Whenever there was any reason at all, the house was decked out for a party, and Bucky's birthday was a great reason. True to his tastes things were obnoxiously decorated and there was enough food to feed a couple of armies spread around, both inside and out. Everything from the usual party fare to a few dishes of questionable recipes that Steve had assured were 1930s accurate, something he and Bucky had eaten regularly when they were young.

As usual, the backyard had been turned into a bonfire, chasing off the end of winter chill and providing a place for people to roast marshmallows if they were so inclined. There was plenty of seating out there, too.

Music curated by teenagers played throughout the house, quietly enough not to be obnoxious but enough to heard no matter where someone went. Centre of attention on the kitchen table was an enormous cake with 'HAPPY 101ST' scrawled across the icing.

	"'mellow," Steph repeated, attempting to say marshmallow as she held out her hand. Because, yes, of course she wanted one. It was sticky and sweet and she was a few months shy of turning two. 	"Close enough," Isak shrugged. He wasn't a fan of kids but he had to admit, this one was kind of cute. Since he was done roasting the marshmallow, he decided to give it to her. After making sure it was cool enough, he took it off the stick and handed it to her. Hopefully her parents wouldn't mind that he was giving her sweets. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Steph took the marshmallow and squeezed it in her hand, giggling at how it squished, before shoving it in her mouth.

Lucky for Isak, that was about when Darcy came looking for her wayward daughter. "Stephanie Jo, what are you doing?" she asked, jogging across the lawn when she realized how close the toddler was to the fire.

"'Mellow!" she said, holding up one sticky hand with a grin on her face.

Darcy sighed and gave an apologetic look to the teenager who was apparently entertaining her child. "Sorry she was bothering you."

	"Wait, that's not- nevermind," Isak sighed and shook his head before he grabbed another marshmallow to roast. Just then he heard a voice and a woman coming towards them. He guessed this was the mother and he was right. "It's fine, she wasn't bothering me," he said to Darcy. "I probably shouldn't have given her the marshmallow though and gotten her all sticky." "Don't worry about," Darcy assured him, dodging her daughter's touch so she didn't also end up a sticky mess. "I'm used to it. She mooches off of everyone and toddlers are always sticky." It was just her life these days. Which, if someone had told her four years ago would be her life, she would have laughed her ass off. It wasn't so bad though.

She sat down in one of the chairs that was set up near the fire. "I'm Darcy. She's Stephanie."

	"Isak," he replied with a nod, while taking the marshmallow out the flame before putting it back in because it wasn't roasted quite enough for him. "And yeah, I've never met a toddler who wasn't sticky." Not that he'd met many, but still. He did know toddlers were pretty messy. And that they cried a lot. 	Steph was pretty content to continue making herself a mess with her marshmallow, so Darcy figured she could take a few minutes to sit and chat. "You friends with the birthday boy?" she asked. 	"Moreso for the free food," Isak shrugged. He didn't see a reason to lie, so he told the truth. Besides, it was an open invitation, so anyone was welcomed. 	"Oh, I'm really good friends with Bucky and Steve," Darcy said. "In fact, that little one is named after Steve." Stephanie had finished her marshmallow, or dropped it, Darcy wasn't sure which, but she was playing in the dirt now and it was sticking to her hands and face. 	Darcy laughed. "No, Steve is definitely not this messy. At least not that I've seen." Maybe he was secretly messy in some way that she hadn't discovered though.
