostly because while Rebekah enjoys the hunt, enjoys the kill, more than anything she just wants to feel like she belongs. She wants to experience all the things she never got to before.

It'd be hard to do if she was going around ripping heads off.]

Perhaps I will have to pick up on the slack. [ yeah, not a good idea. this is why no one ever puts kol in charge. while he doesn't bother to muse over this, as he's merely teasing, he continues to grin, though. hanging out with rebekah, even if it's in a dingy little bar with music being sung around them by people he's sure she'll want to befriend, it's something enjoyable. kol, much like rebekah, wishes to belong, but he yearns for his inclusion to be with his siblings. ]

[ he leans in closer, as if trying to read her face. ] Do you honestly enjoy being stuck in a place like this, Rebekah? It's awfully unlike you to not attempt to make at least one person dislike you. [ he means it as a compliment, as he's always admired rebekah's desire to simply be better than everyone in her general vicinity and ensuring that they know it. it's why new orleans had been fun. ]

And that I am sure you'll do wonderfully. [Which is her own version of a compliment, really. If there's anyone who can make a statement and really give people reasons not like him, it's Kol. He's never particularly cared what other people thought of him, it's something she's always quite admired.]

It's not a matter of liking this place. [But the thing is she does like it. She likes that Nik doesn't have the daggers here, that's been able to establish a life, friends even, the sort of things she never got to have much of in her whole a thousand years of existence.]

When I first arrived here, I was alone. I thought Niklaus was dead -- it had been to my favor at the time not to create enemies.

[ it's no secret to him that rebekah yearns for something other than this life. it upsets him that this gift they've been given isn't enough for her. while he occasionally takes it personally, it causes him grief at the thought that his sister isn't happy with herself. kol is not the fixer in the family, as this role is strictly designated to elijah, while he is the main cause of destruction for almost everything and anything; it's the moments of vulnerability that rebekah allows herself to have that cause him to yearn for the moments of his childhood where he wished to fix everything. he still does, but he's not quite sure how to paste the pieces together. so, instead, he wrecks it. being a vampire allows him to rip things apart in an incredibly exaggerated - and literal - manner. ]

And now? [ there's a pause before he shrugs his shoulders, pulling away slightly to sit straighter on his stool. ] Niklaus is here, unsurprisingly crashing the party, and so am I. Is it still something you wish for?

[It's still something she wants now, though she's not sure she could have it. Though she is grateful to find out Niklaus isn't actually dead there's a selfish part of her that wishes he had never shown up here in the first place -- that she could continue with the life had begun to build for herself here.

She looks away from her brother for a moment, instead choosing to stare down at her glass. It's not something she talks about often with her brothers, considering their usual reactions, but she doesn't plan on lying either.

So she then nods.]

It is. Even with the two of you here, that hasn't changed. [But the ability to have it possibly has, the fact that Niklaus has definitely compelled Quinn only delivers that idea even closer to home.]

[ while kol enjoys ripping any sliver of happiness anyone has right from under their fingertips, he sees that allowing rebekah to have what she wants in peace is doing her a favour as well as proving to be spiteful towards nik. he cannot control them, despite what he thinks, and while kol dislikes the notion rebekah wishes for a human life, he very much prefers sticking it to nik. ]

I have to admit, I have always admired your stubborn determination to get what you want.

You may think I'm here to ruin any chance of happiness you have, Rebekah, but you and I both want the same things.

I'm glad someone appreciates it. [She smiles. Few people see her stubbornness as a good thing, probably because it often goes hand in hand with her more bratty behavior. Over a thousand years and she still acts like a teenage girl more often than not.]

Actually, it's not you I'm worried about.

[A small concession, but Nik is the bigger threat to her happiness here, she's not dumb. She knows that.]
