[Action/Closed | Voice/Open]
[ Action 1 | Closed to Jane Crocker ]

[ So Dirk has to bake something for the other inmates. He would just blow it off, but he needs to get some practice in anyway. Cooking is something he intends to get better at.

So he's asked for Jane's help, and on the morning of Day 187 he stands in the kitchen of their apartment, surrounded by the materials necessary for making cookies, wearing a frilly pink apron. ]

[ Voice | Open ]

Hey, just a heads-up: My broke-ass headset's not translating anything today as part of some bullshit punishment for defending myself against a bunch of giant wasps. So if you don't speak English, Japanese, Urdu, Pashto, Farsi, Tagalog, or Lojban, don't bother trying to get in touch with me until tomorrow.

[ There's not very much to do when you live in the future. ]

Second, I made a bunch of cookies. Another punishment thing. I've planted them in random locations around the dome. Good luck.

[ They can be found basically anywhere: In the pockets of clothes in The Row, in drawers in empty apartments, on the learning modules in the Education Center. If you can think of a completely ridiculous location, there is a cookie there.

They taste awful. There's a reason he made them available for general consumption instead of just giving them to his housemates. ]

[ Action 2 | Closed to housemates ]

[ After going around finding stupid hiding places for the cookies, Dirk returns to their apartment.

He sighs. He's... exhausted. He hasn't slept for days, and after the wasps and the. Everything. He could just really use some sleep. But he has to keep going for three more days.

Fuck, why did he suggest this? ]

But I only just started.

And you'd be better off expending your time and effort on a more fruitful endeavor.

I like this endeavor, but did you have a suggestion? [Smiling a bit.]

[ Shrug! ] This prison is full of entertaining projects and activities for the good little boys and girls who'd rather live out their lives in idle submission. I'm sure you can think of something.

I do a lot of those things, but a project isn't the same as a person.

[ They are in his eyes. ]

So why are you interested in me?

Is there some reason I shouldn't be?

There are plenty of people who are actually interested.

No, I mean-- interested in being convinced that this is a great place to live.

Is that what you think? I don't want to convince you of that. I know it's a prison. That doesn't mean you have to be unhappy in it.

Ah.

While I'm not happy to be here, "unhappy" implies a greater level of distress than I actually feel.

What level of distress are you at, Dirk?

That's very impressive. I'm not sure anyone else could be at such a level and be so far from home and what they know.

It wouldn't be bad to be at a higher one.

My home wasn't that great a place. I was already going to be headed somewhere new before I got sidetracked by this bullshit. So my issue isn't with the fact that I'm not at home.

I've already made myself pretty clear on the matter. I'm not okay with being trapped here.

I can understand that. You should have it. It isn't right for them to keep people here in this way, and yet I hope for more for your time here than a struggle to leave it.
