Movie Mirage event!
Hello, MarinaNova! Remember this post? I'm finally following up on it, with an event starting on Day 208 and lasting all dayweek.

What's going to happen is that Puck is going to cast a mirage over the dome, inspired by different movie genres. Westerns, horror, sci-fi, zombie flicks… it's up to you as players to choose what "movie" your character will experience. Anything goes as long as it's got some kind of action element to it – put your character in a Victorian ball gown and say it's a historical fantasy with werewolves if you want. All "movies" will happen simultaneously, and it's possible for all characters to see different things.

I'll illustrate with an example since I'm not sure how much sense I'm making with this:

Let's say Haunt decides to go with a zombie movie for Sam. He'll wake up in the morning to a post-apocalyptic dome with little resources and blood splattered on the pavement, and of course it will be crawling will zombies.
Let's also say that Rica puts Aidan in a gangster movie. He'll find himself in a fancy suit, surrounded by film noir scenery and people prone to carrying guns and making very amiable death threats.
Now let's say Sam and Aidan run into each other. Their individual "movies" won't change; in fact, Sam might think Aidan looks suspiciously zombie-like, and anything he says Sam might only hear as grunts (or cries for brains). Meanwhile, Sam raising his hand in greeting might in Aidan's eyes look like he's raising the gun he took out of his fancy suit jacket, while anything he says comes out as talk about "sleeping with the fishes".
To clarify, neither of them will believe themselves to have always lived in this alternate world - the mirage only affects the surroundings, not the character's mind.

The mirage won't stay perfect at all times - at player discretion, characters' actions and dialogue will seep through unaltered by Puck's spell, and by the end of the dayweek the "scenery" will occasionally glitch. That is to say, it's possible to figure out it's all fake, even if it will still feel, look and sound just as real despite this knowledge/suspicion.

Basically, you're free to do pretty much what you want with this event. You can go around killing imaginary NPC zombies with your team of survivors; accidentally hurt your best friend whom you mistook for a vengeful ghost and angst about it; or have a cracky thread with all the over-the-top Western clichés you can think of. Make it as dramatic or as silly as you want (Puck approves of both). Naturally, the genre doesn't have to "fit" the character unless you want it to.

Opt-out: The mirage will not be in effect inside the hospital or in Sector 6, and it will be more prone to glitching the closer to the dome's walls you get. If your character has put up anti-magic protection inside their apartment I'll leave it up to you to decide if Puck's magic overrides that. The same goes for characters that can't be compelled.

After the fact, Puck will make it reasonably clear who was behind all this so he can be properly yelled at. I'll post a mingle on Monday the 25th to start things off, but you are of course free to make your own posts.

Does this sound like it's kind of inspired by Puck's threads with Zatanna and Dean in particular? That's because it is. You can all blame them for this.

I'll do my best to answer any questions! You can also use this post for plotting, if you'd like.

Dean is happy to oblige! And he only regrets that he can't do a reenactment of cowboys vs. aliens. Because that would've been epic.

I am so sorry that I didn't get around to doing this while he was still in the dome. At least his legacy lives on!

Question! Can the movie characters look like people from your world who aren't in Marina? (Example, your character is in a buddy cop movie and their best friend who isn't in Marina plays one of the cops)

Well, Puck isn't psychic and wouldn't be able to create mirages of people he's never met, but we can always say that the character's mind shapes the mirage to an extent, so that NPC "movie characters" are played by people they know from home.

So in conclusion: sure, why not!

Question!

When a character touches something will it feel like the thing they are seeing to them? Like will their mind trick them into thinking that or will it throw them off or could that kind of thing go either way?

For instance in my current post I have Kitty thinking a stick is a sci fi blaster but should she know better since she's holding it?

I was thinking the former, that their mind will be tricked into thinking it's something else and then be confused when firing it doesn't kill anyone. But as far as I'm concerned, if you want your character to realise the spatula they're holding isn't really a gun, the mirage can conveniently glitch at the moment they pick it up. Does that make sense?

It does! That's what I was assuming and then I realized maybe I shouldn't assume that since I could kind of see it going either way. Former it is! <3
