KARAOKE NIGHT AT THE SHACK

[ The drinks are flowing at the Blook Shack (BLOOD FREE, OKAY?), the bass is pumping with cheesy karaoke songs. Come on in, mingle, drink, and sing a song, any song. And ladiessss it's your perfect chance to ask your dates to the Sadie Hawkins dance! Start a thread and comment here with what song your character is singing for the competition to get a prize!]

[Such the charmer. She's definitely delighted to see some men still have the old manners.]

It's never boring around here, now is it? I would call that a definite plus.

[And he's delighted to see a woman who enjoys it, rather than getting flustered as so many of her modern counterparts do.]

And so many different kinds of people here I'd never come across before, back home.

[He quirks an eyebrow.] I mean, you're a vampire, right?

[He feels it's a reasonable assumption to make, this being a vampire bar and her having implied she was around in the 20s.]

[It surprises her, how boldly he asks her. Most people don't pick up on it so quickly, if at all, and even they do -- well they aren't so straightforward.

Which may be why she chooses not to lie.
]

You'd be correct. Are you? [After all, he had implied he had been around during the 20s as well. Unless he was some other sort of immortal -- entirely possible here.]

[He grins, all teeth.]

No, I have a different kind of longevity. The kind where I just don’t stay dead. No fangs or blood-drinking or anything.

Also, I used to time travel a lot, and the 20s and 30s were one of my favourite periods.

Really? [She looks curious mostly.] That's a new one.

I liked the 20s a lot, definitely one of my favorite periods I lived through.

[She didn't experience the 30s -- but she's not going to go telling a stranger how her brother stuffed her in a coffin.]

Which? The time-travelling or the not staying dead?

[Well. He knows of at least one other of each here, after all.

He smiles again as they reminisce.]

It was a great period, wasn't it? Everyone living life to the full, so full of hope after the War... no-one dreamed there'd be another one so soon.

The time traveling. [She knows plenty of people who don't stay dead - - though most of them are vampires.]

It was. Jazz, prohibition, people were so daring, it was a lot of fun.

People never seem ready for another war though, no matter how soon or not it may be.

There are other time-travellers here, actually. [He nods towards Rose.] She's one of them.

[He grins widely, because she sounds like his sort of girl.]

I loved jazz. Missed a lot of prohibition since I spent most of my time in Britain, but yeah... good times.

So are you from that time, or have you lived through to the 21st century? [Because she's dressed in modern clothes, though she could have updated her look since getting here, after all.]

I suppose I shouldn't be that surprised, there are all sorts of people here.

[Which keeps things interesting, to say the least.]

I spent most of my time in Cbicago during the twenties. Prohibition was a lot of fun.

[Has she lived through to the 21st century? Well yes and no but she'll give the easy answer.]

Yes, I have.

I never made it to Chicago, but I spent some time in New York in the late twenties. It was... an interesting time.

[Well, he did end up getting strung up and killed repeatedly by the man he loved.

He shakes his head with a small smile and moves on.]

I know it's rude to ask a lady's age, but can I ask when you're from originally? When you were... turned, is that the right word?

It was definitely memorable.

[The man she loved had his memory wiped of her and she got put in a coffin for ninety years. These things happen.]

The 10th Century. And yes, that would be the most common used term.

[Though it was a little more complicated for her since her family were the first vampires.]

[He can sense the faint bite there beneath her words, but he doesn't know her well enough yet to pry.]

10th century, huh. That's... wow. A long time to live!

[He's slightly awed and definitely fascinated, as he always is by someone with somethings special about them, be it age or power, or tentacles or whatever.]

[Age and power she has -- tentacles not so much.]

It is. I've had the luck to live through quite a bit.

Yeah. The things you must have seen...! I mean, I've lived through 140-odd years consecutively and just the changes I've seen there are incredible, but before that I just flitted in and out of different periods. Never really got the long picture, you know?

[She nods a little.] I do. [She did miss ninety years, so she can't even claim she has the whole picture.]

It's been interesting to see how the world evolves, to say the least.

You too, huh?

[There is some, though it's not something she'll expand on at the moment.]

I think it's fairly common to be surprised when you've lived long enough, the world changes in ways she never would have guessed.

Hey, I think I'm up in a minute. I'd better go and get myself ready. It's been really fascinating talking to you, though, Rebekah!
