[Open Arms 'Verse] Scene + Phone Call - Simon Knows Best

“How come you haven’t called Mr. Blaine yet?” Simon wanted to know. It had been two weeks since he’d been discharged from the hospital, and he knew his father had the other man’s telephone number. He knew his father wanted to call that telephone number. But he hadn’t yet. Simon just wanted to know why. “You miss him. I can tell.”

Kurt paused and looked up from cutting the crusts off of Simon’s pb&j. His son was entirely too perceptive. “How can you tell?”

“You get this funny look on your face when I talk about him,” Simon countered, popping a potato chip in his mouth, trying to speak and chew at the same time. “An’ shumtms joo go...” He paused and swallowed before heaving a dramatic sigh, resting his chin in his hand with an exaggerated, pouty frown. “Like that.”

“I do not.”

(open arms 'verse) the beginning.

"Patient is a six year male involved in MVA, multiple fractures and crush injuries. Just medevaced in from Stamford Hospital. Received two units of blood in transit, condition is currently stable."

The Yale-New Haven Hospital Pediatric Intensive Car Unit was a flurry of motion as their prepared for the incoming transfer - giving the nurses report, paging the pediatric surgeon on call. When dealing with children in major traumas, conditions could change at any moment. But dealing with the parents had to be the worst part. Blaine had never gotten used to the looks, the screams. In the past few years of working on the unit, he had met countless families on the worst day of their lives.

It wasn't that Blaine hadn't looked at the patient's chart before following Dr. Parks into the waiting room. He most certainly had. Unfortunately, he had only been looking at the patient's condition. Just the facts, nothing personal. Getting personal hurts - he had learned that the hard way in the beginning of his career.

"Mr. Hummel, would please come with us? My name is Dr. Samantha Parks, and this is my PA, Blaine Thompson."

[Open Arms 'Verse] Simon & Kurt - Home At Last

Kurt stretched full length on the bed and closed his eyes with a tired sigh. He was exhausted. Mentally, physically, and emotionally worn out. The past few weeks had been something of a roller coaster and he was just glad, now that Simon was home, he was able to get off of it.

He felt a small finger poke his side and let out a gruff, noncommittal grunt to acknowledge the gesture. “Daddy,” Simon whispered, laying next to his father and eying him with concern, “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing, buddy.” Kurt murmured, reaching out blindly to wrap an arm around his son and pull him closer, yawning widely. “Daddy’s just tired.”

“Okay,” Simon nodded, settling into his father’s side and reaching up to brush Kurt’s hair back from his face, as though the roles had been reversed and the six year old was now the caretaker. “We can take a nap.”

Truth be told he was a little tired himself. It had been kind of a big day, what with the excitement of being discharged from the hospital and the long car ride home (made even longer by how slowly Kurt had driven, especially wary of any potential danger on the roads). Sitting in bed with his dad and having a little sleep sounded like a very good idea. And then maybe when they woke up Daddy would make him a grilled cheese sandwich with the crusts cut off and they could watch cartoons. He’d missed that.

“Thanks, bud,” Kurt smiled, ruffling Simon’s hair and shifting to get more comfortable. It was amazing to be on a real bed again. He was pretty sure, if left to his own devices, he’d be capable of sleeping for days at this point.

“Daddy?” Simon whispered in sleepy tones, several minutes later.

“Mmm?”

“I’m glad we’re home.”

“Me too, buddy.” Kurt pressed a clumsy kiss to his son’s hair. “Me too.”

“Love you.”

“Love you, too.”

“You can go to sleep now.”

“Okay.” He smiled softly and listened to the steady sounds of Simon breathing, both of them slowly sinking into a comfortable slumber.

(open arms 'verse) - meet simon hummel

A little snippet of a new 'verse I'm working on with [info]gangway_world. Loosely based off Come Back and the LLG Canon.

Daddy says sometimes boys kiss like mommies and daddies do and there’s nothing wrong with it or them. )
