[Action/Closed | Voice/Open]
[ Action 1 | Closed to Jane Crocker ]

[ So Dirk has to bake something for the other inmates. He would just blow it off, but he needs to get some practice in anyway. Cooking is something he intends to get better at.

So he's asked for Jane's help, and on the morning of Day 187 he stands in the kitchen of their apartment, surrounded by the materials necessary for making cookies, wearing a frilly pink apron. ]

[ Voice | Open ]

Hey, just a heads-up: My broke-ass headset's not translating anything today as part of some bullshit punishment for defending myself against a bunch of giant wasps. So if you don't speak English, Japanese, Urdu, Pashto, Farsi, Tagalog, or Lojban, don't bother trying to get in touch with me until tomorrow.

[ There's not very much to do when you live in the future. ]

Second, I made a bunch of cookies. Another punishment thing. I've planted them in random locations around the dome. Good luck.

[ They can be found basically anywhere: In the pockets of clothes in The Row, in drawers in empty apartments, on the learning modules in the Education Center. If you can think of a completely ridiculous location, there is a cookie there.

They taste awful. There's a reason he made them available for general consumption instead of just giving them to his housemates. ]

[ Action 2 | Closed to housemates ]

[ After going around finding stupid hiding places for the cookies, Dirk returns to their apartment.

He sighs. He's... exhausted. He hasn't slept for days, and after the wasps and the. Everything. He could just really use some sleep. But he has to keep going for three more days.

Fuck, why did he suggest this? ]

Are you ready?

[Jane as a red frilly apron, they match! (: ]

This is really simple I promise.

I sure hope so.

I doubt you're allowed to actually do anything physically to the ingredients, so just... walk me through this.

First of all, do you have the oven set to 350 degrees so it will be heated by the time we get done mixing the batter?

Uh. No, not yet.

[ He moves over to do that, completely forgetting about the bokuto he stole from the athletic center and stuck in there for safekeeping.

Normally he wouldn't be so careless, but he's gone like four days without sleep. ]

Even more than that. There were about seven thousand living languages circa the early twenty-first century, and that's not even counting sign languages and constructed languages.

Well, really only if you had to go somewhere where they spoke a language you didn't know, and even then English was a pretty common language in most places. Mainly because of stuck-up American tourists who expected every other country in the world to cater to them, but still.

There were attempts at coming up with standardized international languages -- Lojban was one, but the most popular was Esperanto. None of them really got anywhere, though.

Wait, wait, you're just... scatterin' cookies around without any sort of care in the world as some sort of punishment?!

Y'know if you ask me that's... that's not really doin' anything except attractin'... mice and other sorts of rodents that are gonna start scatterin' about, layin' droppings and reproducin' until the population starts gettin' out of control - if they have those sorts of things around here.. It seems like they would, really. More of a punishment for everyone else around here if you ask me. [no one asked you wheatley get out.]
