Everyone was here. Introductions had been made. Piper had been cooking since last night (which Wyatt had explained to Isabella that Piper did when she was nervous or upset) so there were snacks all over the dining room table. For the most part, the older group were the ones sitting. There weren't enough chairs for everyone. But that wasn't really a big deal. Not everyone needed to sit, and some people preferred to stand (or pace).
Isabella waited until everyone was ready before starting things. This was, after all, her case. Not to mention her being the one crossing the two cultures... although she had dressed so that it wasn't obvious. Most (if not all) of Wyatt's family knew she was pregnant. Teddy and Albus and Vic knew, but that was it for her family. And hopefully no one else would find out quite yet. "First, a couple of specialists from the Ministry are working on getting wards up at Salem's and are confident from the file I gave them on the school that they can duplicate the anti-demon wards at Hogwarts. So the kids should be able to return to Salem's on Monday if everyone is okay with that."
"Secondly we're aware now that the Death Eaters are working with the demons. We don't know why. And we don't know which ones - Death Eaters or demons. There are a couple back in London being interrogated before being thrown in prison, but they're not giving up anything." Isabella paused, but only long enough to take a breath. This was nerve wrecking! "About a month or two ago, Wyatt and I figured out that something called Maenads had killed Verity. And we went after them, but we didn't have enough intel to destroy them. When I went after Lily, the guys who had her looked human, but I don't know if they were demons or Death Eaters. So I kind of feel like we're back at square one."

Gellert was told to stay out of Europe. He was ordered to lay low. That demon, who barely looked of age, who wasn't scary at all, but who reeked with power and had brought Gellert back from the dead and had demanded allegiance for it. Gellert had complied in exchange for his life. For now.
So why was he now on the outskirts of Paris? Well, Gellert was getting a bit tired of being obedient. He had his own agenda. And Gellert's plans required his physical presence in France. With demons at his disposal, Gellert had not needed to go to Europe to call the Knights of Walpurgis (now known as Death Eaters) to him, or to obtain enough record books and history books to be one hundred percent clear on what happened with his soul was in limbo. What Gellert needed now was to pull away from this Source of All Evil.
The fact that there were so few young Death Eaters disappointed Gellert. It wasn't about war, it was about upholding the ideas. No one did that better than the Lestranges, except maybe the Malfoys. Gellert was well aware why the Malfoys were off limits. But the Lestranges were holed up in their Paris villa. Rabastan had married Lilith Moon in a very secret ceremony. Their one son took his mother's name for the obvious reasons. But the whole family was very loyal to the cause. All three of the elders were marked and came when Gellert had called. And now he had a different task.
"I want revenge."
"On who?"
"Dumbledore."
Lilith passed her husband and brother-in-law skeptical looks. Rabastan spoke up. "You do know he's been dead almost thirty years, yes?"
"Of course. I'm not going after him specifically, I'm going after his ideals." Gellert paused, letting the Lestranges consider that for a moment. "I want to ruin his golden boy."
"No one can even get to Potter, let alone take him out." Lilith had gone to school with him. She didn't deify him but she didn't underestimate him either.
"We're not going after Potter himself," Gellert grinned a sickening grin. "I want to hit him where it hurts most. I want to break him. And I need you to find his weakness for me." He paused and then his smirk grew. "And when he's broken down, we'll turn the world against him." It wasn't a very idealistic plan, but changing the world would have to wait.

By now Thezor was experienced enough to know that if you wanted something done, you had to do it yourself. He'd studied all of the past Sources and it only proved it further. And obviously he couldn't do everything himself. He had lackeys and minions for that. He'd brought wizards back from the dead for that. And they were doing well enough for the moment. But this was something he had to take care of himself. This wasn't just another job. This was family. And Thezor had to make sure to hit them where it hurt.
Shifting into human form, Julian grabbed the red hoodie he was most comfortable in. Despite being the Source of All Evil, he was still just a young guy in his twenties sometimes. He had his favorite clothes. He had his favorite places to eat. He even had a pretty nice apartment not far from his mom's loft, little did his family know. And Julian had a classic yellow and black Mustang that had cost a fortune, but he thought was totally worth it.
Julian climbed out of his car and headed to the food court. The Key, a waste of the Ultimate Power in his opinion, had just given birth a few days ago. She should be going home today. And from what Julian had seen, his eldest little sister should be in the food court in ten minutes. He knew all of the powers of his family and he knew that the ability he could manipulate the easiest in Parker was her psychometry. With the right item and a little bit of a telepathic push, his baby sister would be swimming in exactly the "vision" he wanted her to see.
He was actually giddy with excitement as he sat at a nearby table. Julian had never actual met his family face to face. This could be a lot of fun. Especially if he walked her into the trap he was hoping for. People tended to meet their destiny on the road to avoid it. Julian hoped that perhaps he was a big part of his sister's destiny.

Demon-Related Death in Diagon Alley by Rita Skeeter
Over the last few weeks there have been very weird occurrences in the Wizarding World. But none so weird as the recent death of Verity Ambrose and her family. Verity's family is from the United States. In the past week her parents, and her cousin Casta's family have all been murdered. The United States authorities are unsure of the cause of death, but I have sources in the States that state something different. All of the Ambrose family was murdered via the Killing Curse and the Dark Mark was set off above their house. On the nights in question, former Death Eaters and those incarcerated in Azkaban have all complained that their tattoos have been hurting.
The strangest part of this story, though, is not the continental placement of these deaths. Late last week, Verity Ambrose, a clerk at the Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes, was found murdered in a London alley. The blonde woman was found mangled and tortured. The markings on her body were unable to be identified by anyone. The rumors circulating point to a demon attack. Still don't believe in demons? Give it time, dear readers. It rang and few times, more than Leo would have liked considering his current state of panic, and then Piper answered, sounding a bit out of breath. Leo didn't give her a chance to say much of anything, though.]
"Piper, Elder Goodnec just came to see me. There was another murder like Casta's. Her aunt and uncle in Texas. I think we need to go check this one out, too."

Things were going exactly according to Thezor's plan. Whispers were circulating through both continents. The select few who knew what was going on were starting to form tiny drops of panic. And while this Grindelwald couldn't quite be trusted yet, he was easy enough to control. Surprise anyone with the knowledge that demons actually exist and they would fall in line with whatever side benefited them best. And Thezor knew exactly how to pull the strings so things fell in his direction this time.
It was time to take the next step. Without so much as a warning, Thezor summoned Gellert to him. His eyes flashed black for a moment. Unlike the demons in the room, Gellert did not bow. But Thezor knew he would, eventually. "I have another target for you." Thezor didn't bother with formalities. Nor did he bother to wait and see if Gellert was interested. Thezor was calling the shots here. "The rest of the Ambrose family is from the south, from Dallas. Their daughter is in London. So far they're the only connection between your world and mine. You will decimate her family and I will send my own minions after the other witch."
Gellert nodded and did not speak. It was wise on his part. He was still trying to figure the whole thing out. The last week or so had been spent catching up on what he missed. He hadn't even called Voldemort's Death Eaters, or the heirs of the Knights of Walburgis to himself yet. There was a lot more to this than what Thezor was letting on, and Gellert wanted to be prepared when the tables turned.
"I expect it done immediately."

How Far Does the Statute of Secrecy Extend? by Rita Skeeter
In the past few weeks there have been a number of unexplained deaths and disappearances. There have been confirmed cases of Death Eaters responding to the call of the mark on their arm. But this reporter has been digging deeper and deeper and there is more going on than what is on the surface. Lately there has been much going on in the Department of Mysteries. Specifically there have been a number of incidents presided over by the Unspeakables. That got this reporter questioning. Who are the Unspeakables? What do they do?
After asking around the Ministry, I still don't have any solid answers. Most of the employees at the Ministry don't even know what the Unspeakables do. The rest of them are keeping their lips zipped. The only clear answer I have been able to get has to do with the Statute of Secrecy. Ages ago, so says the Minister of Magic's official press release, when the Statute of Secrecy was put into place, the Department of Mysteries created the Unspeakables to be sure it is upheld. Well that explains a whole lot of nothing.
Fantastic sources have been comparing the Unspeakables to a government cover-up. They are hiding something that they believe is for our own good. But what? The recent attacks don't fit the profile of Death Eaters. Some theorists are whispering the word demon. What is a demon? Well if the Department of Mysteries is covering up the existence of demons I think it's our right as magical citizens to know! Salem proper was not widely known for its concentration of witches. In fact, since the witch trials, they have avoided that particular city. However, in order to hide in plain sight, the magic school was built in the middle of the city. It stands with the appearance of an abandoned but historically important court house (unavailable for tours due to unsound structure) on the outside. Through the back doors of the building, though, magic leads witches and their families into Salem's Witches Institute. Over the years a few witches here and there made their home in Salem and the surrounding areas, mostly teachers and school staff. But for the most part Salem is a fairly mortal town.
So no one ever expected demons to attack Salem. Anyone living in Salem just assumed they were safe. But they were wrong. Casta Ambrose, teaching assistant for Salem Institute's transfiguration class, was at home with her family when the attack happened. Casta's family as far back as anyone knew were just mortals. When Casta and her cousin Verity, barely a year apart, were both born with magical abilities, the family went into an uproar. Her aunt and uncle from Texas refused to acknowledge it, going so far as to try and have Verity excised. Casta's family were supportive, even taking Verity in during the summers when school was out. Verity left for England a few years after her graduation in 1997, just in time for the tail end of the battle there.
Casta knew virtually nothing about that war. So when Death Eaters burst through her door, killing her family and torturing her nearly to death, she was in shock. The last thing Casta remembered before passing out was some kind of incantation and a green smoky symbol above her house. A skull with a snake through it.
The Elders sent Leo to the Charmed Ones with the news that a teacher had been attacked. Chris overheard the conversation and offered himself. He and Bianca orbed to Salem to investigate. Little did they know that they weren't the only witches to overhear the conversation. Soon after they returned, they were bombarded by questions from all of his siblings and cousins.

A paper airplane flies into Leo's office at Magic School and lands on top of a stack of papers on his desk. When he enters, it flies around his head until he opens it. The paper is a letter from one of the School's Teaching Assistants.
Headmaster Wyatt,
Normally I would ignore such rumors, but I fear that I can no longer. I have a cousin in England who used to attend Hogwarts. I know, most people on either side don't believe the other is real. The Elders have talked to our family and we're aware of the Statute of Secrecy. But I can't keep this to myself any longer. My cousin Verity believes that the small string of attacks in London are demons even though no one else over there believes they exist. The rumors here, I'm sure you know, are that there is a new Source taking power. I think, and please tell me if I'm over-reacting, that the two situations are connected. Verity and I would both feel a lot safer if you could possibly mention this to the Charmed Ones. Thank you so much. You know where to find me if you want to talk further or get a hold of Verity.

I'm sorry to bother you, but something important has come up and I'm not sure if anyone else would inform you. I am a former Death Eater, given the mark against my will. After the death of You-Know-Who the mark turned into little more than a scar. But suddenly last night about three in the morning it started itching something fierce. I got out of bed to find out what was wrong and the scar had turned back into the mark. About an hour later I felt the worst burning I can remember. I did not go. I think You-Know-Who is back. I'm sure you understand my reluctance to include my name with this owl.

WHAT: Thezor begins his reign.

The plan, according to his Seer, was for Thezor to take power on his 25th birthday. Well, he was a few years shy of that. But Thezor wasn't really the kind to wait patiently for some crackpot prophecy to come to fruition. If Thezor wanted something, he took it. And considering his birthright, it wasn't hard. Since he was a child he was able to incinerate those who infuriated him, to electrocute ignorance, to strike fear into the hearts of anyone who dared cross him with little more than a blink of his eyes. Okay... so it was a little more than that. Thezor's eyes, as all the Sources' before him, bled pure black when he threw his weight around. Having inherited the Source's power at conception, Thezor was no newbie to his abilities.
That's why the most recent in his Seer caretakers was now a pile of ash at his feet. The warlocks at his disposal and the demons with power over time and death were all waiting on bended knee for his command. Thezor had called them all to him, despite the Seer's warnings, no more than an hour ago. And now it was time for Thezor to take the first step, the step he had been planning for years.
"You're all in agreement? This British Wizard is the one? This Gellert Grindelwald?" The demons all nodded in agreement. Thezor waved a hand at a table where paperwork, a wand, a few other magical items were strewn. Above the mess a small series of holographic images of Gellert appeared. Thezor looked them over. He'd read the papers, he'd studied this wizard's history. There were a few mortals he would have chosen over him, but of the magical beings and the connections between mortal and magical, this Gellert was the best.
"Bones and soul." He ordered. The items were brought before him and Thezor examined them. The soul, as with most souls this evil, had been kept in a crystal and saved in the Underworld for just such a situation. Thezor dumped the wand and other items on top of the bones. He dropped the soul crystal on top of it last. And then he chanted. It was nearly five minutes of chanting before the body was whole and Gellert awoke.
Once the wizard was coherent, Thezor wasted no time dropping the mother of all surprises on him. "I am Thezor, the Source of All Evil. You know of me, no doubt." Wizards, at one point, were aware of the existence of demons. Maybe this one knew. Thezor didn't wait to find out. "I've given you new life to continue your plans. All I ask in return is that you answer to me. You will bring the Death Eaters, your Knights of Walpurgis, to San Francisco and Salem. In return, I will send my demons to England to herald your return. You don't need to know anything else for now. You have one week to accomplish this. If you fail, the limbo your soul remained in for the past twenty years will be nothing compared to the eternity of hell experienced by those who betray the Source."
