[ sookie did her best to stay out of sam's mind, and that sam-specific wall was practically up by default. he may have given her permission to listen in any time she wanted, but while the sentiment was appreciated, and it was nice to have someone be okay with what she could do and couldn't help, he was still her boss, her friend. peeking in like that was an intrusion, and she wanted him to be able to keep some semblance of his privacy around her.

maybe if she were listening in, though, she would've known sam was coming and not ran into him as she rounded a corner. literally. oops? ]

[Sam's too distracted to notice the approaching blond, or maybe he just wasn't in the right spot to catch her scent. It's not like there was really a breeze in the dome. So he collides with her solidly and stumbles back a step. He manages to catch her shoulders though so she doesn't topple, taking a moment to realize who it is.

He then hugs her immediately, glad to see she's there and SOLID. She wasn't just a figment like the rest.

God she smells incredible.

No. No Sam. Must not get distracted.

He pulls back and smiles.]

I'm glad you're here, I mean, that you're normal. [He was starting to get confused okay? Even Jess went all intangible. It's hard to tell who's here and not. Finding one of his friends normal is a real relief.]

[ at least the person she smacked into was sam and not someone who would easily offend. not realizing sam was in a hurry, she blamed the incident entirely on her own inability to pay proper attention to her surroundings, though that hug is cause for concern. sure, sam hugs are a thing, but there's something about the way he's holding her that feels off, and she's sorely tempted to take a peek inside his head to see what's up... but doesn't. because this is sam and she can't. ]

Normal? [ it comes out with a laugh, because by golly, sookie stackhouse is anything but normal. maybe normal by faerie halfling standards, but certainly not the usual sense of the world normal. ] What're you talkin' about? Of course I'm fine, though I feel like I should be askin' you the same thing. What's goin' on, Sam?

[Really, he'd probably appreciate that more now than ever. With seeing some of these ghosts it's dragging up some awful things he's done in the past. The people he killed... He saw them and seeing them again uncovered that dirt. It's clinging to him a little and he will definitely need a stiff drink after all is said and done.

If he told anyone though, he had wanted Sookie to know, that's part of why he offered so long ago. He thought it could be an opportunity to tell someone about who he really is, what he really was and to show her how he felt. It was originally a gesture to make her feel more at ease too but, it was so easy to try and use her gift to finally come clean, he couldn't hide from her, didn't want to! It was hard to find the words to say if she could just hear what he thought? See how he felt?

At least, that had been his thought back then. She'd found some things out on her own since and as they grew distant, as he spent a year wondering if she were even still alive? That thought had gone. She could still listen if she wanted.

But...right now? Not a good time. Not like this.]

Yeah, well, I mean, you're you and not... a ghost or jus' someone I'm imaginin'.

[He shook his head, finally dropping his hands and letting her go.]

I'm not really sure what's goin' on jus' that I keep seein' things, people I remember that ain't really here. An' Jessica was like that too, only she could talk to me.

Why would I be a ghost? [ sookie had caught a glimpse of godric earlier, but she had assumed it was her imagination playing tricks on her, or something to do with the vampire blood in her system. sure, she'd never actually hallucinated on v before, given most the times she was fed vampire blood was for healing purposes and not to get high like v junkies do, but she knew it made people lose their shit and start seeing things. but if other people were seeing things, maybe-- ]

Jessica? What's wrong with her? Is she okay? [ she and bill may not be together anymore, but sookie still cares a great deal for the safety and well being of bill's progeny. jessica is a sweet girl and sookie would hate it if anything happened to her. ]

[The more important question here is why wouldn't she be a ghost? Even though, most of the people he's run into so far were technically dead to begin with. Maybe it was just something that affected vampires?

Sam just shrugs.]

She's just, well, see through and unable to touch things. Like a ghost. [He's not really sure how okay she is though. She didn't appear to be in any pain but he can only imagine how frustrating it must be to be intangible and unable to do anything. He hopes this wasn't a permanent thing.]

[If he'd had any hackles they'd be raised right about now. He slowly turned, moving a little stiffly and placing himself between the ghost and Sookie.]

They seem harmless... [He says this with a little uncertainty, just in case he happens to be wrong this time. Though he moves a hand in front of Rene and he doesn't seem to take notice. He's just smiling and talking as if muted]

Yeah... yeah, lets go.

[Carefully side-stepping and keeping an eye on Rene to be sure he is just a figment and not just an intangible guy like Jessica had been. He keeps himself between the ghost and Sookie at all times. Soon enough they're clear and casting a look back he sees Rene fade out. Some of the tension leaks from his shoulders.]

[ ah, the subject of eric. she was wondering when sam was going to bring that up, given his opinion of her dating bill. (not that sam hadn't been right about bill in the end, but eric was different.) ]

It's alright. I mean, things aren't ideal, given the setting and all, but I think I'm actually pretty content with myself, which doesn't happen too often now that Gran's gone.

[He's been trying to behave and not poke his nose where it doesn't belong this time. It's hard for him (and he's probably spied on them here or there in another form) but he's managed to keep out of it. He's still worried for her, about her, and Eric or how he treats her. She seems okay, content, happy... and hearing it makes him relax a little. He doesn't like it, probably never will truly accept it but at the same time, over time, he'd found peace with it to a degree.]

Yeah? You seem to be doin' alright. [Course he feels like he doesn't see her as much, but hopefully with the bar that will change.]

You might see her today, your Gran. Don't think they can talk to or see us though.
