WHO: The Doctor and Rose
WHAT: Exploring the amusement park
WHEN: Day Seven, early evening
WHERE: The amusement park...duh!
RATING: TBA
STATUS: Incomplete

Okay, so an amusement park wasn't exactly the best place to take the girl you fancied, particularly when she didn't know that you fancied her, but it was all the Doctor had to work with. And besides, it was sort of them. At least, it held the possibility of something going wrong, at any rate. Right?

The Doctor bounced around outside the TARDIS, the same as he had countless times before, waiting around for Rose to finish getting dressed. He was in his standard, a pinstripe suit and trainers, but he'd left the tie behind, unbuttoning the first button or two of his button down, going for a more casual look. That, and if he was going to get soaked, he'd might as well.

"Come on, Rose!" he hollered, banging on the door of the TARDIS, rolling his eyes. "There's no alien invasion, no race to be saved, no screaming...At least let me have the amusement park!"

Was it her fault the TARDIS offered hundreds if not thousands of options for a girl to wear? If she'd thought, even for a moment, that the closet in her room in the dorms was impressive, she was corrected immediately as she stood surrounded by clothing from centuries and planets she'd only dreamed of visiting. And if she'd doubted for a moment that the TARDIS was female, the fact that she put the perfect carnival-going outfit in front of her.

In some ways, Rose was a little anxious about the evening. It wasn't a date, of course, because it was him and that just wasn't how they worked. But it was the first time they'd truly gone out and done something together since she'd discovered him at that ball and... Well, it was a bit much was all. It was like the old days of crashing historical parties or accidentally showing up at some intergalactic event. And the memory had her beaming as she flung open the door, nearly beaning him in the head with it as she stepped outside. "Not everyone can look as naturally adorable as you," she told him, tweaking him under the chin before twirling for inspection. Simple but flattering denims, the softest jumper she'd ever worn, and the cutest boots possible now fit her figure much better than the sweat suit she'd been hanging around in all day.

"And there is too screaming." Pausing, she listened and grinned. "Sounds like that awful spinning ride where it's pretty much just G Force holding you in. Brilliant. Shareen once made herself so sick on that thing that she wouldn't let us drag her back on for a year!" Wrapping her arm through his, she grinned up at him. "Ready when you are, sir."

The Doctor pulled his head sharply back when Rose came careening out of the TARDIS, and put his hands out to catch her if need be, though she seemed steady enough. Just her normal, spunky self, who he was starting to get used to having around again. Not that it was a trial at all, but it had been a long time, for him, since she'd been around in any sort of real capacity.

"You look lovely," he praised, grinning down at her and covering her hand through his as she hung on his arm, just as she'd used to. It hurt his heart to think of the past, but the Doctor had made a decision about the future. It was his. He was stuck here, and damn it, he was going to take advantage of his stationary life, at least once. And that once, as far as he was concerned, was given up entirely to Rose.

The Doctor made a face as he heard what she was talking about. "That doesn't count and you bloody well know it," he laughed, shaking his head at her. "Been to the year five-billion, halfway around the universe, and a G-force machine gets her excited," he sighed, clicking his tongue as he started to lead her toward the carnival.

"So what first, Miss Tyler?" he asked with a grin. "Food, rides, games?" he prodded. This was about her, and he was doing his best to make that clear.

Resting her cheek against his arm, Rose surveyed the area. She'd have practically beamed if she'd heard him say she was being her normal, spunky self. Not because he'd noticed, but because it meant she really was acting more like herself lately. Which she probably should've found disturbing. It took being kidnapped to some strange planet to find her old self but... As cliche as it sounded, her old self had been left behind at Canary Wharf. And now? Well, perhaps she'd found her.

"I never said I didn't get excited by the year five-billion, thank you. Or, you know, black holes and getting my face sucked off...well, that wasn't exactly exciting, but you know what I mean!" She poked her tongue out at him before pulling his elbow in the direction of the bumper cars. "I just happen to think fighting to keep your lunch down is a brilliant example of how you should spend your day."

She didn't even bother telling him where they were headed. If the squeal of brakes and bursts of laughter weren't enough for him, he'd figure it out soon enough.

"Yeah, but looking back on it...No wait," the Doctor frowned, remembering seeing Rose all blank and unresponsive. "Never mind, still not anything good," he admitted, shaking his head and dislodging his arm from her grasp to put it around her shoulders, tucking her next to his side where she was safe. He wasn't going to lose her again, if it killed him.

The Doctor laughed at her perfect day scenario and grinned. "I think we've done that once or twice," he deadpanned. Looking ahead in their path, the Doctor groaned. Bumper cars. And from the looks of them, they appeared to be made for midgets. Or at least, not Time Lords with legs. "You are evil," he complained, but went on with her anyway.

It was just as bad as he'd expected. Getting into one of the cars was like trying to fit in a shoe box, and the Doctor's knees were up around his ears, but he managed it. "You're finished, Tyler!" he hollered across the range, aiming his car for the front of hers.

"Yeah, with your flying," Rose commented slyly at his comment about keeping their lunch down. She was mostly teasing, of course. But it was true that the TARDIS was meant to be flown by more than one person, and she could hardly blame him for the occasional rough landing. To show she was teasing, she pulled away and winked over her shoulder at him, rushing ahead to get her beloved red car.

She'd get slammed around in those cars for days for the reward of seeing her Doctor, all arms and legs in this form as he was, folded up like one of her old Barbie dolls in one of Tony's Matchbox cars. She grinned over at him, slamming on the pedal of her car and aiming it straight at him. Squealing as the two collided, she turned as quickly as the tiny car would let her and attempted to get away.

"Come on, wuss, you've got better than that, don't you?" Rose's grin was wide, and she was glad she'd come along. Not that she'd ever actually intended not to. After all, she'd go to the end of the world if he asked, and had. She wasn't going to turn down an amusement park with him.

"I'm just glad you never talked me into letting you at the controls," he shot back, shaking his head as he ran laughing after her. Just like old times.

The Doctor let out a groaned "Oooooh!" at her taunting, and slammed his foot down as best as he could on the gas, gunning after her. But, these cars were way too slow. And really, that was no fun. Digging in his pocket, the Doctor pulled out his sonic screwdriver and aimed it at the dashboard, flipping the setting. A second later, it was shoved back in his pocket and he rocketed after her, going far faster than the recommended speed limit.

His car hit the tail end of hers, spinning it around a good three-hundred and sixty degrees, and then cackled as he sped away. She was going to kill him, but that was alright.

For a moment, Rose simply sat and stared. Unfair! He had the advantage, that git! There was no way any car on that stupid little course went that fast naturally. "You cheated!" she proclaimed, and she knew if there was any way she was going to get him back at all, it had to be sneaky. She ran playfully into a few of their so-called planetmates before arriving at the side, carefully staying away from him. And then, before he could even realize she'd come up behind him, she cornered him with a triumphant grin. "Take that, Sonic Screwdriver Boy!"

Pumping both hands in the air in excitement, she didn't even notice the person behind her until it was too late, and he slammed into her, which pushed her right on into the Doctor's car. "Deserved that," she replied sheepishly, grinning up at him. "See? You know you like it. And I promise, next ride's completely your choice."

Sneaky little humans. The Doctor definitely hadn't seen her coming, he was too busy trying to knock a goblin out of its car in retaliation for being stuck here in the first place. Not that Rose wasn't a huge upside to that, but he still liked having a working TARDIS, just in case.

"Yeah, you did," he laughed. Their ride was over, so the Doctor clambered out of his car, which took a lot more time and a lot less grace than he would have liked, and then offered a hand to Rose to help her out of her own bumper car.

"I want chips," he insisted, tucking her under his arm again and leading her toward the concession stands. Standing in line with her, the Doctor turned his face into her hair for a second, breathing her in. "Sometimes, I still can't believe you're actually here," he admitted. "I think, I'll blink and you'll be gone."

Watching him pull those legs out of that car made it worth getting slammed around. She accepted the hand gratefully, as even if she was a few inches shorter, it was still an awkward fit. Nestled under his arm, though, she had no complaints at all.

Well. Maybe a few. Her mum should've been there with her. And she missed Tony desperately. Not to mention that weird timey-wimey possibility that if she didn't get back to warn his past self, his future self wouldn't make it there to be with her in some giant pile of paradox. But dammit, she'd worked hard for this. Even if it hadn't gone exactly as she'd planned. And when he was holding her that way, waiting in line, she couldn't fight against it.

Unashamedly, she turned slightly, slipping both arms around his waist to hug him close. "Don't say that," she murmured, her eyes closing to block out the memories. "I... There were a couple of dimensions... You were gone. Either you'd never made it to Earth or you'd...you'd died while you were there." She couldn't stand thinking of it and she bit her lip to keep from crying at this otherwise fun event. "Just... I'm not going anywhere. Not now."

He knew about all that, of course, given that he was not only filled in on some finer, more final points by Donna after she'd been done with her own alternate reality, but well, he was from Rose's future. He knew how it all panned out. How she got the half human version of the Doctor, and he ended up, yet again, alone. But he couldn't think about that. Not here, where none of it seemed to matter as much.

The Doctor was meant to be alone. To not love, to not have a normal life. But here, just maybe...

He looked down at Rose and cupped her chin in his hand, turning her face up to his. "I'm here now. We're together again, and we're all safe. And Rose..." he brought his lips to her ear, just as he'd watched his alter-self do on that damned beach.

"What can I get you?" the gruff goblin voice interrupted him, and the Doctor shot the goblin a look that could have struck him dead where he stood. "Chips."

A goblin kicking contest. They didn't have those in any of the adventure parks back home, but why not start one here? It might not be so bad. Sure, their little squeals might be annoying at first, but she could tune them out. She'd thought sure he might've been about to say something or do something that would change everything and yet... Oh, she was going to shove a whole thing of chips down that little goblin's throat if he wasn't careful.

Instead, she put a smile in place and grinned up at the Doctor, forcing the moisture from her eyes. "Mmm, chips. Remember our first? You took me to see the Earth explode. Now that's a good first date, let me tell you, how many boys can compete with that one?" She took the plate from the goblin, giving him a dirty look as she did so. But her look immediately turned to one of adoration as she smiled up at him. "Though, really, you didn't even bring flowers." Well, there was that tree girl that Rose had been pretty sure he'd fancied. But she was gone, sacrificing herself to stop Cassandra. Like so many people they'd lost. It made her keep one arm tucked around him, squeezing gently.

The Doctor was right in line with Rose's thinking. Death to the goblins. Immediately, if not sooner. How many times now had he been interrupted when trying to confess to Rose how he felt about her? Far too bloody many, as far as he was concerned.

But, he'd, hopefully, have another chance, and so smiled down at Rose as she recounted what they both fondly referred to as their 'first date'. "What can I say? I know how to show a woman a good time," he grinned cheekily, for a moment, reminding anyone that knew him of Jack, and then lead Rose over to a bit of grass somewhat away from the ruckus. He took off his trench coat and spread it out in the grass, just like he'd done on New Earth, now that he thought about it, and then sat down, taking the chips from her so that she could do the same.

"Flowers, huh?" he mused, sticking a chip in his mouth and then shoving his hands in his suit jacket pockets, riffling around in the space that never seemed to end, and always held the most random things you could think of. Time Lord technology, after all. Then he pulled out a single red rose and grinned, twirling it around in front of her face. "A rose for a Rose."

In all the time they'd spent together, she wasn't sure he'd ever gone and actually given her flowers. But Rose's eyes lit up as the rose popped out of his pocket, looking nearly as perfect as if he'd just plucked it from a garden. "How... Oi, never mind, I know, bigger on the inside."

Giggling, she settled down next to him and plucked a delightfully salty, greasy, defiantly unhealthy chip off the top of the pile and popped it into her mouth with a wide grin. Despite her giggles, however, she still held the rose lightly in her lap, as if it were the most brilliant gift anyone had ever given her. And perhaps, in some ways, it was.

"Just doesn't smell like apple grass," she commented, leaning back on one hand and tucking her hair behind her ear. "Or else I'd think we were about to be confronted by cat people." Pausing, she grinned. "Actually, in this place, we might be." That old coat of his was soft beneath her hand, and she was reminded of all the times she'd hugged him or let him hold her when things went rough. It was definitely something to consider. "S'why we make a new memory, though. This time we'll remember it smelling like funnel cakes and toffee apples and..." Pausing, Rose sniffed. "Goblins? Ew."

The Doctor grinned at Rose's reaction to his little magic trick and shrugged. She'd clearly been away too long if she wasn't still used to him pulling random things from his pockets. That was going to have to change.

"I do miss that," the Doctor chuckled, pulling up a stalk of grass and sniffing it before tossing it aside. He leaned back on one elbow, getting comfortable and cozy with her right next to him like she was supposed to be, and shoved another chip in his mouth. "I don't miss having Cassandra hanging out inside you. Or inside me, for that matter," he said with a wrinkle of his nose.

After eating another couple chips, the Doctor twisted on his hip and laid down, with his head in Rose's lap, looking up at her with his standard cheeky, far too pleased with himself grin. "Hi."

She didn't miss having Cassandra inside of her, either. Though she had to give the crazy old woman some credit, at least. She'd had the nerve to do what Rose hadn't. Though fuzzy in memory, she still recalled the Cassandra-induced snog she'd given the man cuddled with her, and her cheeks turned pleasantly pink.

And then there he was, all in her lap, dark hair everywhere, and those eyes... A girl could lose track of herself looking down into those, didn't he know that? Silly alien. Still, Rose didn't try and stop herself from running her fingers lightly through his hair, grinning in spite of herself. "Hi, yourself," she said, tapping his lips with a chip. "Open up, I'm not eating these by myself."

If anyone had told her a few months ago that this would be her, she'd say perhaps in a dream. But the weight of him, the touch she actually felt, and the sound of his voice were all things that had grown more mild as time away from him had gone on.

"Wonder how long this'll last," she commented, attempting to get the conversation away from how pleasant touching him again actually was. "As long as the Faire, maybe? Longer? Just for the day?" Shaking her head, she beamed down at him before picking up another chip for herself.

The Doctor grinned, his mind following the same track hers had gone, and so he was fairly confident about what that blush was about. "While it was nice to know that I still had it, I would have rather it been you," he admitted, reaching up to tug on a lock of her hair.

He opened his mouth for the chip, taking it out of her fingers with his teeth, and then chewed idly, far more interested in the feeling of her fingers snaking through his hair. Time Lord or not, he was male, and loved being petted. Particularly by Rose.

The Doctor's eyes flew open at her question and he almost came up off of her lap before she explained her question. She wasn't second guessing him, which was nice, not that he'd made any sort of intentions known to second guess, but still. It had given him a bit of a panic.

"No idea," he said, settling with a little shrug and snatching up another chip to pop in his mouth. "I think that everything is pretty much at the whim of this Jareth guy. We'll have to go on a roller coaster or two tonight though, just in case." While he talked, his ungreasy hand was wrapped around her knee, hanging on to her, like he was worried that just the weight of his head in her lap wouldn't keep her from being ripped from his side again.

Her own eyes widened when he mentioned his own hopes for that encounter with Cassandra. How could she not? Well, no, Rose supposed snogging a loyal friend would be better than a crazed murderess who'd kidnapped said friend's body. But still!

If she'd had any idea what his actual worry was, she'd have protested that second. Even if it would kill her to put herself on the line yet again. She didn't believe for one instance that he'd ever fail her. Well, perhaps in the romantic sense, when it came to replying to a girl's desperate and heartbreaking declaration of love. But otherwise? Never. She had more faith in him than anyone, including herself.

"Or two?" she teased, winking at him. "Feeling adventurous, aren't you? Next thing you know you'll want to do that scrambler ride. You know the one, flips you upside down, makes you think your stomach's outside your body. Bit like that alien race you took such joy in introducing me to. How lovely of them to share the contents of their meal with us." Her voice was teasing, though, and she touched his cheek briefly. She liked him like this. He looked peaceful, which was something the poor man clearly didn't get enough of. She was also a big fan of the way he held on to her, though she wouldn't speak that out loud. He wasn't the only one who feared being separated on a whim. Especially on Jareth's whim.

The Doctor chuckled. "Oh, the scrambler ride is a given, didn't you realise that?" he teased, shaking his head a little at her remembrance of one of their many encounters with less than savoury races. "I still think the funniest thing was when you got a whole whack of spit in your face," he admitted, and then rolled quickly to avoid getting smacked. It had been so long ago, and yet the Doctor couldn't help but cherish those memories. They were so much happier than the later ones.

Laying on his stomach now, the Doctor propped his chin up on his hand and ran a finger along Rose's knee in a thoughtfully idle pattern.

When he looked at her again, there was a serious, but hopeful look on his face, and he sat up, sitting close to her. "Why were you trying to find me, Rose?" he asked quietly. "Not the dimensions breaking down...before that."

Rose had clung to each and every memory with him as if it were the only thing she had to hold on to. Even those awful moments of saying goodbye, of being nearly taken into the void and the look of horror on his face... Sometimes, those were forefront in her mind. On those long nights where she couldn't sleep because she'd missed the right dimension and found him gone, or got to his but in the wrong time and had only just missed him.

He was such a man. This man was proof that even alien races were completely clueless when it came to females. Shaking her head, Rose smiled at him, touching his arm lightly. "Don't be thick," she told him, her eyes searching his. "I missed you. I missed...that life. The traveling, the meeting people, being involved in something. I couldn't stand that it had been taken away from me, and that I had no say in it at all."

Where once she might have cried at the reminder, her eyes merely misted over a bit, her expression serious. "Think about it. I had the entire world at my fingertips, the entire galaxy, only to have it snatched away. I had this wonderful friend who took care of me and showed me so much. And not just time and space, but how to live. And then it was gone, and he was gone, and I think maybe I might've snapped a little." A smile flickered over her face and she shrugged. She was reminded of arguing with Mickey and her mum when the TARDIS had brought her back to Earth after he forced her off of Satellite 5. The Doctor had taught her a better way to live. To be involved, to care. And, briefly, she'd forgotten it in this new world of hers. She'd returned for a moment to her sixteen year-old, feisty, bitter with life self.

But then he'd arrived and she'd found herself tucked safely into his arms and into his ship all over again. No, she could definitely be the woman she'd become with him once more. It would just take a bit of time was all.

She'd missed the life. Even though the first thing she said had been about missing him, the vast majority of it...They all loved the life, even when they left it of their own volition. They loved the danger, the terror, the majesty of it all. And the Doctor, well, he was a free ride. You'd think after as many years as he'd been bouncing around the universe with his companions, he'd be used to it.

But it was Rose, and so it was different.

What she'd said on that beach, clearly, had been something that she was sure she was never going to have to live up to. Something that would never be called into court. Something that she never really expected him to return, despite what had happened the second time around. He should have known better.

Sitting back, the Doctor shoved a couple of chips in his mouth and leaned his elbows on his bent knees, hanging his hands between them, looking out blankly at the amusement park. And somehow, now that he knew it wasn't returned, for as unfair as it was, he was able to say it. But that was his life. Pain and loneliness. And one of these days, he'd square with that.

"I love you, Rose."

For a moment, she was too distracted to think she'd heard him properly. He was looking off into the distance. It was a look that always brought up conflicting emotions in her. For one, Rose knew it meant he was remembering or thinking or hurting or something that didn't involve letting her in. It was times like that when he was remembering his planet or a past companion or some breach in time he hadn't been able to heal.

But then, she couldn't deny, he also looked amazing that way. The wind ruffling that hair of his just so and his eyes so dark they were nearly black. She was just about to reach out and rest a hand on his back when he spoke.

And she simply stared at him. Her hand remained frozen in mid-air and her heart caught in her throat. Her stomach flipped over a bit and a rush of cold ran through her. Was he kidding? No, no, he couldn't be. When he was kidding, he flashed her that silly grin and that playful wink then grabbed her arm and yanked her off to somewhere perfect and brilliant and left her breathless. He didn't keep the angst look up, not when he was kidding.

But he couldn't be serious. It was impossible. All the chances he'd had to say it and he chose here? Now? "What?" she finally blurted, too shocked and amazed and desperately hopeful to say anything much more intelligent than that. "You... I... What?"

The Doctor watched her shadow in the fading light and closed his eyes when he saw her form freeze, unable to look at her. Instead, he just plucked a blade of grass from the ground between his feet and twirled it around in his finger tips, focusing on the world around him. The ability to see the past, the present, and the future, and what made up everything in the universe. That was his life, that was the weight on his shoulders. That was something that she could never share.

Rose's sputtering, normally, would have amused him to no end, and would have been enough for hours worth of teasing and mocking. But right then, it only hurt. She couldn't even respond to his admission like an adult. But what had he expected?

The Doctor shrugged. "Well we're all with the reminiscing and the like, and I know where you stand, so don't worry about it, but I figured it was only fair to get it out there. Sorry that it makes you uncomfortable."

He wasn't making sense. He knew where she stood? Damn right he knew where she stood, she'd stood on a blasted windy beach in the middle of bleeding nowhere and sobbed her heart out as she told him where she stood. So why was he acting as if this was the worst thing ever spoken out loud in the entire galaxy?

"You idiot," she sputtered, a mix of anger and pleasure and something much deeper that Rose hadn't felt in quite some time coursing through her. "You daft, mental, wonderful idiot! You know I... And I've already told you... Quite right?" Rose yelped. "I bloody told you I loved you and that's all you could think to say with seconds to spare?"

But for all of her yelling and all of her hurting, she was the happiest she'd ever been. Nothing would make her forget this moment. Nothing would ever top sitting here, on that trench coat she loved so much, next to the man who meant the entire world to her, hearing words she'd wanted to hear for so long it made her hurt to remember.

And it was that knowledge that had her pouncing him. She moved forward so quickly she knocked them both backwards, but they were shielded by that sweet-smelling coat and soft, if not apple-scented grass. And finally, finally, on her own accord and not because some creepy woman was inside of her, she kissed him.

Okay, so he'd thought this through. He'd thought, like he usually did, of every possible outcome, and weighed his options. One thing he had never expected, however, was for her to start screaming at him. Screaming and declarations of affection generally didn't go together. At least, not that kind of screaming, anyway.

"I...da...It was...I was trying to lighten the mood!" he finally got out edgewise through her ranting. Okay, so it had been a bit stupid of him, but she wasn't the only one that had been wrestling with a breaking heart on that beach. At least she'd only done it once.

The Doctor let out an 'oomph' of air when she attacked him, and looked up at Rose - not like she'd dribbled on her shirt - but like she'd lost her damn mind. "Whatdja do that--"

For a second, he just lay there with her lips working over his before his brain caught up with what was happening. Then his arms were around her and he was returning that kiss with everything he had in him, holding her as close as he possibly could, not caring if all the universe had assembled to watch them making out. She tasted so sweet, so pure, that the thought of losing that, even for a moment to catch his breath, was heartbreaking.

It wasn't the way she'd always pictured it. In her daydreams, they were usually standing for this moment, and he was the one who'd kissed her first, folded her in his arms and promised to never let go. But this? Would definitely do in a pinch. Rose knew that she could spend her last remaining moments kissing this man in this way and have no regrets whatsoever.

It was a moment or two or several, she'd lost count, before she broke her lips from his, needing to breathe and get her mind together and all those things that happened after kissing a man you'd loved for years for the first time. And when she looked down into those brown eyes, her cheeks flushed and she smiled bashfully. But she didn't pull away.

Her fingers absently worked the lapels of the Doctor's pinstripe suit, her expression slightly shy. "Not...entirely sure I meant to do that," she said, but a small giggle escaped just the same. "Least, not like that. But um..." Grinning, she placed a much softer kiss on his lips. "Not exactly complaining, you see."

No. No, she'd never complain about finally getting the nerve together to kiss this man, this alien who'd won her heart from the word 'run'.

When the kiss broke, the Doctor's bottom lip pushed out in a little pout before he grinned up at her. That was not like Cassandra's kiss, the only thing he had to go off of as far as wondering what it would be like to kiss Rose. It was a thousand, trillion times better, and if she never left the circle of his arms again, it would be too soon.

One hand's worth of fingers combed through her hair, ran along the line of her jaw, investigated the curves of her face, as if he were memorizing her, and all the while through her rambling, that same cheeky grin that had always driven her a little bonkers was on his face. The Doctor wasn't entirely sure that he'd ever stop smiling, as a matter of fact.

"I'm glad all the same," he assured her, leaning up to press a kiss to the tip of her nose, shifting to get his legs out from under him and into a way less awkward position than what they'd been pushed into. But still, he kept Rose on top of him, holding her close with one arm wrapped tightly around her waist, his hand coming to rest on her cheek as he stared into the eyes he loved so much.

"Tell me again, Rose?" he almost begged. He needed to hear it without the tears, without the pressure.

For someone so lanky, the Doctor sure was comfortable. Rose found herself easily settling into him, as if she'd never left. Her arms folded on his chest and she rested her head on top of them. She was safe in his arms, knowing no one would tear them apart now. All of the goblins in this crazy city could show up and she'd tell them right where they could go before she'd let them separate her from this man.

At his request, her eyes closed, briefly reliving that moment where she'd blurted it last. The pain she'd felt was still very real, and had haunted her time and again. But now, as she lay against him, breathing in that scent that was only his and listening to the comforting sound of two hearts beating, Rose smiled.

"I love you," she murmured, then looked up at him, shifting a bit so she could look into his eyes. "I love you. Always have." And yet she'd never said it. Not until it was too late. Well, never mind that. They had here and now and she wasn't going to waste it. Not ever again. The Doctor loved her, had actually said so, and was now touching her so sweetly she thought she'd cry. She wouldn't lose that. "Too bad Mum's not here to see this," she teased a moment later. "She might even try and slap you again for it."

Hearing her say those words was like nothing that the Doctor had ever experienced, not in all the universe, not in over nine hundred years. It was like a part of him that he thought long gone and broken, had been put back together and replaced. His arm around her waist tightened and he closed his eyes, drawing her face down to his for another kiss, his hand going into that hair that had haunted him for so long.

"Bahhh," the Doctor complained, making a face up at her and shaking his head. "I've been hit by more mothers..." he grumbled, shaking his head. It was always the mothers, no matter what he did, or what his relationship was with their daughters...Always the mothers. Then again, with Jackie, he couldn't decide which was worse. When she hit him, or when she kissed him.

They lay there for a few more minutes, and then the Doctor grinned, shifting and dumping Rose off of him, looking down at her now as she was pitched onto her back. "Come on, Rose. Let's go ride some coasters," he suggested. He needed to move, needed to yell recklessly, needed to run. Pulling her to her feet, he threw his coat back on and shoved their trash into one of the pockets before grabbing her hand, kissing her quickly, and then running full-tilt back toward the park.

Rose shook her head with a helpless giggle as she was dropped unceremoniously onto her back. Well, she supposed that's what happened when the man you loved was prone to sudden bursts of energy. Far more energy than the normal human, that was for certain.

"Poor treatment for the woman you're supposed to love," she scolded, though there wasn't even a good amount of venom in her tone to make it at all threatening. She was too grateful to be pulled around by him again to argue.

That and the fact that said running around now included snogging.

Her hand gripped snugly in his, she followed after him, hair flying behind her and what felt like a permanent smile on her face, being dragged off to the highest roller coaster in the entire park. "I'm not to blame if you lose all those chips you just ate," she warned, though she was laughing. Everything felt so real and so right and just so bloody perfect that she thought she'd wake up and have dreamt it all.

The Doctor scoffed away her worries and skid to a stop in line, Rose's hand still in his own. For just a minute, he could pretend that he was human, and that this could actually work out happily. He could pretend that he had one life to live, and he could spend it with Rose. He could pretend that their happiness wasn't a soap bubble; ready to break open into nothing at any second.

Pulling Rose in front of him, the Doctor pressed his chest to her back and wrapped his arms around her waist, burying his face in her sweet smelling hair and breathing her in. He couldn't let himself think about all that would happen, all that time would do to them. He couldn't let himself mood swing her into anger and resentment. He wanted to be happy, damn it, and after nine hundred years and countless planets, galaxies and races saved, it was his turn.

It was their turn before he knew it, and the Doctor walked behind Rose, not letting go of her until he actually had to, and then climbed in the coaster after her, pulling down the safety harnesses and making sure that she wasn't going to fall out. Because that would be so Rose, and he was far too happy to have a near death anything. He didn't even want a near bruise experience today.

It felt like such a normal thing to do. Go around an adventure park with her favourite bloke on her arm, sneaking kisses in between thrill rides and eating foods she'd be fighting calories from all day. In truth, it didn't even feel like her own life. Rose Tyler didn't get things that worked out this perfectly. In Rose's world, the perfect man was snatched away, she was separated from friends or from family, and she faced more dangers than should have been humanly possible.

The flicker of fear that ran through her had her leaning back against the Doctor in line and grasping his hand in hers as he made sure they were safe. "I'm not likely to fall out you know," she teased, her heart in her throat as she took in his profile. "You're skinnier than I am, you'll slide right out."

But her hold on his arm was proof she had no intentions of letting anything happen to him. It had taken her too damn long to get him back. Impulsively, she leaned in, kissing his cheek gently as the coaster began grinding to a start.

"But so you know? If you start screaming, I'm going to be forced to laugh." Rose turned and faced the front then as the ride began it's first ascent, her expression entirely innocent.

The Doctor chuckled and wrapped his arms around her as well, liking the feeling of Rose sitting in front of him in his lap, safe and sound. "Yeah, but I'll bounce right back. You won't. So you're staying safe," he insisted, brushing her hair aside with one hand to press a soft, tender kiss to her neck.

Of course, that being said, the first thing he did when they went down the first hill was let go of her - with one hand - to throw his arm up in the air recklessly. He didn't scream, just laughed as they whipped around turns and went down embankments, holding on to Rose securely with one arm and reveling in the satisfaction of things finally being the way they were supposed to be. For the first time in hundreds of years, he was completely content.

The ride started to wind down, and the Doctor chuckled suddenly and leaned forward a bit to rest his chin on Rose's shoulder. "I wonder what Jack will say..." he smirked.

The brush of his lips against her skin felt absolutely perfect and Rose released a soft sigh of pleasure as she felt her cheeks begin flushing. It was like she'd always dreamed of, but better, because her dreams typically took a darker turn at about that point.

"What Jack'll say about the fact that you screamed like a little girl?" she teased, though he hadn't. Rather than screams of horror, she'd heard laughter from behind her. And it felt so good to hear him laugh again. "Or what Jack'll say about..." Turning her head to where his was propped against her, she pressed a gentle kiss against the Doctor's temple. It didn't get better than this. "You know. What he'll say about...this."

She hopped out of the roller coaster, looking at him expectantly for both an answer to her question and for him to follow her. After all, Mr. Sparkly King could change his mind at any moment and turn this place into Nana's Petting Zoo, and there was still quite a bit to see and do.

The Doctor got out, all arms and legs and awkwardness again, and then brushed himself off, not even noticing that his hair had gotten to the point that it usually did when he was upset or thinking very hard. That is to say, it was everywhere. He didn't follow, but walked next to Rose with his hands shoved in his pockets and a cheesy grin on his face, bouncing on the toes of his trainers with every step. He was a happy Doctor, that was for sure.

"Neither, actually. I was wondering what he'd have to say about the time and dimension flux in this place. I mean with the landscape changing and the goblins..." he trailed off, clearly teasing her, and bumped her with his elbow. "Yes, us, you dumbo," he said, and then made a face. "Blimey, I sound like Donna."

Shaking that off and the bad feelings that came with it, the Doctor looked around. "What's next, Rose?" he asked, bouncing again. "Just no more bumper cars, I beg you."

Though she'd never tell him, Rose loved when his hair was like that. It was so uniquely Doctor. All wild and crazy, whether he was manic with ideas or bored and playing with it, it was completely his. She took advantage of his hands being in his pockets to reach up, smoothing it down just to the point where he didn't have that crazy Einstein thing going against him anymore.

For a moment, he had her going. Her eyebrows scrunched together with that 'what the hell are you on about' look and she tilted her head, staring up at him. But when the Doctor's elbow nudged her, she broke into a bright grin and bounced up and down a bit, her hands holding that elbow tightly. "Don't be a git, you're not supposed to go about calling me a dumbo, you know." Pausing, she considered. Should she? With a bite of her lip, Rose made her decision. "And you're going to have to tell me all about this Donna someday."

What next indeed? She slowed down, looking around them. There were more rides, more than she could count. Fast ones, slow ones, upside down ones, lose your chips ones, and kiddie ones. But she looked up at him with a wide-eyed, innocent expression and smiled serenely. "I do believe you promised to win me a stuffie, dear sir." She batted her eyelashes playfully, then turned around to face him as she walked backwards towards the Midway.
