Ain't No Skat Kat Here
Who: Brady and Hannah
Where: The Liberty Inn
When: Friday afternoon, lunchtime-ish.
Appointments had become a way of Brady’s life in the short time that he had been running the Inn. Some of them weren’t even really planned. There were people who came up looking for jobs. Word of mouth got around Scarlet Oak fast. Given the size, it wasn’t unexpected. And, given the economy, the turnout wasn’t either. But there was only so much that a person could do, even one who wanted nothing more than to help just about everyone who came looking for a job.
And then there were the planned appointments. That was the way that a true manager should have operated. Too bad he didn’t feel like one just yet. The Inn was a family business, but he wasn’t the owner. That title still belonged firmly to his grandfather, who wasn’t going to relinquish the deed any time soon. Just as well… Brady wasn’t even really prepared to be a manager, why would he be ready to be a business owner?
One of the easiest ways to tell just how much of a rookie he was at the craft was his reliance on other people. Like the interior decorator that he was meeting with to see if she could spruce up the place while keeping the spirit that Ellen had worked so hard to portray intact. It was something that could prove to be quite the uphill climb because, well, he didn’t want to change that much.
Brady was at the front desk, looking over some of the applications that had been turned in. So many of them said that they would take any position offered. God, he hated being the one who had to make a decision like that.
