[Action/Closed | Voice/Open]
[ Action 1 | Closed to Jane Crocker ]

[ So Dirk has to bake something for the other inmates. He would just blow it off, but he needs to get some practice in anyway. Cooking is something he intends to get better at.

So he's asked for Jane's help, and on the morning of Day 187 he stands in the kitchen of their apartment, surrounded by the materials necessary for making cookies, wearing a frilly pink apron. ]

[ Voice | Open ]

Hey, just a heads-up: My broke-ass headset's not translating anything today as part of some bullshit punishment for defending myself against a bunch of giant wasps. So if you don't speak English, Japanese, Urdu, Pashto, Farsi, Tagalog, or Lojban, don't bother trying to get in touch with me until tomorrow.

[ There's not very much to do when you live in the future. ]

Second, I made a bunch of cookies. Another punishment thing. I've planted them in random locations around the dome. Good luck.

[ They can be found basically anywhere: In the pockets of clothes in The Row, in drawers in empty apartments, on the learning modules in the Education Center. If you can think of a completely ridiculous location, there is a cookie there.

They taste awful. There's a reason he made them available for general consumption instead of just giving them to his housemates. ]

[ Action 2 | Closed to housemates ]

[ After going around finding stupid hiding places for the cookies, Dirk returns to their apartment.

He sighs. He's... exhausted. He hasn't slept for days, and after the wasps and the. Everything. He could just really use some sleep. But he has to keep going for three more days.

Fuck, why did he suggest this? ]

I'm really glad it's not the case. I wouldn't have been able to understand WV or AR when we met.

Um, it probably wouldn't have ended well.

I can imagine.

...where did you meet them, anyway?

In exile!

It was really quite nice to finally make friends, even if there was a little confusion before we could really talk.

And by that I mean AR and I tried to kill each other.

In other words, wacky shenanigans.

[ He stifles a yawn. ]

I'm glad you three were able to forge such a deep bond, considering the backgrounds you come from.

Yes!

Me, too. Even if we were on opposite sides, AR and I really have more in common than I did with some of my Prospitian neighbors.

And WV just wants everyone to get along. It was an easy friendship, and I'm so very glad to have them.

Aw. It's like a happy Disney ending.

A happy what ending?

Oh, okay.

It's really not an ending, though. Just a happy time.

True. That's probably better.

[ It's going to be too bad for them when he breaks this place apart and AR has to go home to die. Oops. ]

[Wow rude Dirk]

I think so, too.

I'll take it where I can get it. Has Jack caused any problems for you?

Nope. I actually haven't heard much from him.

He's been quiet since the frog incident. And so has Snowman.

I'm not sure that I like it. [And yet, she has no desire to go chasing either one down quite yet.]

Yeah. [ He's frowning now. That is suspicious... ]

Now that you mention it, I'm absolutely sure I don't like it.

Well, at least I can promise that if he tries to go after you or your friends, he'll have to try and get through me, first.

Green static or fire. Dead frogs. My eyeball.

Umm.

Are you familiar with the Red Miles?

Ugh, noted.

Yeah, I was actually in the middle of a fucking miles gangbang before I got arrested. Jack apparently was using 'em to destroy my universe, and in the meantime some other douchebag was busting shit up on Derse with them.

That jerk. [She's been trying really hard to keep a lid on her burning desire for Jack's head on a pike, but it's been difficult.]

Anyway. The ability is locked to us, but I don't know what would happen if Snowman wore the ring. That would probably be a worst-case scenario, and all I could really do is try to damage control. [Which is to say, try and prevent as many people from dying as possible.]

[ He's about to say it's cool, there's nothing there worth saving anyway, before remembering that Roxy told PM about the carapacian colonies. Which she would definitely consider worth saving.

It's not that Dirk is racist, it's just that he doesn't really give a fuck about people he's not close to. ]

Maybe you could find out. Do the rings specifically only work if you're from the right kingdom, or could, say, AR or WV be affected by your ring's prototypings?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]promoted_pawn

It doesn't matter, as long as the wearer is a carapacian.

But AR absolutely refuses to ever wear it, and WV is more afraid of the Miles than most things.

So in other words, you've got no way to find out until the worst possible moment.

... Yes.

I don't really want to trust our wardens, but if they're anything like Acumen was, they'll at least try and prevent their prison from becoming too broken.

The prison itself, yes. We can't rely on them to keep casualties down, though.

[PM sighs.]

Maybe I'll ask AR again. If it's to save lives, he might be willing to try it.
