WHO: The Doctor and Rose
WHAT: Exploring the amusement park
WHEN: Day Seven, early evening
WHERE: The amusement park...duh!
RATING: TBA
STATUS: Incomplete

Okay, so an amusement park wasn't exactly the best place to take the girl you fancied, particularly when she didn't know that you fancied her, but it was all the Doctor had to work with. And besides, it was sort of them. At least, it held the possibility of something going wrong, at any rate. Right?

The Doctor bounced around outside the TARDIS, the same as he had countless times before, waiting around for Rose to finish getting dressed. He was in his standard, a pinstripe suit and trainers, but he'd left the tie behind, unbuttoning the first button or two of his button down, going for a more casual look. That, and if he was going to get soaked, he'd might as well.

"Come on, Rose!" he hollered, banging on the door of the TARDIS, rolling his eyes. "There's no alien invasion, no race to be saved, no screaming...At least let me have the amusement park!"

Rose had clung to each and every memory with him as if it were the only thing she had to hold on to. Even those awful moments of saying goodbye, of being nearly taken into the void and the look of horror on his face... Sometimes, those were forefront in her mind. On those long nights where she couldn't sleep because she'd missed the right dimension and found him gone, or got to his but in the wrong time and had only just missed him.

He was such a man. This man was proof that even alien races were completely clueless when it came to females. Shaking her head, Rose smiled at him, touching his arm lightly. "Don't be thick," she told him, her eyes searching his. "I missed you. I missed...that life. The traveling, the meeting people, being involved in something. I couldn't stand that it had been taken away from me, and that I had no say in it at all."

Where once she might have cried at the reminder, her eyes merely misted over a bit, her expression serious. "Think about it. I had the entire world at my fingertips, the entire galaxy, only to have it snatched away. I had this wonderful friend who took care of me and showed me so much. And not just time and space, but how to live. And then it was gone, and he was gone, and I think maybe I might've snapped a little." A smile flickered over her face and she shrugged. She was reminded of arguing with Mickey and her mum when the TARDIS had brought her back to Earth after he forced her off of Satellite 5. The Doctor had taught her a better way to live. To be involved, to care. And, briefly, she'd forgotten it in this new world of hers. She'd returned for a moment to her sixteen year-old, feisty, bitter with life self.

But then he'd arrived and she'd found herself tucked safely into his arms and into his ship all over again. No, she could definitely be the woman she'd become with him once more. It would just take a bit of time was all.

She'd missed the life. Even though the first thing she said had been about missing him, the vast majority of it...They all loved the life, even when they left it of their own volition. They loved the danger, the terror, the majesty of it all. And the Doctor, well, he was a free ride. You'd think after as many years as he'd been bouncing around the universe with his companions, he'd be used to it.

But it was Rose, and so it was different.

What she'd said on that beach, clearly, had been something that she was sure she was never going to have to live up to. Something that would never be called into court. Something that she never really expected him to return, despite what had happened the second time around. He should have known better.

Sitting back, the Doctor shoved a couple of chips in his mouth and leaned his elbows on his bent knees, hanging his hands between them, looking out blankly at the amusement park. And somehow, now that he knew it wasn't returned, for as unfair as it was, he was able to say it. But that was his life. Pain and loneliness. And one of these days, he'd square with that.

"I love you, Rose."
