Belated Lunch Date
Who: Charly Burke and Nancy Drew
What: A Long-Delayed Lunch Date
When: Saturday noonish
Where: Red Pepper Cafe
Warnings: Probably None
Status: Incomplete
Charly smiled and thanked the server as she took her seat. It was a small table for two near the window, giving her a view of the snow-dusted scenery outside. Nancy hadn't arrived yet, which gave Charly time to remove her gloves and coat, and study the menu. She already knew they had plenty of vegetarian options--that's why she'd picked the location--but she still needed to decide what she wanted for lunch.
She was a little anxious about the lunch date. Since meeting Agnes Jurati and discovering that they were both from about four centuries in the future, she'd done a lot of thinking about the self-imposed rules she was living under. She wasn't about to revisit her vegetarianism--the thought of eating the flesh of animals was still appalling. But the more she thought about it, the more she concluded that there was no harm in relaxing her vigilance about keeping her origin secret.
Madison Valley was an anomaly. Nothing that happened here could--as far as she could tell--really affect things elsewhere. People who had returned after going home often reported not even remembering their previous experiences in Madison, and those that did didn't report that it made any material difference to their lives. The flow of information seemed to go in only one direction, like a black hole.
She still wasn't going to divulge historical information about, or scientific advances from, her future. But admitting that she was here from the future? Well, she was hardly the only one, even if few came from as far as she did. She wasn't certain that she'd tell Nancy all this.
But she might. And it made her nervous to contemplate it.
