Green splashed across the canvas as Mina flicked the brush in light dainty strokes. She could see the picture start to take form now, and she was pleased with herself. It was a valley she had seen in a dream years ago. Light shades of white and blue meshed to together in the shape of a waterfall, and it cascaded into a shallow pool of water at the base of some green glade. It was lovely, yet incomplete. Mina had spent the last half hour contemplating what would make it perfect and now she stared at the artwork with a combination of frustration and defiance. Finally when she was unable to do anything more with it, Mina gave up and decided that it was time that she stop for the night.
She walked past the large mirror in the hallway that led to her bedroom and sighed in discontent. she had gotten paint everywhere and was a walking palette. After taking a shower and making sure she had gotten every scrap of paint out of her hair, she threw on some clothes, and headed out onto her balcony.
The last rays of sunlight were just sinking and the smooth crisp darkness of night was setting in. Mina felt at peace, an unusual feeling and it was astounding. No more running around on a wild goose chase. No more looking over her shoulder, hoping that she hadn't accidental run by a stray hunter. It was just her. She felt liberated and saddened at the same time. She didn't miss only staying in one place for a few weeks, but she did miss the purpose that had caused her every action before this.
While she was musing these things, Mina thought she heard something odd. She looked around and there was nothing unusual. Then it came to her, footsteps. She was unused to having neighbors on her floor. She shook her head and waited for them to either fade but they didn't, they came closer. She sat there confused as she waited to see what will happen next.
