Who: Blake and Jackson
Where: Lake Higgins and beyond
When: Around noon
Three hours. Maybe not exactly. A little under, a little over, Jack wasn’t too sure. That was the easiest amount to round up, though. Three hours alone in a car. Since he was in college now, Jack wasn’t a stranger to being alone in the car. But given the proximity between Scarlet Oak and the University of Michigan, which were pretty much the only places that Jackson frequented, there wasn’t a lot of time for Jack to be alone. This was different. This was a long trip. A long trip where he was all by himself. And Jackson Lowell realized that he did not enjoy the long trips alone. Sure, he had his MP3 player plugged in to the tape deck, blasting a hodgepodge of video game music into the car.
Maybe it was a little bit faster than it would have been otherwise. After all, aside from a necessary stop about a hundred miles in to gas up, Jackson hadn’t stopped. His attentions were solely on making sure that Blake was going to be all right. It wasn’t like he believed Blake was in any sort of mortal peril. But he was in pain. Emotional pain. And Blake, ever sensitive Blake, was far more vulnerable to such pains than any of the rest of them. Jackson, for example, had yet to have his heart ripped apart into many pieces. Hopefully, he never would.
Finally, he saw that he was at Lake Higgins. Jack let out a loud sigh of relief and pulled over for a moment. The blond pulled out his cell phone and texted his brother. The message was simple.
“I’m at the Lake. Where are you?”
