That's human nature. You're doing the same thing the boy was doing. 'This is an emotional issue and therefore I'm not thinking clearly.' Anger for you, and trauma for him.

No. I'm thinking clearly and I know how I'm going to vote if we have elections because it's the right thing to do.

My parents raised me to always do the right and just thing. I just... I don't understand a lot of things that are going on right now.

I have no problem admitting that I don't understand why people are for some rights and against others.

Oh don't make this a discussion of morals and ethics. That doesn't mean anything because we don't all share them. In fact, that's the problem.

Wouldn't all of this be easier if we just stood together instead of letting so many things divide us?

As you make Georgia Mason a problem but don't find it troubling that a man willingly admits he doesn't want to speak to ordinaries.

God you all contradict yourselves so stupidly.

Do you support each other or do you hate each other? Pick a side.

Have you ever been angry or confused or downright frightened?

That's a stupid question.

Perhaps it was, perhaps not. I know plenty of people who would have answered no to those questions.

Look, I don't know how everyone else's world is, I admit that. I just know that maybe if we all hadn't been so open about who we are, maybe the ban wouldn't have happened. I don't know.

I just know that in my world, there was a reason that a lot of people hid who they were for so long -- because it led to fear and attacks on witches and wizards.

That's why it's a stupid question. Obviously people have emotions.

And some people value honesty. Knowledge breaks the chains of idiocy, slavery, and fear.

I'm a firm believer in knowledge and learning as much as you can. However, I won't lie and say that I'm not worried about the future of some of us in this place.

Ye gods another contradiction! You want to learn and gain knowledge but hide knowledge of yourself and your abilities from others.

It's only okay when you do it, of course. That's the selfishness you were getting at just a few responses ago.

'I think it quite telling that some seem to only want to speak up for things that affect them.'

You're twisting all of my words around to suit you. I've already said that I know where I stand and how I'd vote. I already said that defending everyone's rights were the right thing to do.

Why is it wrong that I'm frightened of what might happen and wish I had been better at hiding that I have magic? Because I said that in my world we tended to hide things like that? Because there are lists and volumes of examples of what happened to people when the secrecy wasn't kept? Because I wanted to feel safe and not be threatened?

I'm using things you said to show you how stupid you are. The current discussion has nothing to do with votes or 'doing the right thing.'

I didn't say it was wrong. Yes, tragedy, woe. They burned us too, long ago, when 'magic' was more free. The way to make them unafraid is to show them you won't harm them. Standing passively behind screens and glamors doesn't alleviate fear. It perpetuates mystery and mystery creates fear.

Caution is good in a practitioner, fear is not.
