"I can see that," Charly said. "Journalism would suit you. If that's what you want to do, then I fully support you."
Charly knew Ace. Not well. She'd really only met him that one time when they had the movie marathon at Gordon's place. But that was enough for her to know that Nancy had feelings for him, and he for her. Neither of them seemed willing to act on them--or maybe even just acknowledge them, and she wasn't sure why. But it also wasn't her business.
"Rules...for time travelers," Charly said after a last pause to reconsider her decision. "I was born in Texas--I don't remember if I've told you that, but I was. Or will be, in about four hundred years."
"Time travel isn't unknown in my time, though it's very rare. But there are laws about it, strict laws with severe penalties. If you wind up in the past, you're supposed to do your very best to stay out of sight and don't risk changing anything. And I've been doing that."
"But...I've concluded recently that Madison Valley is an anomaly. It's like a black hole. Information only goes one way, so nothing I do here can change...anything, really. So maybe I don't have to be quite so paranoid about altering history."
