If there's one thing I've learned, you'll always get burned
Who: Simon and Lux (and Simon's familiar Charmander, NPC)
Where: Cosmic Comics
When: Early afternoon

This was the first time since opening Cosmic Comics when Simon could remember actually closing the place for this long. Even in the wake of the vampire bullshit a little while back, he'd closed the shop for the night, but left it open during the day, in spite of the lack of business. Now it had actually been closed for a full three days, and there was a bunch of shipment to put away, not to mention paperwork and other crap. He could have called someone in to help, but he knew at least some of his employees, Frances included, were still healing up, and didn't want to push anyone into working before they were ready. Granted, it wasn't like Simon himself was quite up to par, seeing as he was probably not supposed to lifting things with his injured ribs, but he was not sitting around his apartment another day. Well... he could. He did have enough weed. But if he couldn't go get his daughter until Friday, then fuck it, to work it was.

Cue Lux texting him. His door was always open to her and while Simon was still figuring out how he felt about his two best friends hooking up, nothing was ever going to change that. He just didn't want to end up being the perpetual third wheel now, if only because he knew how shitty his current love life was, thank you very much. If Lux didn't want to talk about that, then Simon didn't know what was up, but that wouldn't stop him from being there regardless. Seriously, he'd known her for how long now? It wasn't like anything she had to tell him was going to make him flinch. Right now the only company Simon had was Charmander, the salamander hanging out on one of the shelves behind the cash register. Whatcha doin'?

Simon rolled his eyes. "Working." He reached up to poke his familiar in the belly. "I'd make you help if you had thumbs."

I'm too little to do anything. I win! There was a knock at the front door, and Simon glanced up to see Lux waiting. Oh yay! Company!

At least Charmander was easily entertained... and didn't take it personally whenever Simon laughed at his name, which was often. Unlocking the door, Simon waved Lux in. "Come on in, it's shitty out there."

Lux had known the full moon was coming for days now, but it had been the little biting incident with Troy that made up her mind. She had to tell someone about her problem, she had to get help and stop herself from killing anybody by accident; the first person that came to mind was Simon, of course. He had been best friend for years now, and they were at the point where nothing was taboo and they were always there for each other. But this...this was different. Accepting though she knew he was, Lux was still nervous about Simon's reaction. However, she had faith in him, and in their friendship. He would understand, and he would help.

The rain seemed to only complement Lux's slightly bad mood at the task in hand, although at least it wasn't cold too. She could take a little rain. Or, you know, heavy doses of it, apparently. When she got to the shop's door she was dripping wet and feeling very lucky that she had at least been wearing rain boots and a raincoat even if she had forgotten an umbrella.

When Simon waved her in Lux rushed inside, pulling her hair off her back so the little droplets of rain wouldn't run down her back. "Hiii. God, if I had passed by an old man building an arch I wouldn't have blinked." She took off her raincoat, trying very hard not to shake her head from side to side to lose some water from her hair. "Where can I put this and do you have a towel or something I can dry my hair with? Because otherwise I'll just be dripping on everything."

He held the door open for Lux to rush in, because seriously, he wouldn't be surprised if it was the Great Flood going on out there. Not that Simon spent a lot of time outside, just on principle. The only tan he ever had was thanks to good genes, he was a nerd kid through and through and he was pale enough to prove it, even before he had Cosmic Comics. "Come on, I've got a coatrack in the office. And maybe a towel too." He led her back to said office, which was as nerdy as the rest of the comic book store. Why yes, Simon did have a few video game figurines on his desk, along with a lot of papers and things to be organized. That was also part of that day's project, considering that he wasn't very good at it most days. He was smart, but he wasn't a miracle worker.

It took him a minute of searching, but finally he came up with an old t-shirt advertising the store. "Hey, it's not a towel, but it'll work," he said, tossing it to Lux. "Not like I care what happens to it. I might have a spare beanie kicking around in case you're worried about what your hair looks like." Simon stopped giving a shit about his hair in high school. Why yes, it was still sticking straight out on end, and that was without the assistance of hair gel, too. At least he'd embraced it instead of trying to fix it all the time. "So what's up?"

Lux needs to say hi to me, that's what's up!

Simon laughed. "Also, Charmander's here." Charmander. His fucking familiar had the same name as a Pokemon. You couldn't make this shit up.

Nodding, Lux followed Simon to the office, admiring the figurines on his desk as she shrugged out of her coat. She hung it on the rack and took the t-shirt, wrapping it around her head immediately. "Yeah it'll do." She started soaking up the t-shirt in the excess water from her hair, though she had to stop and actually chuckle out loud when Simon mentioned her worrying about what her hair looked like. "Dude, I have scars on my face. My hair is so not on the radar anymore." Still, she supposed she might frighten the customers if she looked like a victim of electrical shock, so she tried to smooth it over.

Once she was done Lux just left the t-shirt wherever it wouldn't damage any papers. Simon had gone straight to the million dollar question, and Lux shoved her hands inside her pockets. "Well, uh..." And then, she was momentarily saved by the salamander! Grinning, Lux turned around to look at Simon's cute little familiar. "Sorry Charmander, you should have made your presence noticed before, I didn't see you! Hi!" She tried not to make fun of his name to his face, but it was still hilarious. It would probably never stop being hilarious.

After that little interruption, however, Lux was left with a curious Simon and a conversation that she'd been the one to ask for. She cleared her throat and sighed, thinking of the best way to give the news. Avoiding it seemed to be the best course of action. "Okay you're the most intelligent person I know. I'm going to state two facts, in sequence, and you're going to see why they're related and then you'll figure out what I need to tell you but am too chickenshit to actually, you know, say." She looked up at Simon. "Here goes: I was bitten by a cougar months ago. And... the full moon is in four days." There it was. She'd said it without really saying it, and now Lux was standing there expectantly.

The fact that Lux was scarred really never fazed Simon. Yes, she looked a little different than she had prior to the attack, but it hadn't changed who she was, and that was more important to him. She was still Lux, his best friend, and if she needed a little more support in the wake of everything that happened, she'd have it. Simple as that, really. "Just sayin', anything of mine is yours, you know that. Right down to my booze and my drugs." Neither of which were here, for the record. Simon might be a stoner, but he wasn't stupid. The masters degree gathering dust in his closet proved that much.

Of course, Charmander was something of an attention whore, and Simon was learning more about the little bitty ever since he got him. He also wondered if Charmander was done growing, because if he got bigger, Simon was going to start calling him Charizard. For the record. Oh hi Lux! The salamander made his way to the edge of the shelf so he could sniff at her. Been while since I've seen you, I miss you!

Simon sighed, about to say something about Charmander hogging the spotlight - and then Lux was talking about something else. Why she was here, apparently. She was right when she said Simon was intelligent, and having been open about his supernatural abilities for a while now, especially with his friends, he wasn't surprised at what was out there. Hearing the words "bitten by a cougar" and then "full moon," it didn't take him long to put it together. "A were," he said, nodding as he thought about it. Lux had changed since she'd been bitten, all consistent with being turned. Granted, he didn't know much about weres, but he'd learn. Some of those studying abilities still had to be locked away inside his head somewhere. "So... cougar? Or did you take another feline form?" He paused for a moment, reaching over for her hand. "You know, you could have told me sooner, I promise you, this changes nothing between us."

With a chuckle, Lux patted Simon in the back. "That's how I know you're a true friend; shitty friends don't share the good stuff." She did not ask if he had any of it here, obviously. Firstly because she knew him well enough to know the answer, and secondly because she was still a cop; it wasn't nice to get high at a comic book shop or anywhere this public. Lux giggled slightly as Charmander sniffed at her, and she poked him softly. "Awww you're a sweetie. I've missed you too!" She hadn't, really, but why would she want to hurt the poor little salamander with the truth?

While Simon made the connection - which did not take any time at all, as expected - Lux's eyes were wide and her heart was racing. There was always the fear that he would look at her differently once he knew. "Um...I didn't really look myself in the mirror, but I think so, yeah." She let Simon take her hand as she gave him a nervous smile. "It hasn't been easy to live with, you know? I felt like I had to sort it out in my head before I told anyone. And to tell you the truth I'm scared shitless. I mean, I'm a fucking monster." But apparently a monster who still had friends. Lux sighed in relief, nodding. "Thanks. I don't wanna dump this on you and then immediately ask you for help, but last time I trashed my dad's house and God knows what else I did, and I don't want that to happen again. But a cage big enough for whatever monstrosity I turn into doesn't fit in my apartment. And that's why I need your help. I need you to be a genius and help me come up with something." Something that meant she wouldn't be murdering people through town or in the woods or wherever she ran off to. "Oh and the police station is out of the question. It's bad enough that they know I have PTSD, I don't want them to know about this too."
