Day 206 [Video | Action]
[Waking up is always disorienting for Peter. Waking up in an unfamiliar place wearing clothes that aren’t his is nearly panic inducing. It’s enough that he doesn’t really absorb or register the welcome message that is presented to him. His mind jumps to conclusions: maybe what happened to Dr. Connors is happening to him; the spider DNA is taking over the human DNA and he’s blacking out. Maybe the police caught him and he has a massive head injury, which is why he can’t remember how he got here wearing a prison jumpsuit.

Except…except when he looks around, this isn’t like any prison he’s ever seen, any he’s ever heard of. Once he calms down, he notices that he’s nearly deaf and blind which brings about a fresh wave of panic during which he realizes he’s neither deaf or blind, he’s simply lacking all the spidey senses he’s become so accustomed to. After some experimentation involving doorknobs and benches, he discovers that his super strength is gone as well. It becomes apparent his balance has returned to normal pre-bite clumsy when he trips over his own feet walking over to sit on the bench he’d just been trying to mutilate. That’s when he finally pays attention the information he’s been given and figures out (to a degree) what’s going on. He doesn’t contact the network quite yet though. Instead, he liberates a pair of jeans, a tee shirt, tennis shoes and a hoody, changes into them and hits the food stands. It’s only after he’s dressed and has been fed that he decides to navigate the network. At least his tech knowledge and ability hasn’t been stripped from him.]

And suddenly I’m in Sci-Fi Land, which I always thought should be a real place in Disneyland. I mean they’ve got Tomorrowland, but who are we kidding? It didn’t look anything like what I imagined the future would be. They could bling it out with tech and holograms, all kinds of shiny things and lights, people walking around in too much latex. Maybe an alien or two, the friendly sort…

[He stops rambling and his brow furrows a moment.] That—that got away from me. Any chance Oscorp has their fingers in this?

[ He’d question NYPD because they want Spiderman gone as much as anyone, but he doesn’t think they have the juice or funds to make that happen, not to mention that as far as he knows, they don’t know Peter Parker and Spiderman are one and the same.]

[ooc: If you’d like to action, you can catch Peter in sector 0 wearing the orange jumpsuit, trying to break a bench or a doorknob or a something. You can come upon him sitting on the bench and learning all about Marinanova or shopping in the clothing stores or scarfing down an incredible amount of food at any number of street vendors]

[Well she's not wrong. It is frustration and a little fear. He doesn't like not having his powers. Peter loves his powers. He has fun with them. To have them taken away is a bit like someone taking away his favorite toy. He's just more concerned with the whole idea of prison than anything else. He looks up, a bit surprised by the voice and the tall brunette it belongs to. ]

I...uhm...there was a bee. A bee and I-- [Too late he realizes that she didn't ask him why he was beating on the bench. ] Right. I'd go with the punching and hitting things, but I'm not really much of a punching kind of guy. Unless there are bees. I really hate bees.

Hi. I'm Peter.

Bees are supper annoying. I think only beekeepers like bees... or entomologists cause they cover the whole spectrum of creepy-crawlies... which is actually less creepy and more interesting if you think about it, I mean in the way you learn tons of stuff from them.

[Side-tracked yet? Don't worry, Dawn can have lots of conversations all at once, and usually does. Most people ignore parts of what she says or just don't keep up at all. She's going to go back to the introductions because that's easy to keep up with. She smiles.] Hi, Peter. I'm Dawn, or she who spectates at the athletic complex... meaning I'm not really a punching kind of girl either.

No. Yeah, you're right. About entomology. I've done a little of studying that. Mostly arachnids. They're kind of fascinating and we really can learn tons from them. When you think about it, a lot of the creepy-crawlies have things to teach us. Like the lizard that can regrow it's tail. How cool is that? Can you imagine if we could learn how to do that? I mean it's great in theory and should probably stay theory for a while unless we figure out a way to properly test it without using people. But still and hey the way spiders heal? Rapid regeneration is cool.

[Don't worry. Peter gets side-tracked by science a lot.]

It's nice to meet you, Dawn. [He pauses and ruffles a hand through hair that's already standing on end. He hesitates, giving himself a moment to mull through the information he was given when he first arrived.] Any idea where we are? And...why am I in an orange jumpsuit and you aren't? Not that I'm complaining about your lack of orange jumpsuit. Good fashion choice. I mean yours. I was just more...not much into orange or jumpsuits come to think of it.

[Look at her obvious surprise. She really didn't expect Peter (or anyone really) to care about her rambling or to have an actual conversation about the cool quirks of certain species of arachnids or reptiles.] Rapid regeneration is so cool. You know there are some spells out there can do a good bit of regeneration, rapid healing and even raising the dead. But they take super a lot of black magic and you kind of have to be a mega witch or have an affinity to magic anyway to perform them. But the possibilities are cool... as long as they aren't abused, you know...

[She smiles again at his compliment.] Oh, there's a store. Well, a clothing depository where you can pick whatever you want. Come on, I'll show you. [She turns and starts to walk, hoping he'll follow with her.] So we're under an ocean that no one's ever heard of which makes me think it's on a planet in a pocket dimension that's specifically for the purpose of this prison. Meaning no one's from wherever this is... whatever planet, I mean.

[Are you kidding? He'll have so many conversations about arachnids and reptiles. He's just glad she didn't go ewwww gross at the whole idea of spiders. It makes it awkward (for him at least) when people are grossed out by spiders. Not that he is a spider or anything except he's got some of those cool quirks. She gets some obvious confusion and a whole lot of bwah when she mentions magic and spells. He shakes his head as if to clear it (kind of like a befuddled puppy).] Okay wai---H-hold on. [He puts a finger up as if to gesture 'wait a minute' then spins it in a backward sort of loop.] Rewind. Huh? Magic? Like...Siegfred and Roy...okay le-less sparkly and a lot less plastic surg--not important. Magic?

[He does follow her, just a step or so behind, nodding at her explanation.] Whoa. We are so far out of my league of understanding. I mean, sure, I've looked at quantum physics and there was even that paper on how parallel dimensions and aliens are more plausible than one might originally think but...seriously? Right now, we're on another planet in another dimension?

[He pauses a moment, a giant grin spreading over his face before he goes totally dorky, bouncing up on his toes a second.] That is so cool.

[She always does that, just rambles her way into topics she probably shouldn't be so insta-open about. Like right now with magic. She rewinds back to explain magic as best she can.] Yeah, less Siegfred and Roy and more real. You know, like with witches and warlocks and covens and... magical things...

[How in the world was she supposed to not smile at his excitement. It was impossible. So she did smile, her nose wrinkling up just a bit.] It is pretty cool. I mean as far as pocket dimensions go, or any alternate dimensions or realities, this one's definitely not on the bad side of things. I mean it doesn't seem so hell-like. More somewhere in the middle.

[She pauses, pressing her lips together to quit smiling like a freak.] So where are you from?

[It's not like Peter won't find out about it here anyway. He's still giving her a doubtful, confused look.] Okay...that's a parallel dimension thing because I'm pretty sure back home it's all about Siegfred and Roy and David Blaine and Chris Angel.

[That's the proper response. She's got a great smile and if Peter is focusing on that, he's not focusing on the things here that are bothering him like: how are we going to get out of here.] Somewhere in the middle?

[If he's going to be here until he figures out how to get out, he wants to know what he's dealing with.] Oh. Uhm, New York City. You? [He likes the smiling like a freak though!]

Speaking of Chris Angel, hot much? Not... to you, but to me. [Wow, talk about embarrassing. Dawn dips her head so that some of her hair falls into her face to hide the blush there. She never makes good first impressions. Ever.] But I digress, there are some people here from worlds where none of that exists so you might be one. In my world, there are some people who just don't know it exists so that might be a thing too?

[They reach one of the clothing places and she pulls the door open and they walk in together. She doesn't even think about the fact that he might should do his changing clothes on his own. Instead she just continues to talk right on through.] Well there are hell dimensions and heavenly dimensions and all the in-between. I knew this demon once who said there was a world entirely made up of shrimp... so you know, anything is possible. But here we're not burning in flames or being tortured. And we're not singing hymns or feeling all happy. So I'm going with somewhere in the middle kind of dimension.

[A City boy? She'd kind of romanticized people from the Big Apple to the point where she was now looking at Peter in surprise, and with a bit of admiration.] Wow. That's cool. Living in New York is... a big thing. I mean cool. The City that never sleeps, The Big Apple, Broadway... all that... jazz. I'm from a little town called Sunnydale in California. It doesn't exist anymore. But more recently I've been going to Berkeley and living in San Francisco... which still existed the last time I checked.

[He shakes his head a little at that.] Man, girls always go for the bad boys. Even in other dimensions. [She's making a good impression now! he just think she likes a lot of leather, tattoos and eyeliner] Maybe, but I've seen some weird things. I kind of think I'd know if it was a thing back home.

[He would have gotten the door for her if he'd known where they were going, but as it is, he lets her lead, listening to her talk about dimensions.] Wait, so you've got experience with other dimensions besides this one? Wow. I am out of my league.

[It's not that romantic, Dawn.] I like it. It's got lots of cool places to just sortof hang out and heights. I like heights. [God could he sound any more like a dork? He thinks not. He turns his attention to some of the clothes on the shelves.] Yup, we've got a Berkeley where I'm from too. That's a good school. So you're in college? I-I'm a senior in high school. I've been considering colleges though. Berkley is good but I'll probably end up at Columbia because my aunt is in New York City. I kind of want to stay near her.

Well there's a difference in being attracted to a person and going for them. It's kind of nice when a guy has a little bit of an edge to him, going against the flow, fighting for team good. But it's even better when you have things in common with them... like fighting for team good or a love of books or food experimentation.

[She playfully rolls her eyes, still grinning a bit.] Trust me, you're not out of your league. I'm probably under your league if anything. Wait 'til you meet some of the hotties this prison pulls in. It seems to have a thing for attractive people, boys and girls and monsters... [She waves her hand in his direction.] Case in point.

[Twirling around once to look around the place, she spots the section for boys and heads in that direction, still talking to him over her shoulder.] It's good to be near family. My sister's here and I'm really lucky that she is. I'm not sure what I'd do if she weren't... a phone call away. [She's experienced it before, but then she'd had the Buffy Bot to kind of pretend with to the point that she had never really accepted or gotten over or through Buffy's death. She really didn't know what she would do in a situation where there was no Buffy and no Willow and Tara to keep her going and no Spike that would actually give a shit about her and no Xander to lean on without the awkwardness that is their relationship now. She didn't like to think about it.] So what's your style? Clothes. Sometimes if you have something that's patently yours like a leather coat or something [Like Spike.] You can request it from the Wardens.

Right. Okay. [He's nodding, puzzling out what she's saying and not commenting because secret identities are a thing.]

I just meant--[And then his thought process is derailed because did she just---yeah he's pretty sure she just and grin ducks his head grinning, a slight blush rising. He clears his throat and shakes his head, more clearing it than disagreeing with her.] Uhm...thanks.

So-so some times they pull families here? [He's not sure whether he wants Aunt Mae here or not and he won't make up his mind about that until he's had some time here to determine how safe it is. Then she's asking him another question and he moves on to that.] Mostly jeans, tee shirts, hoodies. That sort of thing. [Wait. What?] So...if I had a lucky hoody, I could request it and they'd get it to me? [Because yes, Peter Parker is dork enough to have a lucky hoody, but what he's really thinking about is his Spider-man suit.]

[His awkwardness is so cute and it's something Dawn can relate too since she falls into awkwardness a lot herself. It's actually one of her defaults. For just a few seconds his stammering makes her think of Xander, and she quickly tries to push that line of thought away before it can make her sad or overwhelm her.] Sometimes. Buffy was apparently here for a long time before me. And there's a few more people that I know from home here too. Almost our whole group.

[She nods.] Oh yeah, they'll usually give you anything you want unless it's a weapon. Some things require rehabilitation points that add up the longer you're here and are a good little inmate.

[She looks over the racks and actually starts to shop for him before she realizes how weird that probably is.] I... should probably let you do your thing here.

[He'd like to stop being awkward, but that's not likely to happen any time soon. The only time he feels like he's smooth is when he's wearing the suit, when he's Spider-man. He doesn't realize it, but Spider-man brings out his cocky, slightly jerky, but still adorkable side. Basically, he's naturally awkward. Maybe one day he'll grow out of it.] How was...didn't you miss her? Back home. If she as here before you, I mean.

[He is definitely going to have to make a request of the wardens then, for more than one thing. He hopes he doesn't have to wait for rehab points to get what he wants, but that remains to be seen. ] Huh. What does being a good little inmate entail?

[Peter is a boy. His aunt shops for him. He's fairly content to let some other girl, even someone he doesn't really know, shop for him as long as she doesn't try to dress him weird.] Oh...uhm...if you...gimme a sec? I'll get changed and I'm starving. [This is a constant state of being for Peter.] Maybe you could show me where to grab some food? I mean...you could eat with me, if you're hungry or just...watch. [Because watching him eat kind of IS a spectating event.]

Well there's this idea here that when we get pulled in here clones of us get sent back to live our lives. So it's like the clones are us but not. So I guess... I don't know. I think when I first got here that she was from a different time than me too. Like I was from her future and she was from my past. I think now she's caught up? It's weird cause there are so many possibilities of how and when people get pulled in here and where they get pulled in from. There's even such a thing as parallel worlds... like for all I know there could be a me out there somewhere who isn't awkward and clumsy and ramble-y with the words...

[It's clearly a subject that interests her, what with the way she goes on and could probably keep going were she not trying so hard to stop. As it is, she tries to be just a little more concise with her explanation of 'good little inmate'.] You know, participating in the general prison stuff, following the rules... things like that. You get points built up for that.

[It actually makes her happy that he's kind of inviting her to eat with him. She nods quickly and backs up a bit, smiling like a look.] Yeah, that sounds good. I like food. [I like food? Way to go, Dawn.] I'll just... be over by the doors where we came in.

[Peter listened, intrigued both because of the subject matter and because of the interest it was obvious she had in it. His brow furrows a little as he nods. It's not something he knows much about beyond what he's learned from sci-fi television and books.]

Like parallel universes created by diverging decisions. You turn left but in another universe you turn right and the events that domino from that create an entirely different, parallel universe. [He purses his lips a moment, considering that.] But that assumes that your behaviors are nature based rather than genetic. Clumsyness is usually a genetic sort of thing. For whatever reason there's not as much coordination going on between your feet and your brain. I guess it could be surmounted through years of ballet started at a young age. Maybe in that universe, your mother took you seriously when you announced you wanted to be a ballerina at the age of three. [Clearly he can ramble with the best of them.]

Right, but somehow I'm not seeing any chain gangs going on around here. No one is digging ditches that people down the line are filling in. [Basically, not the general prison stuff he was expecting.]

Hey. Me too. Like food. I mean--food is good? [ They are wordsmiths. He glances over at the doors, back to Dawn then nods.] Yeah, I'll be quick.

[He grabs a pair of jeans and heads toward the dressing room, snagging a tee shirt and a hoody as he goes.]

[Did she just get chills up her spine (the good kind of chills) from the way he understood the parallel universe thing? She did. And she smiles a silly, ridiculous smile and hurries off to the door of the clothing place. She eyes her reflection in the glass doors, smooths back some stray whisps of her hair before finally deciding to just take it down out of its ponytail all together.]

Not bad, Dawn.... not bad... [She straightens her shirt a bit and steps back, nearly knocking over a shirt display in the process. But luckily she catches it just in time. Clumsiness is genetic? Peter had not met the other Summers girl yet. Maybe it skipped a generation.]

More likely the slayer thing supersedes the clumsy thing. When she lost her slayer power, Buffy threw like a girl and was sort of clumsy as well.

Peter finishes getting dressed, leaving the prison uniform hanging on a hook and heads over toward Dawn. He's got a pair of jeans, a gray tee shirt and a navy blue hoody on and he feels more like himself right now.]

I think so. But you have to get these little cinnamon breadstick things they have that you can dip in icing... for dessert, I mean. Not in place of the pizza. There should be pizza, then cinnamon icing goodness. It's seriously like a party in your mouth...

[She flushes pink and looks away when she says that. Leave it to her to say things like that right off the bat without any warning. They keep walking a few steps and then she's apologizing.] Number one thing to know about Dawn Summers is that sometimes I say weird things without thinking first and it melts into totally embarrassment without any warning and then after the embarrassing there's the awkward. I have this thing where sometimes I rattle off half a dozen unfinished sentences and talk in circles that never go anywhere and I ramble. If I try to be smooth, it's--it's so much worse so basically I've just sort of--sort of resigned myself to, you know, just being awkward. So, you don't have anything to be embarrassed about. [She links her arm with his as they walk through the dome.] In that case, Peter Parker, we're gonna get along great cause we seem like we're peas in a pod.

[She looks around the immediate area.] So this is the dome. You're in prison even if it isn't very prison-like. But it's run by robots, which is creepy and yet also interesting. This place pulls people in from all different worlds, realities, timelines. There are some dangerous people here but most people seem to be mostly harmless. The Wardens just have no grey area, you know? Everything is good or bad with no in between.

He grins a bit at the way she hooks her arm through his. She's certainly not shy and that's nice. "Sounds exactly like someone I could use in a place like this. Someone I get along great with, I mean."

He glances around as she does and even more as she gives her explanation. "Who runs the robots?" Because he figures there must be someone or something that gives them orders and directions, but before he can think too much about it, she's off on talking about people from different worlds, realities and timelines. That's mind boggling to say the least. "Huh. So it's a whole Les Miserables situation. They don't care that the guy was stealing bread to feed his family. He's a thief. Go directly to jail. Do not pass go."

“Good question. I’ve never thought about that but I guess someone had to actually build the robots. A Warren-type master mind. He was this guy back in Sunnydale who built these really life-like and grossly anatomically correct robots.” Her nose wrinkles a bit and she shakes her head. “What drives me crazy is that the Wardens don’t seem to have any grey area for the circumstances of why the crimes were done. They have this absolute good is good and bad is bad mentality. And I know for a fact that there’s always a grey area.”

They’re approaching the pizza parlor and she gestures toward the building. “Yeah, like Monopoly minus the cute little guy with the moustache and top hat waving you in.”

"He built sex bots?" The words fly out of his mouth before he can stop them. Sex bots are traditional fodder in comic books and sci-fi mythology. "Yeah, there's definitely a grey area. Anyone who's ever stepped out of the house knows there's a grey area. it's sort of the basis for a practical, functioning world, at least in my opinion. Good and bad are great and good lines to have and not cross, but it's--it's not the most practical sort of thing to go by."

Peter opens the door for her, holding it so she can walk through. "I always liked that guy."
