Day 206 [Video | Action]
[Waking up is always disorienting for Peter. Waking up in an unfamiliar place wearing clothes that aren’t his is nearly panic inducing. It’s enough that he doesn’t really absorb or register the welcome message that is presented to him. His mind jumps to conclusions: maybe what happened to Dr. Connors is happening to him; the spider DNA is taking over the human DNA and he’s blacking out. Maybe the police caught him and he has a massive head injury, which is why he can’t remember how he got here wearing a prison jumpsuit.

Except…except when he looks around, this isn’t like any prison he’s ever seen, any he’s ever heard of. Once he calms down, he notices that he’s nearly deaf and blind which brings about a fresh wave of panic during which he realizes he’s neither deaf or blind, he’s simply lacking all the spidey senses he’s become so accustomed to. After some experimentation involving doorknobs and benches, he discovers that his super strength is gone as well. It becomes apparent his balance has returned to normal pre-bite clumsy when he trips over his own feet walking over to sit on the bench he’d just been trying to mutilate. That’s when he finally pays attention the information he’s been given and figures out (to a degree) what’s going on. He doesn’t contact the network quite yet though. Instead, he liberates a pair of jeans, a tee shirt, tennis shoes and a hoody, changes into them and hits the food stands. It’s only after he’s dressed and has been fed that he decides to navigate the network. At least his tech knowledge and ability hasn’t been stripped from him.]

And suddenly I’m in Sci-Fi Land, which I always thought should be a real place in Disneyland. I mean they’ve got Tomorrowland, but who are we kidding? It didn’t look anything like what I imagined the future would be. They could bling it out with tech and holograms, all kinds of shiny things and lights, people walking around in too much latex. Maybe an alien or two, the friendly sort…

[He stops rambling and his brow furrows a moment.] That—that got away from me. Any chance Oscorp has their fingers in this?

[ He’d question NYPD because they want Spiderman gone as much as anyone, but he doesn’t think they have the juice or funds to make that happen, not to mention that as far as he knows, they don’t know Peter Parker and Spiderman are one and the same.]

[ooc: If you’d like to action, you can catch Peter in sector 0 wearing the orange jumpsuit, trying to break a bench or a doorknob or a something. You can come upon him sitting on the bench and learning all about Marinanova or shopping in the clothing stores or scarfing down an incredible amount of food at any number of street vendors]

[Peter listened, intrigued both because of the subject matter and because of the interest it was obvious she had in it. His brow furrows a little as he nods. It's not something he knows much about beyond what he's learned from sci-fi television and books.]

Like parallel universes created by diverging decisions. You turn left but in another universe you turn right and the events that domino from that create an entirely different, parallel universe. [He purses his lips a moment, considering that.] But that assumes that your behaviors are nature based rather than genetic. Clumsyness is usually a genetic sort of thing. For whatever reason there's not as much coordination going on between your feet and your brain. I guess it could be surmounted through years of ballet started at a young age. Maybe in that universe, your mother took you seriously when you announced you wanted to be a ballerina at the age of three. [Clearly he can ramble with the best of them.]

Right, but somehow I'm not seeing any chain gangs going on around here. No one is digging ditches that people down the line are filling in. [Basically, not the general prison stuff he was expecting.]

Hey. Me too. Like food. I mean--food is good? [ They are wordsmiths. He glances over at the doors, back to Dawn then nods.] Yeah, I'll be quick.

[He grabs a pair of jeans and heads toward the dressing room, snagging a tee shirt and a hoody as he goes.]

[Did she just get chills up her spine (the good kind of chills) from the way he understood the parallel universe thing? She did. And she smiles a silly, ridiculous smile and hurries off to the door of the clothing place. She eyes her reflection in the glass doors, smooths back some stray whisps of her hair before finally deciding to just take it down out of its ponytail all together.]

Not bad, Dawn.... not bad... [She straightens her shirt a bit and steps back, nearly knocking over a shirt display in the process. But luckily she catches it just in time. Clumsiness is genetic? Peter had not met the other Summers girl yet. Maybe it skipped a generation.]

[Hey, he's a bright kid.

More likely the slayer thing supersedes the clumsy thing. When she lost her slayer power, Buffy threw like a girl and was sort of clumsy as well.

Peter finishes getting dressed, leaving the prison uniform hanging on a hook and heads over toward Dawn. He's got a pair of jeans, a gray tee shirt and a navy blue hoody on and he feels more like himself right now.]
Okay. Ready to go eat?

So ready. [She smiles again when she sees him, maybe a little too bright. This is an introductory to Marina Asylum kind of meal. Hello, welcome to prison, how about some food? She decides rather than over-think it, she should just ask him.] So what are you in the mood for? There's pretty much everything. Burgers, pizza, deli... all kinds of stuff.

Is the pizza any good? [ The bright smile is nice though, welcoming and she's got a good smile. At least he feels like someone is happy to see him here even if she doesn't really know him yet. He appreciates being asked, but honestly, Peter will eat anything. He ate frozen mac and cheese once.]

I think so. But you have to get these little cinnamon breadstick things they have that you can dip in icing... for dessert, I mean. Not in place of the pizza. There should be pizza, then cinnamon icing goodness. It's seriously like a party in your mouth...

[She flushes pink and looks away when she says that. Leave it to her to say things like that right off the bat without any warning. They keep walking a few steps and then she's apologizing.] Number one thing to know about Dawn Summers is that sometimes I say weird things without thinking first and it melts into totally embarrassment without any warning and then after the embarrassing there's the awkward. So... yeah.

Hey, no. You totally sold me with the party in your mouth endorsement. Can't take that back now.

[He grins at her like a dork.] It's good. I mean...it's cool. I'm...really awkward. I have this thing where sometimes I rattle off half a dozen unfinished sentences and talk in circles that never go anywhere and I ramble. If I try to be smooth, it's--it's so much worse so basically I've just sort of--sort of resigned myself to, you know, just being awkward. So, you don't have anything to be embarrassed about. I promise I'll--I'll be awkward too.

[She links her arm with his as they walk through the dome.] In that case, Peter Parker, we're gonna get along great cause we seem like we're peas in a pod.

[She looks around the immediate area.] So this is the dome. You're in prison even if it isn't very prison-like. But it's run by robots, which is creepy and yet also interesting. This place pulls people in from all different worlds, realities, timelines. There are some dangerous people here but most people seem to be mostly harmless. The Wardens just have no grey area, you know? Everything is good or bad with no in between.

He grins a bit at the way she hooks her arm through his. She's certainly not shy and that's nice. "Sounds exactly like someone I could use in a place like this. Someone I get along great with, I mean."

He glances around as she does and even more as she gives her explanation. "Who runs the robots?" Because he figures there must be someone or something that gives them orders and directions, but before he can think too much about it, she's off on talking about people from different worlds, realities and timelines. That's mind boggling to say the least. "Huh. So it's a whole Les Miserables situation. They don't care that the guy was stealing bread to feed his family. He's a thief. Go directly to jail. Do not pass go."

“Good question. I’ve never thought about that but I guess someone had to actually build the robots. A Warren-type master mind. He was this guy back in Sunnydale who built these really life-like and grossly anatomically correct robots.” Her nose wrinkles a bit and she shakes her head. “What drives me crazy is that the Wardens don’t seem to have any grey area for the circumstances of why the crimes were done. They have this absolute good is good and bad is bad mentality. And I know for a fact that there’s always a grey area.”

They’re approaching the pizza parlor and she gestures toward the building. “Yeah, like Monopoly minus the cute little guy with the moustache and top hat waving you in.”

"He built sex bots?" The words fly out of his mouth before he can stop them. Sex bots are traditional fodder in comic books and sci-fi mythology. "Yeah, there's definitely a grey area. Anyone who's ever stepped out of the house knows there's a grey area. it's sort of the basis for a practical, functioning world, at least in my opinion. Good and bad are great and good lines to have and not cross, but it's--it's not the most practical sort of thing to go by."

Peter opens the door for her, holding it so she can walk through. "I always liked that guy."

“Sadly, yes he did. And even sadder, I knew all about them.” Her nose wrinkles yet again because nothing can wipe those mental images made out of her overactive imagination. Xander had told her all about what he had witnessed in that cemetery. And there’s not enough brain bleach in the world.

She walks into the pizza parlor with him and finds an empty table. He opened the door for her too, which she is putting in his score column for being a cool guy. After sitting down, she sets her book bag down on the floor next to her chair and plucks a menu out of the holder it’s in in the center of the table. “You know it’s like in the world we live in, sometimes you have to work outside of the lines of the law to get good things done. We were considered terrorists for awhile back home but really we were just trying to save the world from vampires and other nameless big bads.”

She looks at him over the top of the menu. “Is there anything you hate on pizza? Cause I like everything but jalapenos.” One of those girls who picks at their food in front of a cute boy, she is not.

Peter makes a face as well because yeah, not enough brain bleach.

His aunt and uncle would have had a fit if he hadn't opened the door for a lady. He doesn't like disappointing them. "Terrorists? That sounds like a story." He hesitates, considering something for a moment. "There was this guy back home, he wore a costume, you know so no one knew who he was. He was doing good things, catching criminals and delivering them to the police but they didn't see it that way. He's kind of on the most wanted list and I think he's a hero. You know?"

He hesitates a moment and then shakes his head. "I'm not a big anchovy fan, but I'll eat pretty much anything." He's a seventeen year old black hole of a teenage boy when it comes to food.

Dawn nods because she completely gets that. Sometimes she thinks Buffy would be better off hiding her identity like that. "Like a super hero. You know how Bruce Wayne and Batman are one and the same except one wears a costume and alters his voice and the other pretends to be a playboy that doesn't give a crap about anything? Which, I know this is an opinion of the unpopular but I actually liked the Clooney Batman because of the cheesiness of it. I really like cheese, both metaphorical and in a dairy product."

She shrugs. "But I get it. My sister is kind of like a super hero. And I think she'd be safer if she wore a mask or something. The cops and the military wouldn't always be knocking at the door when questionable or in-explainable things happen. It's a safety kind of thing. If I were a super hero I'd totally figure out an awesome costume to wear."

She looks over the menu and finally decides on an everything pizza minus jalapenos and anchovies. When the waitress comes by, she orders a medium one and some of the cinnamon breadsticks with icing for dessert. "Did you know there's an entire world of shrimp? I have it on good authority. Random facts I know. I only thought about it because of the anchovy thing."

He grins at her explanation of Batman and nods a little. "Yeah. I mean I like the Bale Batman too, but it sort of depends on my mood and what I want in a movie at that particular time, you know?"

"Yeah, what sort of costume would you wear? And what would your superhero name be? 'Cause you've got to have a super hero name."

He can do an everything pizza and he doesn't tell her, but he could eat the medium pizza all by himself. He'll swing by to get more to eat on his way to whatever it is he has to do next. "Huh. Shrimp? Really? Does that come with cocktail sauce?"

"Oh yeah. It's like the difference between Gene Wilder Willie Wonka and Johnny Depp Willie Wonka. I'm almost always in a Gene Wilder mood but sometimes you've just gotta go with Captain Jack Sparrow on acid because of the cheese." Her examples are obviously the best examples. It's easy to see that she amuses herself with the way she's still smiling.

"Hmmmm costume would probably be something less spandex-y and more trench coat and eye mask. Just because the spandex thing is already overdone in the land of comic book superheroes." Her lips twist thoughtfully as she tries to think of what her superhero name would be. "Your superhero name usually has something to do with your powers, right? So... I'd be... research girl?" She rolls her eyes. "Lame."

"That movie made me afraid to eat candy ever again. For about five minutes." He grins at that. It's a pretty decent example as far as examples go.

"Yeah, but spandex...everything is spandex. Trench coats are good." He chuckles a little at that. "Now, don't be so hasty. Put a definitive article in front of it: The Researcher. I think you've got yourself something."

"Only five minutes? Good because if it was any longer I'd probably judge you in the most judge-y of ways. Honestly, I might have the most hugemongous sweet tooth of all the sweet tooths. Candy and chocolate and sugary cereals. I'm really lucky I have the metabolism I have." She laughs at herself again, but also she thinks his five minutes of no candy is pretty darn cute.

And his repairing of her lame super hero name just makes her smile even more. "The Researcher. Way less lame than Research Girl. I like it. You're pretty good at that... the whole superhero naming thing, I mean. Maybe naming superheroes is your super power."

"Maybe less. I'm not--I'd usually rather have pizza or street dogs or something like that over sweets, but I can destroy a cake or a pie in pretty much record time." Oh good. He was going for cute, but he wasn't sure he actually managed it. At her metabolism comment, he glances over, grinning a bit. "Yeah..yeah that's--" Okay, wait. No being creepy noticing she's pretty. Now quick, cover up. "That's another thing I've got going for me. The whole metabolism thing. It's a good--g-good thing to have going for you with the--you know."

He scrubs a hand over his face and up into his hair before he finally shoves it back in his pocket.

"Yeah. That'd be kind of an awesome super power because you know some leader of the school for superpowered kids is going to want you working for them."

Okay if he wasn't already really cute, he just made himself cuter. She's so smitten for just a brief moment that she just kind of smiled like a doofus at him. When she finally looks away, it's down at the table to somewhat hide that stupid smile that won't go away.

"So tell me about New York. What's life in the Big Apple like? Do you ever sleep in the City that never sleeps?"

Hey, no hiding the stupid smile. It's cute and besides, it makes him smile back at her like a goof. He ducks his head at her question, taking a moment to get his bearings. He clears his throat and shakes his head to clear it rather than to answer her question.

"Uhm...yeah. I mean everybody sleeps. Or, you know, mo-most people sleep. I sleep. Just-just not a lot. One of those things. Uhm...I don't know. I go to school. I sort of--I try and help my Aunt out around the house.It's--I've got a boring sort of life."

Except that it wasn't really, but he couldn't tell her that.

"Boring sounds nice though. I was trying the boring thing before I got pulled in here." Dawn pauses as their pizza and their drinks are brought to the table. She thanks the person who brought it and slips a slice off of the tray to put on the plate in front of her.

"I almost got killed in the last apocalypse type thing that happened. This guy... Giles, he was kind of like a dad to us and he did get killed. Anyway, I decided I needed a break and got back to school and back to normal." She smirks. "Weird how life keeps getting in the way of normal. I'm starting to think that normal and boring is just something that will never be. So consider me all the jealous of your boring."

"Sorry to hear about...your uhm...dad pers-GIles." He takes a deep breath then lets it out so that what he says next comes out in that rush of breath. "My uncle was murdered. Uhm...a few months ago. Months for me. Not--anyway. I guess--I don't know why I'm telling you that."

Maybe so that she'll guess that his boring wasn't as boring as he'd like to make it sound or maybe it was because she'd get it, the whole losing a dad thing.

"He was like--my parents died when I was five. Uncle Ben and Aunt Mae raised me."

“Oh, Peter…” This is probably the most serious he’s ever seen her. But she looks completely concerned and sympathetic. She knows how it feels to lose a parent. She knows how it feels to feel left behind and maybe even to feel like you don’t have anyone. “How was he murdered?” It might have been an odd question. But she’s thinking vampires, werewolves or whatever else. Normal murders don’t happen very often in her world. There was Tara. But even that stemmed from something supernatural.

He does that thing where he thins his lips out, pressing them together and shakes his head more to clear it then to answer anything. "Uhm...he--" he blows out a breath. Talking about Uncle Ben's death is still really hard for Peter. He's never felt like he didn't have anyone because Aunt Mae was always there, but he has felt like he was being punished, like it was his fault and he didn't deserve to have anyone there. "Uhm...I was--there was this guy that robbed this store. Convenience store. I stopped for chocolate milk because Uncle Ben and I had had a fight. He--Uncle Ben went looking for me and he--he heard the clerk yelling for someone to stop the guy. I---I could have stopped him, but the clerk had been a jerk to me earlier and I...I told him that it wasn't my problem. He---the guy...he shot Uncle Ben because Uncle Ben tried to stop him."

It's clear from his body language and the way he tells the story that he blames himself. His shoulders are hunched a bit, his hands are shoved in his pockets and the ground has become incredibly fascinating. Of course, looking at the ground conveniently hides the tears that he knows are in his eyes.
