Movie Mirage event
[Just seconds after today's morning greeting has finished, Puck appears on the floating island, looking out over the sector with a grin. Sure he could have done this before Veridical's broadcast - there are doubtlessly more people awake now than there were five minutes ago - but since there's not much he can do to enchant the wardens, it's better to wait to make sure they don't say something to ruin his lovely surprise. But now!]

[He doesn't broadcast his spell; in fact, he's not even wearing his communicator, but if someone just happens to pass by the floating island at this moment, they might hear what he's saying:]

Plays of old forgotten be
Yet theatre's still an art to see
Evolved from stage to silver screen
This morning Puck will go unseen
Deliv'ring visions unto all
Come join; we'll have ourselves a ball!

[ Hei's hand immediately reached out to grab the back of Dick's shirt, if he's not too late ] Don't be hasty. If someone's in danger, it's for a reason.

[ he hesitated and then let go (assuming he managed to grab Dick at all to begin with) ]

Hurry, but stay out of sight. You'll do no good if you get caught.

[ and yes, he'll come, if only to make sure Dick doesn't get into trouble. He's always had a soft spot for children, no matter how hard he's tried to deny it. ]

[Dick is a bit more aware of his surroundings than that, so he catches the hand is coming and ducks to the side easily, spinning to look at the weird guy while frowning.]

I don't have to stay out of sight. If someone's in trouble I'm going to help them.

[He might sound a bit more serious that his small stature and age would have him be, but someone sounds like their being hacked to death and it's enough to make him sick. He can't just let it happen. He turns back around and hurries into the cornfield, pushing the stalks to the side to maneuver through it.]

[ And to Hei, it simply looks as though he's brushing aside the foliage, tree branches, wayward bushes.Choosing a different path, a parallel path, he treads softly as he keeps the boy in sight. If Dick won't stay hidden, Hei will do his best instead and the weight of his new knives against his sides is a comfort. Whatever comes his way, Hei is prepared. ]

Fine, just come on. [The screams end but the chainsaw is still going and Dick feels a terrible sense of trepidation over what he might find. He wishes he had his Robin uniform. Or a batarang.

The corn feels like it's getting thicker. Like he might never find his way out. The dim light suddenly disappears and everything is pitch black. He looks around, then up. Thick clouds cover the moon. Damn.

And where did the other guy go?]

[ Hei still as night plays completely across the forest and the birds that had been hovering across his shoulder fall silent. There is danger here, but he cannot find it, cannot pinpoint it. All there is is him and the boy.

Treading with light feet, he circled the clearing, eyes trained to pick out every nuance, every shade of shadow that might fall wrong across the bushes, across the mat of leaves. He could find nothing amiss. Speaking low, his voice carrying across the clearing, he attempted the nudge the boy on. ]

What's wrong? Did it stop?

[ whatever the boy could hear, it was unsettling. Hei was not used to going unprepared into battle. Not even one such as this. ]

You're in the middle of a forest, not corn.

... When did you start seeing things? [ it didn't start for Hei until he left the apartment. He had his doubts as to the rest, if this was Marinanova still or... someplace else. It wouldn't' be the first time, but he had hoped it would be the last. ]

It would appear I am, although all fairy tales have their grimm moments. Watch out!

[ Hei barely dodges himself as an axe flies out of nowhere, landing right where Dick was standing just a moment earlier. Whatever was happening, it seems their visions had merged for the moment, mores the pity as it were. Hei was not in the mood to deal with some lonely huntsman. ]

The chainsaw is so close it could cut his hair, but he drops to the ground, restraining himself from covering his ears at the loud noise. He sweeps his leg, ready to kick out at his attacker.]

Well this guy seemed pretty darn real to me! What are we gonna do about him? Can you even see him?

[ he has his own battles to fight as the huntsman lunges out of the woods, knife in hand. He side steps the man and pulls out his knives, careful to keep an eye on the shifting form, the turn of his heel as the man pivoted to face him again. This was going to be more of a challenge then Hei thought. ]

I can see him, or one of them. Your assailant is your own.

[ which made Hei wonder who was real and... who wasn't. Either way, there was a greater mind at work here and that was troubling indeed. ]

So there are two crazy killers out here and we can each only see one? [That is so not funny. Dick jumps out of the way of the chainsaw again, using his body weight to rip one of the cornstalks out of the ground as he goes. Then he swings it in the direction the sound is coming from, but all he gets is the feet of the corn being shredded in his hands.]

You wouldn't happen to have an imaginary flashlight you could share, would you?

[ Hei stills for a moment, just long enough to do a very quick sidestep to avoid getting chopped in half by his imaginary huntsman. ] Close your eyes, now!

[ and as he steps in to shove his knife into the heart of the very man attempting to attack him, Hei lights up a bright, stunning blue, the glow growing as he twists the blade deeper into this man's heart, doing double damage as the electrical charge flows from Hei to him. It lasts only a few seconds, but it should be enough to blind anyone left standing and the afterglow...

It will have to be enough. ]

[And then just like that lightning strikes down from the sky and Dick brings up a hand to cover his eyes. It's so bright even with that, but Dick can hear the man yelling out in pain so his instinct is to dart forward. He sweeps his leg out just like Batman taught him, and then brings out his elbow for any soft piece of flesh he can find.

He didn't mean to hit the guy's throat, but he's somewhat sure he didn't kill him.]

Fled, perhaps. Regardless, Hei was certain they'd not be bothered again. ] Are you hurt? [ best get to the point and quick. They had been in search of someone, whomever Grayson had heard in the distance. Time was not on their side. ]
