I'm so gangsta you can find me baking cookies at night
Who: Chance and Billie
What: Job hunting!
When: Morning
Where: Sunny's Diner
Chance sat at the counter next to Roy. He was a trucker and a regular. He was fun to hear talk about his strange adventures on the road but he was a straight-up vanilla human and Chance was really not in Scarlet Oak to have conversations about that. Nevertheless, after getting beamed with the ceiling fan, tripping down the stairs and Aunt Sunny accidentally splitting her lip open with the door, Chance was glad for some calmness and normality. Facing the door in case anyone came in, she kept one ear trained to listen to Roy's story about the time he picked some hot chick up at a gas station only to realize that she was some murdering psycho. "Uh-huh," Chance nodded as she sipped the coffee in between her hands. The best part about having been left in charge of the diner by Aunt Sunny was that she could sit down and rest up even if she was sure it was illegal to have her in here after her accident.
"What happened to you anyway?" Roy asked, looking at Chance's bandaged head.
"Ceiling fan in my aunt's house fell on my head."
"Does that happen often?"
"Nope," she responded, resisting the temptation to touch the top of her head. She had already learned that doing that made her brain feel like it was going to tear in two. And she wasn't in the mood. She had a full diner to serve and while no one seemed to be raising their hand at the moment, she was sure that something was bound to happen at some point and she'd have to limp over there to take care of it. Unless Gertrude was actually feeling benevolent this morning. Which was unlikely because the woman still hated Chance with a deep passion. And Aunt Sunny had shook her head at raises for either Gertrude or Ethel until it was scheduled, which wasn't for another four months. Chance took a sip of the black coffee in her mug and made a face. She didn't like her coffee black but it helped with the headache.
