My holiday was actually pretty uneventful. Of course, that's mostly because I worked so a couple of my coworkers could spend time with loved ones.

Best part? Christmas-related injuries were at a minimum.

I must admit, our dinner was wonderful, even if we did have it at the clinic. Perhaps next year we could aim for a restaurant or nice dinner at home.

I do appreciate you being understanding of my having to work.

Anyone who would not be is rather heartless, and we know I am not that.

All the same, thank you.

You're very welcome. Now, join me for dinner tonight? Outside of the clinic.

How many Christmas-related injuries usually happen?

Here, I'm not sure. But in general, Christmas is a rather accident-prone holiday.

It's my first Christmas here, so I have no idea. Back home, I just have to worry about lemon bombs and maybe a few curses.

That doesn't sound great, either.

At least the curse one only happens once in awhile. The lemon bombs are more of an all year round thing.

Minimal injuries is a good Christmas goal.

Usually the Christmas injuries I see are a bit more... permanent, the joys of being a medical examiner back home. I vastly prefer anything I see here.

Oh yeah that's.. Yeah this place usually has less of those

Which makes this pretty much my favorite place at the moment.

Not sure I really want to know, but...what are Christmas-related injuries?

They generally end up being people doing stupid things at Christmas. When I was first working as a doctor in an ER, we had a guy come through who'd stabbed himself with a screwdriver while trying to put together the bookcase he'd gotten a family member for Christmas.

That was one of the more normal ones.

Oh.

Crazy people. Or, rather, normal people. Crazy normal people doing stupid things?

What about drinking too much egg nog? Or getting crushed by Christmas trees?

...why did you have to work on the holidays?

That seems unfair.

Well, I didn't have to. But my boss has a little girl he wanted to spend the day with.

Plus I work at the clinic, it's not like we close.

Ah, I see. Then you are a medic. I suppose you can't take time off.

It's only fair to cover for the others sometimes -- we all do it for each other.

And people are not polite enough to only get sick during work days.
