WHO: Vox Machina & Friends + The Star Labs People
WHAT: Percy's demons have caught up with him... in a quite literal sense. VM & Company unite for a resurrection ritual.
WHEN: After this
WHERE: The Lab
RATING: TBD
STATUS: In Progress

It had been a moment of panic in Vax the second that he'd realized they hadn't arrived back in Whitestone. It had taken a beat later before he realized where they were instead of the city they'd been aiming for. He wasn't sure how long they'd been gone, or if their absence had even been noticed, and he'd noted, with a mix of shock and relief, that Keyleth had been with them as well. But there hadn't been time to thinking about the whys and wheres and whats of the situation. Percy was still dead, and they had to do something about it. Kash had flashed into his mind a second later, and he'd put up his plea before leading the small group that he'd arrived with towards the Lab where Percy had spent 90% of his time here.

He hadn't expected Harry to greet them when they arrived, but he realized after a moment that he should have. He hadn't exactly been vague about explaining what had happened in public, and the expression that was twisting the other man's features made it more than little clear that he was already expecting the worst. "We need a place to put him," Vax said, no real pretense in the words as Harry nodded, shifting back into the labs.

"I already prepped one of the examine tables," Harry said, his tone making it a little too obvious he was barely maintaining his composure. After all, for him, dead was dead. There was no hope to be held onto when that became a state of being beyond the handful of minutes that someone could be resuscitated. But, somehow, Harry doubted that Percy's condition just required a little CPR. What they were planning... it was well beyond him.

"How likely is it this is going to work?" Harry asked, sparing a look over his shoulder.

"We won't know until we try," Vax said, not really sure how to answer that. On one hand, they'd never had it not work before. But on the others, well... There was always a chance it would fail. He'd just rather not think about that possibility.

Stay calm. Think. Keyleth had lost track of the number of times she'd told herself that since she'd rushed out and found herself in the sprawl of an unfamiliar place. The comforting familiarity of the Sun Tree, practically an old friend by this point, was no where. Instead there were alien trees and equally unfamiliar creatures - some of them the size of dragons, by the look of them in the distance. Scanlan and Grog were gone, Percy was still dead, and they weren't in Whitestone, where Pike could set that right. They weren't where Keyleth was supposed to take them, where they could bring back Percy.

She let Vex and Vax explain, show her how to use the devices to talk (through her panic, she was still halfway fascinated by those,) and try to tell her about this place, and people they'd met before. Keyleth tried to take it all in, but it made no sense. None of this made any sense, and Percy was still dead.

Kashaw was there though. Keyleth didn't understand why his goddess would bring Percy back, or what the price would be if she did. But it was the only option they had here.

Wherever here was.

She followed where the twins led, the strange city and people around them distracting. Everything seemed like a threat when Keyleth didn't know what any of it really meant. She trusted Vax, but it was ... a lot. Everything. Was a lot. Keyleth just wanted her friend back, and then somewhere familiar. And maybe an entire bottle of something really expensive and really bad for her. And Pike. She really wanted Pike to be there right now.

There were people she didn't know waiting for them when they went into the lab. Or what Vax had called a lab, anyway. Keyleth recognized a few things as familiar - it looked like tools or projects Percy might tinker with. Keyleth had helped him enough that even when it wasn't something she understood, she could see something familiar in bits of metal or parts on a table. Seeing them made her heart hurt and her eyes sting and she gritted her teeth, telling herself again. Stay calm. Think. Nothing good happened when she panicked. She wasn't any good to anyone when she made nothing but mistakes. She drew in a deep breath, making herself step up to help Vax and Vex get Percy onto the table. Other than the few familiar traces of Percy in the room, nothing made sense in it - machines she didn't understand, men she didn't know. She focused on what they had to do and looked for Kash, who at least was familiar, and welcome.

There were a lot of lights in the room. They were harsh and unnatural. Unforgiving. Keyleth couldn't help but see how much blood and dirt she'd missed when she'd cleaned Percy up with those lights glaring down on his still face. She hadn't done a very good job, even with something so basic. Her hands itched to try to fix it, but there were more important things to do now. One more thing to apologize for when he was back. He HAD to be back with them. Then she could worry about making sense of all of this.

Cisco had sort of hovered in the background when he realized what was going on while people invaded his lab. (Harry's technically, but he'd worn the vest so he got to say it was his.) He wanted to text Caitlin, but ... once they had Percy there, Cisco didn't think there was much she could do. Dead was dead. They'd just been here.

There were extra elf-types and fantasy-peoples he didn't know, and Cisco knew they were planning some magic, D&D style attempt at raising the dead. It might work. He knew nothing about magic. Or it might interact with whatever weird mojo was already here and blow everything up.

Or it just ... might not work. Cisco stayed out of the way, but he didn't leave. He'd just hang around. In case they needed anything.

He could at least tell them people came back here, he had pretty compelling evidence of that one.

Bouncing back and forth between worlds had not been on Vex's to-do list, but when she arrived back in this place, she thought it was some kind of strange and cruel fate. Worry about this place not being safe, this place being an illusion and full of danger, and that's where they ended up. She'd been so relieved to go home, to go to Ank'Harel, and all of the things they had experienced there. Then fucking Ripley showed up. Out of all people.. She knew that eventually the woman would have shown up, but not like this.

It shouldn't have ended like this. Not at all. Putting an arrow in her heart and through her mouth had only eased the pain just slightly. Vex hadn't left his body, not really. Just enough to make sure they were safe, before they headed back to Whitestone. Except that's not where they had ended up. If Vex hadn't felt so utterly numb about everything, she would have laughed at the circumstance of ending up in this place again.

The only good thing about it was that Kash was there. And while he wasn't Pike, he was the next best thing. There was no question on her part. If Kash had brought her back, he could bring back Percy too. And this time it would be up to her to sacrifice something, if it was necessary, to make sure that Percy would come back and that they weren't asking some kind of evil goddess to come back. Reviving Percy was the only thing that mattered.

She absolutely didn't leave his side, not for one second as they laid him out and waited for Kash to come. She held onto his hand, wishing very hard that she wasn't crying in front of these people she didn't know very well. They liked Percy well enough, but she wasn't sure they had the right to be there. She wasn't going to bring that up though, not now. Right now she was just shaking, holding onto Percy's hand and waiting for the ritual to begin.

Kash had shown up a moment later, with all of the stuff that he needed to make this ritual complete. This wasn't what he wanted to do either, but he could never actually say no to Keyleth. And besides, if he didn't do it, then they were going to get one of those weirdos to do it. Lyra and Gern? Yeah, he was not going to let them handle Percy's resurrection. He was likely to come back as a damn zombie, or worse. He was risking a lot, by doing this again. Vesh hadn't responded the last time, the Raven Queen had but calling on her a second time? Yeah, this was probably going to be bad. They knew the risk though, so he got to work setting up the ritual.

When he asked around for a diamond, Vex hadn't hesitated to hand over one of hers. It was the first time that he'd seen her pay for anything.

"We ready do to this? I'm going to need help." They knew this from before, right? Kash looked over at Keyleth, knowing she would want to. Percy was her best friend anyway.

Then he looked over at Vex. She nodded her head. Kash knew a lot of things, but he was pretty sure how she felt.

Gilmore had slipped in, standing next to Vax. Clearly here for whatever happened. Kash kind of hoped that if this went sideways, that Gilmore would be able to help. Hopefully.

With a deep breath, Kash started the ritual. Here went nothing.

Vax hadn't even realized he'd been holding his breath until Shaun stepped in next to him, the breath he'd been holding releasing out as he groped blindly for the other man's hand, even as he pressed in closer to Keyleth. There was a palpable tension in the air, and even as he met Kash's gaze to indicate that he was going to help with the ritual however he could, Vax knew that it wasn't likely to break until Percy breathed again. And if he didn't...

He didn't want to think about that.

Harry was trying to keep a respectful distance. These were Percy's friends, his family, the closest thing that he had left, and he was knew, a stranger to most of them, and he didn't have any real right to be within the midst of everything that was happening. But it was hard. It was difficult to stand back and let them down what they were going to do when the sight of Percy laid out on the table, gunshots and gauges littering his body, was assaulting him. His mind flashed for a moment, the image of Jess laid out in a similar table, the monitor flatlining, mingling with the picture in front of him, and his breath caught, squeezing his eyes shut and quietly thankful that there wasn't that persistent screeching accompanying this moment.

He wasn't sure he'd be able to stand it if there had been.

The first part of the ritual required finding the actual spirit, and so that is what Kash started with. He grasped his symbol, the scars on his arm, all flaring with some kind of dark energy. His eyes glazed over black and he began to search. He could only hope that Percy's spirit was somewhere that he could get to. That it was able to be seen, even though they were in a different plane all together.

He searched.. and searched.. but it wasn't there.

No that wasn't right.

"I can't.. I can't find him. Something.. fuck, I don't know. Something is blocking his spirit. I can't get to him.." He wasn't sure who he was talking to. Anyone who was listening really. He had no idea what happened to Percy, other than there was a bad bitch with a gun, that they had all killed. Why wasn't his spirit here?

"I know he's there but he's all.. blurry. I don't know how to explain it. I can't do the ritual like this.. I need his spirit to be here."

With Vex, she hadn't gone anywhere. Her spirit had been right there. Dammit. This was so much simpler when people dropped dead right in front of him.

It was distressingly familiar, this ritual, but it was also ... not. This place was not right and it was wrong that it was Percy and that they weren't in Whitestone. Whitestone was Percy's home. They should be there. He should be home when they tried to bring him back. If felt like that should help, like it should be ... more solid that way.

But this was what they had. And it had worked for Vex, when she was far from home and in the middle of the lair of something evil. That had to meant it could work here, too.

Keyleth had tried to smile at Kash, because she was glad to see him, and grateful to him, despite the situation. But she knew it came out all watery and ... it probably would have been better not to bother. It was probably creepy, smiling at someone at all over a resurrection? Wasn't it?

Her thoughts were as unsettled as everything else. When Vax pressed in nearer to her, Keyleth gripped his hand automatically. Gilmore's appearance wasn't a surprise - the whirlwind trip here had included a tip that he was here, and Keyleth ... didn't smile at him. She nodded. That was probably less awkward. She wasn't good at gauging that sort of thing even when every part of her wasn't caught up in worry about Percy.

She gripped Vax's hand harder when Kash spoke, mind going blank, circling around a brief moment of panic that it wasn't working, before Keyleth caught up. "Did he ... his spirit not ... come with us?" That didn't feel right. It had to be something else. She thought of the dark, twisted shadow they'd last seen on the glass island. "Orthax," she said, swallowing. "The gun - Ripley's gun. It was in the bag. What if he's still ... connected to Percy, somehow? Keeping him from returning" If that wasn't it, then Percy just wasn't HERE, and there was no way to put him back where he belonged. Keyleth let go of Vax's hand, looking to see who had the Bag of Holding. Thank their frail, fleeting luck that it wasn't with Grog ... wherever he was. (Please let them at least be safe in Whitestone.)

Oh right! The bag of holding. It had caught Vex off guard, too distracted by the fact that she was panicking about Percy's soul being gone. She gave out a belated 'I have it' before she was digging it out and asking for the gun to be brought forth. She hated holding it, that was for sure. It was a damn awful thing, for a number of reasons. She handed it over to Kash as quickly as she could.

As soon as Kash had the gun in his hand, it became all too clear. This was definitely it. "His soul is trapped.. I don't get it. Who the fuck is Orthax? His soul is tied to this damn thing and it's not good. It's like.. fuck, I don't even know. A shadow. It's.. it's eating him. Any idea of how to stop this damn thing?"

This gun was almost as evil as Vesh, and that was saying something. It seeped horribleness, and just holding it was a little too close to comfort to his wife. Kash tried the ritual again, or at least using his arcane energy so that he could find a way to get rid of this thing. Would destroying the gun help? Or just make things worse? He had no idea.

"There's a thread.. I can see it..between his soul and the.. gun or the shadow or whatever the fuck it is."

Zahra had been quiet for most of the time they had been in the lab. She liked Percy. In many ways, they were similar people. In her time in Whitestone, they'd had many conversations about forging weapons, about the perils of nobility, about a number of things. She had genuinely enjoyed creating the Raven Queen shrine when he had asked her to. He was far too clever for anyone's good and she could see a darkness in him, but she liked him. Seeing him dead was a painful thing.

Vex's pain was worse. It was written all over her and Zahra ached to be able to fix it. She had taken her place by Vex's side, silently supporting her and giving her someone to lean on. Vex tried so hard to be strong for everyone. She needed someone to be strong for her. Still, she mostly felt useless. She liked Percy, but she didn't know that she had any place helping in this ritual.

Until the gun came out and Kash spoke of demons and souls and a thread. Zahra knew a lot about demons and devils. It was part of her heritage. And she knew what this was. Knew how to fix it. "Greater Restoration," she said, voice soft but firm. "We need someone to cast Greater Restoration. It will sever the connection between this Orthax and his tether on this plane. And it should help to release Percival's soul so you can complete the ritual."

She gave Kash a stern look. "You focus on the ritual," she said. "If it breaks, we may not get a second chance." She looked at Keyleth, hoping she was right. "You can do it, can't you?" she asked. She was sure the lovely little druid knew the spell. "You need to do this, darling."

Having said her peace, she wrapped an arm around Vex and pulled her close. "He will be all right, dear," she assured her. "Have faith."

Keyleth hadn't even seen Zahra come in, and she started a little at the familiar voice. Her mind had been racing, thinking over when it had been a sword and Grog. Pike had set it right then. (What she wouldn't give to have Pike here. Or to be where Pike was, more rightly.) How had she done it? Keyleth could remember a spell, remember Grog still and cold and then abruptly back with them and free of influence. But she couldn't quite remember how Pike had done it. How did she forget something so important at a moment like this? How was she coming up so short whenever she was needed?

Zahra got there first. "Yes," Keyleth breathed, relieved and chagrined, to not have known, at the same time. "I can. I have it prepared. I just ... it's fine. I can do it." The spell. She'd done it before, but not for something like this. Souls and spirits - it was Pike's job. Keyleth didn't understand them the same way, didn't have faith. What if she failed? She couldn't. She couldn't keep Percy alive in the first place, she couldn't get them home through a damned tree. She had to do this. "Give me the gun," she told Kashaw, swallowing and making her voice resolute.

When Kash handed it over, Keyleth felt her skin crawl. The gun felt too heavy and unnatural. She set it down in front of her, preparing for a moment and focusing. The room, too bright and too strange and filled with uncomfortable amounts of people she didn't know well shifted, the brightness edging with shadows. Or a shadow. It was a living, terrifying thing, and she knew it. Orthax. Not physically there, exactly, but there nonetheless, tied by strings of shadow and will to the gun in front of her. And at the center of the seething mass of him was what she could feel was Percy, diminished and being eaten away by the thing that held him.

Keyleth made a soft, wounded noise without realizing it, but she rallied, hands flexing and reaching. To everyone else in the room, she was grasping at nothing, but to her view, she reached for the shadows that bound Percy to the shadows, and the shadows to the weapon. It was difficult to grip, and she heard a voice, familiar and sinister, protesting that she couldn't take what was his. Keyleth ignored it, because it could fuck RIGHT off, Percy wasn't Orthax's. The shadows moved and slid, slippery and strong, but Keyleth held on, and the spell flashed and she pulled - as much with her will as with her hands. Abruptly the shadows tore away, dissipating, and the spell gave out with a flash. The names that had been written on the gun disappeared, along with the heavy, oppressive feeling of power it carried with it.

And Percy, the bright, damaged spirit of him, was free, and started to drift away. The sight the spell had granted that let her see him was already fading, and Keyleth panicked. "PERCY!" she screamed. "DON'T YOU DARE JUST LEAVE! I don't know where I am and you need to get back and explain it right now! We NEED you! DON'T MAKE US EXPLAIN THIS TO YOUR SISTER! YOU KNOW HOW BAD WE ARE AT THAT. GET BACK HERE!" Her view of him faded in time for Keyleth to realize she was yelling into the air like an insane person and she flushed, but she was still scowling, staring into the spot where his spirt had been drifting. "Go, keep going," she told Kash. Her voice was quieter, but still speaking to someone no one else had seen was really there, and still more fierce than anything else, despite the fact that she'd stopped yelling. "Whatever world this is, it's worse if you're not in it, Percy."

Whatever the hell was going on, Kash didn't want any part of it. That gun should definitely be destroyed or something. Now they had to worry about two different evil entities? Hopefully neither one of them came popping up while they were trying to get this done. He wasn't sure what Keyleth was doing, but as soon as it was done, he could see clearly again. Percy's soul was there but very tattered and broken. He was there though. They were going to have to move fast. Ask questions about whatever that was quickly. "I've got him. It worked."

He finished the beginning of the ritual then, asking the soul to stick around, to pay attention. Then he said he needed help, from three others. They had to give something to the ritual in order to complete it. Something to help the spirit settle back in it's body. "Whoever's closest with him.. I'll need your help."

Vex was immediately up, and looking through Percy's pockets for something specific. She pulled out the shards of residuum and placed them on his chest. There were letters that she quickly stuck it in her pocket for later. It was addressed to all of them after all.

"Percy, I don't know if you can hear me but .. we need you here. I need you here. Please come back." She leaned down and whispered something in his ear, and then kissed him gently.

Vax had been locked in place, not quite sure how to deal with this entire situation that was unfolding before him. Percy hadn't been accessible, stolen away by that demonic shithead who seemed to think he had some claim over Percy that trumped theirs. Which, sorry, no, that wasn't happening. Zahra's words, Keyleth's shouting, it was all a torrent in his mind that was shattered as he watched his sister kiss Percy.

Oh. Right. They hadn't told Vex yet.

Shit, that was going to be fun to explain.

Squeezing Shaun's hand to quietly take support from his presence, Vax stepped forward, touching Keyleth and Vex's shoulders as he went before moving to the table, kneeling down slightly as he removed the sachet that Percy had made him, laying it on his chest as he closed his eyes, unfurling the wings around himself as he made a call.

The world went black around him, spreading back more than just the closing his eyes could block out light, falling into a void where he didn't find himself alone.

"He can't die. Not like this," Vax's voice echoed in the void. "She doesn't get to take him from us."

"You're not the one who has a say in that, Vax'ildan," the Raven Queen's voice was even-tempered yet pointed. "Acceptance is where you're supposed to be situated in relation to these events."

"I know. I know. But he was taken out by an evil beyond what was natural. Isn't that what we're supposed to be stopping? You can't just let this stand the way it is. Please. He's worth... so much more than this."

"You make an impassioned plea on behalf of a man you carried such a grudge against for so long, my champion. Do you truly think him worth it, even after everything he's done, everything he's been a part of? What he almost took from you?"

"Yes. Without a doubt, yes," Vax responded, the void shifting around him and pushing him back into himself.

Well, that was just like her. No confirmation one way or another.

Standing, Vax reached out, settling his hand over the sachet and peering down at Percy, "I forgive you, Percy. I did, a long time ago, but I just never bothered to say it. I always thought we'd have more time. I always thought... I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."

Keyleth wiped a hand across her eyes quickly, eyes moving from Percy's body to the spot she'd last seen the flicker of his spirit, as if she could somehow anchor it there just by glaring at it.

She looked away as Vex stepped up, though Keyleth averted her eyes during the whispered kiss, trying to give her an instant of privacy in the midst of the display. It was a public show for all to see. That's really what these rituals were, what they demanded. They had to pull out their hearts and put them on display to see if the gods thought they were bleeding out enough to send back who they'd lost. Or at least that FELT like how it worked. And with Kash forced to do it, it wasn't even the warm if baffling spirit of Sarenrae they were relying on. It was some dark bitch goddess none of them understood and no one loved and who they might end up having to fight for Kash after this. Which she would do, for Percy and Kash.

Honestly, she might even want a fight right now, and Keyleth knew that was absolutely foolish to think in the midst of a ritual like this. But it was just all so much, and it was all the time and she couldn't help properly. What was the point of everything they did if they couldn't even reliably take a tree home to save Percy and he didn't stay put to be resurrected properly? What chance did they have of saving everyone else when they couldn't save their own?

Keyleth shook herself as Vax touched her shoulder and then knelt, his wings unfurling. His wings really were very pretty, for all that his armor smelled like a tomb. At the moment, Keyleth found that annoying too. They were a gift-burden from yet another overbearing entity with an agenda they didn't understand. They shouldn't get to be pretty. Just once, things should look like what they truly were.

Keyleth fumbled for a second as Vax finished and she stepped up to Percy's side in his place, awkward in touching Percy when he was so very ... not there. Not inside his own body. Percy's shoulder against hers was one of her most frequent steadying comforts. Even when they disagreed, he was always ... solid. Percy cold and stiff was fundamentally wrong. She found what she was looking for, cupping the bird's skull she'd once given him in both hands. "Percy," she said. She tried to sound calm, but Keyleth knew she didn't. She was upset and she was emotional and it was unfair and petty but she was angry. "We disagree about ... many things. Most things, it feels like, some days. But lately, I feel as if we at least understand one another better than we used to. We've talked about death ... probably more than is healthy, but given what we do, it's natural. Maybe you spent so long thinking of the Briarwoods and Ripley as the end of your journey that now this seems like where the story should finish. Maybe it was all you needed."

Keyleth gripped the little skull. "But understanding that things end doesn't give you permission to LET it. There's things left to do. Things WE need to do, and we need you to do them, Percy. I need you. Some things die, but other things need to live, when they can." Keyleth shut her eyes, reaching into her grasp of wild magic and summoning forth a small flock of birds, who rushed through the room, hovering instinctively over the spot she'd last seen Percy's spirit. "And I swear, Percival Fredrickstein Von Musel Klossowski del Rolo III, if you live through dragons and and mind flayers and vampires but let fucking Ripley die knowing she got to kill you, they will follow you to whatever afterlife you find and shred everything you sketch for the rest of eternity, and shit on everything you touch!"

When she finished, Keyleth realized just how ridiculous she'd just been, eyes teary and face a mix of devastation and genuine, irritated, fruitless fury. "Just come back," she said again, voice small instead of angry.

She must sound like she'd lost it. Maybe she had. But Keyleth knew what she saw, she knew that had been Percy, and that he'd been on the edge of being ... of leaving. She felt it. She didn't know what Vex had whispered, but she knew Vax's forgiveness had been soft and Vex's kiss had been sweet and Keyleth ... well. Yelling him back to life somehow felt better than pleading.

As Keyleth's anger faded into tears and her voice faded into silence, the last offering in place, the ritual came to a head. The scars on Kash's arm glowed with a dark red energy, his eyes going pure black. At the same moment, Vax's eyes went similarly blank and black. Two energies, both black but also completely different, coalesced around Percy's body. They weren't merging. It was like oil and water, the two pushing against each other. Percy's body lifted off the table as the power of two goddesses moved around him. His eyes were open, black as Kash and Vax, but he was otherwise still and cold, his hands dangling limply at his sides.

A woman stood by the table, surrounded by shadow. It was impossible to make out her features. There was just darkness. And then the shadows resolved into dark hair, feathers, and a porcelain pale face. No expression, just a blank mask. She touched a hand to the side of Percy's face, then to the raven skull around his neck. There was an unearthly stillness, before the energy slammed through Percy's body, even as he remained aloft, striking the metal table and leaving it dented and cracked. Percy's body fell back to the table, the woman vanished, and everything faded back to normal. The satchet fell from Percy's chest and clattered against the table, undamaged, the residuum and the diamond having shattered into dust. The raven skull at Percy's throat glowed with a faint blackness before that faded too. A brush of a hand on Vax's shoulder. A quiet voice in his ear. "What's done is done, my champion."

Stillness.

Stillness.

Silence.

Long moments passed with nothing happening. Almost too long. And then a quiet breath.

Vax had felt his entire body flood with the Raven Queen's energy, frozen and locked in place, his sight stolen from him before a moment until the battle and feud for domination had settled, coalescing into the form of the Raven Queen at Percy's side. For all that Vax had hoped that she would aid them in this situation, this... This had been the very opposite of what he'd expected, her fully and very nearly corporeal as she had poured her energy into Percy. The touch as she receded was gentle, reassuring, in a way that Vax found surprising. It seemed there was still a lot that he had to learn.

As Percy breathed, Vax's own breath caught in his throat, his legs buckling for a moment as he gripped the side of the table to keep from crumbling in relief. He'd been so scared, to terrified that they weren't going to be able to get him back, that his worst fears were going to be fulfilled. But now... God, now, they could thankfully just breathe.

Staring down at Percy, it took a moment before it dawned on Vax that while he might be breathing now, Percy was still very much unconscious. His hands moved from the table where they had been holding him up to Percy's chest, pulling him up into a kiss as the warm glow of divine energy seeped into him, "Hey, handsome. Raise and shine."

For a moment there, both Vex and Kash weren't sure that this was going to work. Kash was keeping oddly quiet about what was going on. She definitely didn't want to worry anyone that two dark goddesses were encircling each other, trying to decide who went and did the deed. But when Percy finally took a breath, and the spell faded, Kash felt completely and utterly drained. His eyes returned to normal, but he was exhausted. Maybe not as bad as Percy, but definitely tapped out.

"I don't know what the fuck that was, but we just dodged a bullet there. By the smallest or margins. No pun intended. Let's never ever do that again." They had come really really close to Vesh that time. And since she had 'lost' who knew how pissed she would be. Great.

Vex looked quite relieved at everything. Nearly tears of joy. Thank god it was over. She looked about to say something when instead, she witnessed her brother.. kissing Percy. Oh. So that's what they had been up to. Right. Should have known. She let out a nervous exhale of breath and turned to Keyleth, since well.. she was having to witness that too. "Keyleth, I don't know about you, but I absolutely need a drink. This place has a bar, right? Drinks are on me. Kash, Zahra, you're welcome to join." A smile on her face, like nothing had happened and she hadn't had her heart ripped in two. Twice.

She turned and walked away.

Keyleth didn't know what was happening. The clashing energies, the black eyes. She didn't dare touch and disrupt, so she moved nearer to Vex instead, curling fingers around the other woman's wrist. They were all locked in now - stuck being nothing but observers, hoping it ended well.

When the figure loomed over Percy, Keyleth's instinct was to defend him. Or what was left of him. There wasn't any real threat in the woman - or whatever she was. The Raven Queen, Keyleth supposed. But there wasn't any comfort either. There was ... blankness. But she still just wanted to curl over him and cast a Sunbeam, just in case.

She stayed where she was though, listening for each breath in the silent room, trying to hear if Percy's lungs filled again. What's done is done, the Raven Queen said. It sounded like a no, and Keyleth wished, again for Pike. She wished for Scanlan, because if ever there were someone who could change the mind of a god by talking, it was him.

But then she saw Percy's chest rise, heard the indrawn breath. Percy's always-pale face started to look less lifeless, and Keyleth breathed out a soft sob of relief.

Raven Queen or not, it had still been Kash who took the risk, who was there for them, and Keyleth gave Vex's wrist a last squeeze then reached up for Kash, dropping her hand onto his shoulder. "Thank you," she said, quiet enough that even in that room, it barely carried to him.

When she looked back at Percy to see Vax stepping up to heal him, it almost took a moment for it to penetrate just how he was doing it. Keyleth blinked. "Oh," she said, startled. Vex had just ... and Vax and her ...

Well that was something else she didn't know and that made very little sense and she was just going to not thinking about it right now. But it was less upsetting than death. Keyleth took a deep breath and stepped up. "Let me help." Percy was coming awake again, but he was still weak looking and too pale. Keyleth silently hoped Vax had been right when he said this place was safe, and they wouldn't need to fight today, and used her energy to Heal Percy, restoring him as well as she was able, hand curled in his to cast the spell.

When the warm energy of the spell faded, Keyleth let go, stepping back and looking at Vex, swallowing. "I could use all the drinks," she admitted. "But I don't know that I want anyone out of my sight yet, either." She didn't want to crowd him, or rush and demand answers, but she still couldn't help but ask. "Percy? Are you ... you're all right, aren't you?" She winced as Vex turned to leave - why did everyone always do that, if Vax did it too, she was vining his feet to the floor. "Vex," she said. "We could all go, later?" somehow, she doubted that would work. She understood, but still. She just wanted them all to be together. At least until they knew what all of this really was. Then they could lick their wounds in private, if they had to.

There was darkness. And pain.

Percy had no idea how long it lasted, just that's it felt as though he was being torn apart. And all the while, there was Orthax's voice. Its laughter. The sick feeling that, after everything he had done, this was what he deserved. This slow, horrible torment as his soul was shredded and consumed. There was no real concept of time in this place, whatever it was, but it felt like days, or maybe weeks. It was hard to keep track of anything but pain. And then, long past the point where he had given up hope that it would ever end, there was a hand. Keyleth's hand. And it broke Orthax's hold, even as the demon fought with everything it had to hold on to his damaged, fading soul. Then Orthax was gone. Really truly gone, the scar in his spirit gone. And he was tired. He was done. He just wanted to rest, to let it all fade away until he couldn't fuck up the world any more than he already had. Vox Machina would keep their word. They would wipe any trace of his work from the face of the world. It would be better to just let it end now. He had brought about his own destruction. Why fight it?

But something held him there. He couldn't remember what. There were flashes of emotion, of connection, of belonging. Something pulling him back. And then a cold touch and the sudden feeling of being back in his body. A breath. A kiss. Consciousness. And then healing. He could tell Keyleth had poured all the healing she could into him, but he still felt tired and shaky and wrong. His hands trembled, worse than the ever did normally, and he clenched his fists against the feeling. His head was fuzzy and he couldn't see without his glasses. He wanted to speak but the words wouldn't come. He felt weak. But he was alive. Somehow, he was alive.

"What...how..." He was struck with a sudden thought and he grabbed Keyleth's hand tightly. "Thank you," he whispered to her. "Thank you. I saw what you did. Thank you. How long have I been..." He was distracted, suddenly, by Vex walking away. "Vex?" He called, hating the way his voice shook. Did she regret it? Had she paid some price that was more than she could bear?

Vax hadn't meant to make things awkward, simply having followed his instincts and sense of relief, but he realized both in his sister's words and Keyleth's halting awkwardness that seemed momentarily more pronounced than it was normally that he had. God, they all had so much to talk about. And they couldn't very well recover with Vex walking away to go and drown her emotions in alcohol with Zahra and Kash.

"Come on, Stubby. Don't do that," Vax said, his voice a quiet plea as he watched his sister. He was reluctant to leave Percy's side, but in this moment, it was his sister that needed him more. And Percy had Keyleth with him right now. He could leave without feeling too bad about it. Standing, Vax followed Vex, settling a hand on her shoulder to try and pull her back to the group. "We've all got a lot to talk about, okay? Maybe we should hold off on the drinks for a bit."

With Vax's break away from the huddle crowded around Percy, Harry moved, shifting from the vigil he'd taken back away from the main assembly towards where Percy was, reaching out a tentative hand to touch his shoulder, the disquiet and disbelief in him needing the solid reassurance that he was alive, that he was fine. It was one thing with Hartley, when it was the oddity of the city that had brought him back in one piece, but this was something else entirely. Magic, prayer, the manifestation of deities... Harry had no idea how to reconcile that with all of his own ideas about reality.

But if Percy was alive, he wasn't going to question it.

"Hey, kid. Maybe try not to do that again?" Harry suggested, a strong hesitation in his form as he took another step forward. "Is it all right if I..." Harry asked, peering across at Percy and sparing a brief glance at Keyleth as she stood next to him, before pulling Percy into an embrace, resting a hand on the back of his head as he held him. "Please, don't do that again."

With a short sigh, Vex slowly came to a stop and looked over at her brother. "What? You mean like what we're going to do next? How we're supposed to get out of here and go home? We can talk about that later. There's nothing else to discuss. It's been a very long and horrible day. Percy's back and that's all that matters. Nothing else. Honestly.. Fine, I'll wait until later. I just need some air. That was a very.. private thing done in the middle of people I don't know. I'll be out here."

She slipped just out of the lab and waited outside. There wasn't any reason to stand there and gawk at him, as far as she was concerned. She could check on him later, when there wasn't people around.

Kash, on the other hand, turned to Keyleth and nodded his head. "I'll uh.. yeah, be out here.. waiting." so so so awkward. And he didn't even know what to say at the fact that the guy who had basically called dibs on Keyleth was now kissing another person. Whatever. Wasn't any of his business. He wasn't sure how to answer Percy's question, because he wasn't sure how long it had been. More than a minute, that was for sure.

Gilmore waited patiently, not quite sure what the heck was going on. Well other than apparently no one had told Vex about what they had been up to. When Harry was done hugging him, he turned to Percy. "Welcome back. We should get you into bed. You look like hell and could probably use a sleep."

Zahra gave Vex and Vax a moment before she followed. She stopped long enough to gently squeeze Percy's shoulder before she pulled Kash along. She really wasn't certain what all the fuss was about but the awkwardness in the room was palpable and it seemed best to get her friend out of there before it got any worse.

Upon seeing Vex outside the lab, she pulled her into an embrace. "Oh, my darling," she said softly. "Let's get you properly shitfaced. You really look like you need it."

Hartley, meanwhile, had held his tongue through the whole weird as shit ritual. He hadn't said anything about Vex kissing Percy or the redhead shouting at him or Vax having fucking wings. It wasn't his business. He was just glad it worked. Percy was a weird, broody nerd, but he was fast becoming their weird, broody nerd. Plus he understood what it was like to die and come back. And while he may have had his issues with how his friends had maybe dropped the ball where he was concerned, he knew they had been happy he had come back. They'd made sure he knew it. So once Percy was back and everyone was focusing on all the wrong things, he felt a strange, overwhelming anger filling him. Especially when he saw the confused, hurt look on the kid's face.

"All right, assholes," he snapped, almost shaking with anger and frustration and an unnamable emotion. Maybe he should have taken Cisco's advice and stayed away. He just wished half the group hadn't already left. "Maybe before you go panic about having emotions, just maybe, you should tell your friend, who was dead and apparently being eaten by a demon, that you're glad he's back. Since all of like...two of you have bothered to do that. Otherwise, we're keeping him and you can have visitation when you manage to pull your heads out of your asses. Or can you only give a shit when he's a corpse?" He stopped, feeling slightly awkward. "Uh...good to have you back, kid. Glad your weird magic shit worked and you aren't dead any more. If you need someone to talk to, I have some experience dying."

"Learning how to talk about things more might be better for all of us," Vax said, having reentered the lab in the middle of Hartley's speech. There wasn't really anything that he could do for his sister in this moment, especially since he wasn't entirely positive what her issues were, whether it was what he'd done, what had happened, or the stress of having to conduct the ritual in the middle of a space that wasn't their own. But, either way, as Zahra had stepped past him with Kash to follow Vex outside, he'd sighed and turned back around. They'd probably be able to do Vex more good than he could in this moment.

"Besides, I think there's enough of him for us to share," Vax said, flashing Hartley a sympathetic smile. It had been amusing, at first, to Vax that Percy had made so many friends before he'd even gotten here, but now, well... It was much more uplifting for there to be even more proof that Percy was someone worth caring about. He just hoped Percy might eventually realize that.

"We've been managing it so far," Harry said, flashing Percy another smile as he stepped back and Vax stepped back into the space he'd occupied before.

"We thought we'd lost you, Perc," Vax said, putting a hand on his shoulder. "You look like shit. But at least you're breathing now."

She hadn't hurried to the labs. There was enough time in the ritual and she had seen enough of her family dead. It was too much. Seeing her last family member dead was not something that she felt she could come back from. Tucking her hair behind her ears, she took a deep breath before opening the door.

"Where is my brother?" she asked hoping like hell that her voice sounded strong and not as terrified as she felt. What would she do without him? Sure, her brother's friends were there but they weren't Percy. "Did it work? Is he alive?"

Her heart almost beat out of her chest while she waited for an answer.

Keyleth really did not know what was happening. Percy grabbed her hand and his hands were shaky, but the grip at least was tight and solid, and he spoke. She softened. "Don't thank me. I-" She grimaced. There really wasn't anything to thank her for. She hadn't done enough. "Too long," she said. She wasn't even sure how long it had really been, if time ... altered between where they'd been and this place.

She pulled her hands out of Percy's as a man she didn't know stepped up to Percy. He'd been there all along, so Keyleth assumed he wasn't a threat or the others would have said so. But he was still a stranger, crowding in too close and touching someone who had just been gone and was still vulnerable. She watched, warily, but the man looked at her first like he was waiting for ... permission, and he seemed to know Percy. So Keyleth stayed where she was. Just in case. But didn't try to stop him.

She also didn't try to stop Vex from going, or Kash and Vax and Zahra from following, though she really wanted to. Or she wanted them all to scoop up Percy and go somewhere very defensible and much less ... strange and let Percy rest and explain everything. And then go in corners to sulk if they needed to. Visible corners. Where no one was somewhere they could disappear without the others knowing unless they were being sneaky, overly stealthy twin types about it.

But then someone else was talking - yelling, actually, and Keyleth's teeth ground a little. She didn't know any of these people and the people who did know them were walking out or recovering from death and Keyleth was not prepared for yelling from strangers on top of it. She flicked her hands, lighting the flames at the tips of her fingers. "Okay, can we maybe just ... back up, people I don't know, and be quiet for a minute?" Keyleth snapped. "We've all had a really shitty day."

"Uh," Cisco said, grimacing. He really had not wanted Hartley to come in, and he also felt out of place there, but he'd wanted to know it came out alright. But meltdown central was probably not helping anyone. Especially Hartley, who was clearly putting a Very Personal Spin on this. For obvious reasons. He'd had friends who hadn't paid much attention too. So he got it.

But he also didn't want the new elf type to set anything on fire. Including Harry, who was closest, or to overwhelm Percy, who was looking pretty shaky. He reached for Hartley's arm, trying to tug him a couple of steps backward. "Maybe let the magic people handle their magic things for a minute," he said.

Keyleth relaxed, a little, when Vax came back in, and then blanched when she saw Cassandra, stepping aside. "He's here, Cassandra. He's alive. He's-" Keyleth started to say fine and then stopped, because looking at Percy, she doubted that was true. "-right here," she repeated instead.

She narrowly avoided setting her own clothes on fire when she moved out of Cass's way.

Percy shook his head. "Thank you," he insisted. "What you saved me from...knowing that is no longer waiting for me...thank you, Keyleth." He took a shaky breath. "How long-" he said again. "A day...maybe a little more." The reply came from Vax and Percy's eyes widened. "Only a day?" he asked. "It felt like so much longer. I don't remember anything about what you all did...though it must have been a great sacrifice for Vex to be so upset...and I don't-" he cut himself off from saying that he didn't deserve that sort of sacrifice after everything, "-but I remember Orthax...though I would rather not...and I remember Keyleth stopping him. But it felt like so much more than a day."

He allowed Harry to hug him, giving a shaky breath. "I make no promises," he said quietly. "There are several ancient dragons back home to fight. Who knows what will happen there. But I will do my best." Then Harry was stepping away and Shaun was there and he gave him a very tired smile before resting his head on his lover's chest. "I desperately need to sleep," he admitted, "but I do not know that I can. The idea of it...it scares me. I do not think I will like what I see when I close my eyes."

Hartley's exclamation was surprising but Percy let him be. He had heard enough in his time with these people to know it was less about him than it was about Hartley's own struggles with dying and coming back. Besides, it was a nice sentiment. Of course, Keyleth getting defensive wasn't surprising, given she had to be confused. "Keyleth, dear," he said gently, "please put away the fire before something explodes. We are safe here."

Vax's words provoked a quiet laugh and he shook his head. "You truly are a poet for our time," he said, even as Hartley moved to a nearby desk and pulled something out.

Hartley, meanwhile, shrugged off Cisco's hold. "The magic isn't what I'm worried about, Cisquito," he said. "It's the people bit. They suck at that." Vax made him shake his head with a derisive snort and he pulled out one of the gold "you tried" stars he kept on hand for when people were especially stupid, reckless or ridiculous. Walking over, he stuck it firmly to he half-elf's chest.

Percy wasn't sure what that meant, but he was immediately distracted by Cassandra's entrance. "Oh god," he groaned into Shaun's shirt. "Someone kill me again." He did not want to deal with Cass's anger. Or worse, her disappointment.

Gilmore was right there, letting Percy try to smother himself with his shirt, and tried carefully to pry him away from it.

"I think you might have to suck it up and let her have her say," he said softly. He gave a small smile and reached for his hand, giving it a squeeze. "Better to get it over with, so you can rest."

The look he gave to Cassandra only asked that she be gentle.

Hopefully.

Making her way to her brother's side, Cassandra put her hands on her hips. "You are a proper idiot, Percival," she said softly. "You are supposed to come back to me alive. Alive."

It was hard to decide what she wanted to do. Cassandra was torn between hugging her brother and punching him. "Are you alright?" she asked finally "Do you need something? You should probably eat."

Finally, she gave in and leaned over to hug her brother. "If you do this to me ever again, I will hurt you."

Keyleth was rattled and unsure of what was happening. But she still stopped, gave Percy a quick wry smile. "We wouldn't have let that be ... your end, no matter what." Even if they couldn't raise him, they would have found away to follow Orthax back to whatever Abyssal hell he dwelt on and killed him there to free what was left of Percy to find some kind of peace. That much, at least, Keyleth was sure of. Once she'd known what was happening ... she couldn't have left it like that. No one else would have wanted to either. "We couldn't get back sooner. We were meant to be in Whitestone with Pike but we were ... here, instead" Keyleth said, biting back the urge to apologize for not getting Percy back faster, or where she meant to go. He was shaken enough, he didn't need to have her babbling apologies at him too.

Percy dropped his head onto Gilmore's chest and Keyleth blinked again, since that was ... also not what she thought was happening. Her eyes went to Vax, but she said nothing, just made a face, looking at the yelling man again before dousing her hands. She truly hoped they were safe, or she'd be little use. Again.

No one else seemed concerned about the strangers, so Keyleth just watched, when the one that had been yelling walked over and ... slapped a star on Vax's chest? Vax didn't look worried, but it was one more thing Keyleth didn't get at all. She edged further out of the way to give Cassandra room to get to Percy, rolling her eyes at Percy's reaction. "No one gets to die again anytime soon," she told him.

Cisco snorted a little at the gold star. "You know no one is going to get that but you and me and Harry," he muttered. He didn't try to grab the guy again though, just stayed close behind him and watched worriedly and noted that this was way too many people for the lab. Maybe he'd add an occupancy limit to the rules no one followed.

Harry had stepped back rather suddenly when the flames had sprung up on the redhead's hands, eyes going slightly wide. Magic was never going to be something that he could wrap his head around. At least their metas ran on some sort of scientific backdrop, a biological or physics based problem to which there was a solution, but that... Well, he could think of a dozen different ways it could be achieved, but he doubted any of them would be the reality.

"We really probably should have done introductions at some point," Harry said, his focus entirely on Keyleth as the rest of the people present were entirely aware of their identity and the very reason that they'd come here to begin with. She was the only one that was confused, and since none of the rest of them seemed to be making any efforts to clear up that confusion, someone had to. "Harrison Wells. That's Cisco Ramon and Hartley Rathaway," He said, pointing at each of them in turn. "We're friends of Percy's. Though, I imagine he'd probably say colleagues," He said, a certain sort of fondness in his voice.

"They're friends," Vax piped in, glancing down at the gold star on his chest. He knew what gold stars were for, congratulating a job well done, but looking at this one more closely, it seemed to be for a job attempted but not quite succeeded. Snorting to himself, he glanced up, grinning as he reached out and tapped Hartley on the cheek, "Awww, Harts. You're adorable."

Harry just rolled his eyes, smiling despite himself, "You should all probably head back to your apartments. I imagine you need rest in a place that's a little more comfortable than a sterile lab environment. If you need anything, I can help."

Vax grinned, slinking over and hugging Keyleth around the shoulders, taking comfort in the fact that the heaviness of the moment seemed to be easing away. Probably not as fast as it would have if Scanlan had come with them, but still. "Oh, man. Now he's going to dad all of us. I wasn't prepared to be adopted today," Vax said, sparing a glance over at Percy with a wry smile. ""Sorry, Percy. I guess I'm your brother now."

"Have some sympathy for the recently dead," Percy grumbled, but allowed Shaun to pull away. He knew he couldn't actually avoid talking to Cassandra forever, even if it was an appealing idea.

"That...has been said," he agreed. "I know, Cassandra. I know. And I am sorry. But it was..." He had to force himself to breathe as he tried to say the name. "It was Ripley. And Orthax. And I could not just allow the monsters I created to wreak havoc on the world. You must understand that." Cass understood better than anyone, he imagined. She had seen what Ripley had done to him when she had tortured him. She knew how dangerous she was.

He gave a quiet, brittle laugh. "I am...far from all right," he admitted. "And I imagine it will be some time before I am all right again. But I am alive. And I am here. And that is...enough. It has to be. I should rest. I don't know that I can eat just yet...but I will do my best to rest." The words rang hollow. He was exhausted, but sleep was a terrifying concept. He didn't want to relive what he had suffered at Orthax's metaphorical hands, and he was sure that was what would be waiting when he closed his eyes.

He allowed Cass to hug him, bringing his own shaking hands up to return the embrace. "I know," he whispered, closing his eyes and pressing a kiss to the side of her head. "I know. Just...just a few dragons and then I will take a break from all this adventuring and be boring for a while. How does that sound?"

While the siblings talked, Hartley gave Vax a deeply unimpressed look. "Do that again," he said mildly, catching Vax's wrist in a gloved hand, "and I will put you through a wall." Yes, he was wearing his gloves. He'd wanted to be prepared just in case the resurrection went sideways and they had to fight some kind of demon. Which, it had turned out, hadn't been far from what had happened. Except that the redhead had done the fighting. With magic.

Speaking of, He turned and offered Keyleth his hand. "Hartley," he introduced himself. "It's very nice to meet you, Keyleth. It's nice to see Percy has at least one other friend who isn't an idiot. And yes, I am including my colleagues in that." He rolled his eyes at Harry and Vax, as they proceeded to prove him right.

Percy, meanwhile, gave a weak smile. "I suppose a proper bed would be better," he agreed, "if I must sleep." He wanted to ask Shaun or Vax, or both, to stay with him, but it felt terribly selfish to do so. Vax would likely need to worry about Keyleth or Vex or the both of them. And it wasn't fair to put his worries on Shaun. He would be fine. Or he would manage. Something. He had a great deal of experience being fine in spite of the odds.

"I imagine that would make things quite awkward," he said, before stopping. Keyleth was here. And he very much doubted Vax had time to explain the way things were with him and with Shaun. It was probably better to give them some space for the moment. "Keyleth, I imagine you are very confused. This is rather a lot to take in and we had a bit more time and less chaos to do so. I have no doubt Vax'ildan can explain everything if you need. I would offer, but I really am exhausted."

Getting to his feet, he stumbled, swaying slightly before righting himself. "We should really go. I think we have caused enough fuss here today."

The name filled her with rage. The sort of rage she hadn't felt in a long time. Her shoulders tensed up for a second and she nodded. "I understand," she said softly. "I don't like it but I understand it." She hated that he had to deal with that woman again. She hated that she couldn't do anything to help him with it worse.

She nodded. "That's fair," she said softly reaching up to run her hand over his hair. "Rest and peace and quiet are what you need. So many people here."

Cassandra closed her eyes at the kiss. "Don't you lie to me, Percival," she teased gently. "You will never be able to take a break from adventuring. You would get so bored that would kill you. Just be a bit more careful. That is all I ask. You're all I have left."

Keyleth tilted her head a little as one of the strangers - the handsy one, not the yelling one - introduced himself and offered his hand. Hers weren't on fire anymore, so she cautiously took it, shaking quickly, looking at the other two he introduced. The one who'd been quietest gave a little brief wave as Harrison said his name. Keyleth waved back. "I'm Keyleth," she said slowly. "Also a friend of Percy's ... and everyone else. Except you. Since I don't know you." That came out much more awkward that it had in her head.

Keyleth shot Vax a look, brow knit. She desperately wanted to ask how they were all friends, and how they knew one another, and what, exactly, was going on, and why had no one told her about this if they were all so familiar with this place and these people? But it wasn't the time, so she didn't. She still leaned into Vax a little though, taking the comfort of the contact where it offered. "I really don't think it works like that," she said. Since that was most definitely not her father and Vax would probably have used his actual hands to cast that spell if Percy was his brother.

"She's dead," Keyleth said quickly, after Percy gritted out Ripley's name. "Ripley, she's gone. If it ... helps at all." Cassandra and Percy had a lot tied up in their memory of the woman. At least they could know Percy's death, averted or not, hadn't been for nothing.

She frowned a little at Hartley for the mild threat to Vax, but Vax didn't seem concerned. And Grog threatened him with worse than that on a daily basis, so Keyleth let it go, though she shifted to keep herself between him and the still mostly defenseless Percy, just in case. "Percy has a lot of friends who aren't idiots." Keyleth stopped and then amended. "Who aren't always idiots." Because they were all pretty frequently idiots. "And he has one who isn't." But Pike wasn't here. "It's ... well it's nice to meet you, but honestly it's probably still too weird to be nice to meet anyone." She looked at Percy. "Is there an inn or somewhere safe he can rest?" she asked. She smiled tiredly at Percy. "Confused doesn't even BEGIN to explain it. But Vax can explain. You should rest. And then later when you wake up and Vax has confused me more, you can explain it better." She gave Vax a smile that tried for teasing, but was still a little strained.

"He should still have his room here, whichever building it was in before. I can call a Flashcab for a ride," Cisco said. He was still standing behind Hartley, the strange out of place uneasiness not really abating once Percy was back, though he felt a keen sense of relief. He was watching Percy though, trying to see if he looked like he needed more than magic mojo and they should call in Caitlin or hit the hospital. So he saw when Percy stood up, and he was close enough to step up and try to catch him by the shoulder to hold him upright. "Whoa, maybe-" he started to say, and then stopped mid-sentence.

Cisco's powers were a work in progress. Most of the time he had a handle on it, but then the universe's timeline changed, or another dimension went out of whack, or his date turned out to be an immortal hawk warrior or one of their friends turned out to be their evil arch nemesis and something just came off the wheels and switched him to on without his say so. This was definitely one of those times.

He touched Percy and abruptly the world went the sort of indistinct, overlaid reality Cisco associated with Vibing. But it was more intense. It had gotten like that once other worlds got crowded in, and since he got here, there were so many other worlds. Not just different timelines or realities, just flat out other worlds. He'd gotten a glimpse here and there and tried to shut that shit down in a hurry because Cisco really didn't feel like getting laid out with a brain bleed.

But sometimes there wasn't any stopping it. So he saw a flash of Percy, and then it was like a rewind, watching flashes of a timeline in reverse. Dying and demons and before that dragons and forests, glades gone suddenly dark, underground. Further back to just a kid, his whole family dying and then him running, his hair getting darker the further back it went.

And branching out everywhere were flashes of other timelines, moments of how things might have gone. Some worse, a lot of them better. From what Cisco could tell though, the timeline that played out had sucked.

Cisco thought he heard someone say his name, but he wasn't sure, and his hand had turned into a vise around Percy's shoulder, but he didn't realize that, either. His vibe-vision shifted again, flashed forward back to the present. Or not the present. Before it, some dark seething thing held on to a brighter, but flickering presence that Cisco could recognize as Percy and the demon that held him. Orthax, he guessed. It was the scene he'd just watched, the redhead yelling, all of them standing around. But now his view was of what she'd seen, what she broke away. And how the essence of what was Percy was getting ... eaten. Chipped down and away.

Another flash and then Cisco wasn't there, he was back at the place they all seemed to call home, back in D&D land. Whitestone, he'd heard them call it. He watched the same ritual happen in a quickfire flash, but it didn't go the same. There was a woman there - all tiny and bright - instead and the other men who traveled with them.

Time moved forward, possibilities branching out from there again - realities where Percy didn't get back up, where someone else went down for him, too many to map out and Cisco's head's dull throb was turning into more of a sharp, icepick kind of stabbing.

Finally he was in a room with the same people, Percy looking about as tired as he did now, and a man he didn't recognize talking, his face changing as he did, starting to flash green and scaled. Someone yelled out a name-

And Cisco stumbled back letting go of Percy's arm as Keyleth pushed between them, her hand steadying Percy and the other one pushing Cisco back as she scowled. She didn't knock him over, but she pushed him away from Percy.

Cisco blinked, vision a little blurry with the headache. But it was fading as the visions did. "Uh." There were people looking at him, so he assumed it had been long enough for that to be noticeable. "Sorry," he said to Percy. He probably shouldn't say for your entire life, but it was a near thing. He'd really like to sit down and have a pound of Advil now.

Keyleth looked between him and Percy, a little distrustful again, since the man had just HELD ON to him and ignored his name and looked like something had been going on. But she didn't say anything, in case it was something else she just didn't know about yet, peering at Percy again instead and then starting to offer him her arm to lean on before stopping and looking back to Cassandra to let her take the spot if she wanted to instead.

Harry had arched an eyebrow at Keyleth's statement, a vague smile lingering on his features all the same. He was sure that it probably wasn't meant as harshly as it came out, the tinge of worry and some sort of natural 'not sure what to do when it came to new people' edge surfacing in the word that had just made his nod, "I promise you, strange as we are, we're not a threat. I'm sure most of you could kill us without lifting much more than a finger if you really decided you wanted to. We're researchers, no warriors," He said, sparing a glance at Hartley and rolling his eyes at the threat.

Vax, on the other hand, was just smirking, a sense of good-natured relief circling around him even at the threat, "Don't waste your energy on me," He said, arms still curled around Keyleth. "You know I'm just giving you a hard time."

Keyleth's words about Ripley were enough to pull Vax's mind back on the matter of the moment, though, an intensity seeping into him that hadn't been there a second before, "Torn to pieces and left to rot like the garbage she was. I know it would have been more satisfying if you'd done it yourself, Perc, but she's gone either way."

Vax intended on explaining, as much as he could, when they had the chance to settle, but he knew Keyleth was right. He probably would lay it out all wrong and in a way that she couldn't possibly understand. Mostly because he would either forget things or skip over stuff or talk in circles because he wasn't sure what he'd already covered. But he'd give it his best attempt, anyway, "I'm not that bad at it," He countered, though, even as his own smile with equally as teasing, trying to relax some of the strain from Keyleth.

"We don't have to bother Barry," Vax had started, only to stop the second that Cisco caught Percy's shoulder and seemed locked in place, his entire body tensing and seemingly going stock still. Stepping away from Keyleth, Vax had moved forward, followed by Harry who seemed to form a ring of concern in the moments that ticked by until Keyleth moved to push Cisco, breaking the connection between the two of them.

"Everybody all right?" Vax asked, torn in that moment between exactly who had done what and who needed the most attention right now. He really wasn't used to having this many people in one place who needed someone's attention, and really... It was probably best Vex had left so he wasn't pulled somewhere else as well.

Though, if she was around, he probably wouldn't feel nearly as divided. Vex always won out. No matter what.

It was all well and good to keep talking and the like, but after whatever was happening to Cisco, he figured that it was time to actually put an end to all this.

"Alright, that's I think enough for one day. Come on, we're putting you to bed. Or at least into a bed, even if you don't sleep. Keyleth, will you help me?" And with that, he went to help put his arm intertwined with Percy's so he could steady himself and then started walking towards the door. Hopefully with Keyleth on his other side.

As he walked, he tried to fill her in on what this place was, and that they were pretty safe here. He explained about dinosaurs, and how most everyone was living together in one place. He was happy to answer questions that she had. Anything to maybe distract everyone while they got Percy home and into bed.

"Rest...rest will be good," he told Cassandra. "Peace...I am not so certain that will come, Cass." He wasn't certain it was something he deserved. "As to the rest...you are right. I would get dreadfully bored. Besides, this lot needs me to keep them out of trouble. Don't know what they would do without me." Which had come far too close to being the case, and was probably in poor taste to say.

Percy shook his head with amusement at Keyleth's awkwardness. She really was terribly endearing when she got like that. That thought, however, was driven out of his head when Keyleth told him Ripley was dead. "Oh thank god," he said. "That does help. It helps a lot." He gave a small, pained smile at Vax's words and shook his head. "I do not care that I was not the one to kill her. I am just glad she can no longer hurt anyone." He had meant what he said before he died. He had forgiven Ripley. He would not forget what she had done to him, how she had hurt him, but he was done holding on to vengeance. It had never done him any good.

"I would, however," he said after a moment, "like to have her gun...once we are certain it is free of corruption. She killed me. That entitles me to her shit." And the cloak too, but he figured that went without saying. The vestige seemed better suited to him than the others, judging by what they had seen in the fight. And it really suited his aesthetic."

He rolled his eyes at Hartley's mild threat, even as the scientist looked at though he might use his gloves on Vax just to prove a point. "We are," he said, "in fact, all idiots. Complete idiots. Except for Pike. She is all things wonderful and it is truly a pity she is not here. And Shaun, of course. He is...glorious." He gave Keyleth a smile. "But do not worry. Vax will explain everything. And in the morning, I will make it all actually make sense after he mucks it all up."

Then Cisco's hand was on his shoulder and he felt...something, as the man froze up. This carried on for a long moment, too long. He was actually quite concerned. He wasn't sure what was happening, but he was certain it wasn't good. Then Keyleth was between them and he felt unsteady again, his head swimming, but he still managed to give Cisco a concerned look. "It's quite all right," he said after a moment. "Are you okay though? That looked a bit...I do hope you are all right." He'd have to ask Harry later what that was. It appeared he knew something. As did Hartley, but that seemed like a bad idea, given how protective he could be when it came to Cisco.

Speaking of, any politeness Hartley had toward Keyleth fell away as she shoved Cisco aside. "Stop threatening people," he snapped. "This is not your place and we have been helping and Cisco didn't do anything wrong so calm the fuck down. Touch him again and we're going to have a problem." He wanted to like Keyleth, he really did, and he got that she was protective of her friends. But so was he. He wrapped an arm around Cisco, pulling him aside to a chair and speaking to him softly in Spanish. He gave Harry a look, asking him to get some water and aspirin, as they reached the sofa. Sure the druid, he assumed she was a druid what with her giant fuckoff antler headdess, could probably get rid of Cisco's headache with magic, but he didn't want her near him right now. Right now, he trusted her about as much as she trusted them.

"It's all right, Cisquito," he said gently, knowing his boyfriend was always a little shaky after a Vibe, and that looked like a powerful one. It was why he had been very careful to avoid touching him in the immediate aftermath of his own resurrection. He should have stopped him from getting so close to Percy, especially with all the weird magic and shit around. "It's going to be fine. You're okay. Just breathe. I'm right here."

Percy just stood there, confused, then put a calming hand on Keyleth's arm. "It's fine," he said hoarsely. "He didn't do anything to me. It's okay, Keyleth. I'm fine. Just relax, please. You're making me anxious." Maybe if he framed it in terms of himself, he could get her to calm down and stop feeling threatened by everything.

He shook his head with a snort of amusement at Shaun's words. "I'm afraid I won't be much use for anything in a bed but sleep," he told him. "If that." He frowned as Shaun and Keyleth attempted to help him walk. It made him uncomfortable, having to rely on other people. It always had. "This really is not necessary," he insisted, gently disentangling himself from them and moving forward. And...okay, that was a bad idea. It was only Vax's speed that saved him from collapsing to the floor in a decidedly ungraceful heap, or faceplanting alltogether. "Or," he admitted, "I could be wrong. Yes...I was very wrong. Oh god, that was a terrible idea. Do not let me do that again." He leaned heavily against Vax's side, then let Shaun step back into place beside him, reaching around him for Keyleth's hand and giving it a gentle squeeze.

"I am a very stupid man sometimes," he said with self-deprecating humor. "I am more than willing to admit that. Now someone please get me to a bed before I make more of an ass of myself." Sleep might not come, but he was reasonably certain he would not be left to face any demons that lurked there alone. And if all else failed, maybe they could break out that drink from Ank'Harel. He had no doubt that would knock him out and give him a dreamless sleep if he had enough.

Vax had been trying to split his attention between six different people at the same time, trying to gauge Keyleth's level of confusion and comfort, how much Shaun had a grasp on the situation, what had happened with Cisco, just how angry Hartley was and whether he was going to react about it, what Harry might be moving to do in this situation, and just how steady Percy was when it came to getting back to their apartment. It had also been a divided concern, an intense desire to help everyone at the same time but knowing that he wasn't capable of doing that. Or at least, it had been until he'd seen Percy begin to topple over.

One click of his boots of haste later, and Vax had situated himself on the other side of Percy to keep him from colliding with the floor, all other thoughts and distractions pushed from his mind. Percy had been their immediate concern when they had arrived here, and he should still very much be their immediate concern now.

Sometimes it was very easy for Vax to forget just how much Percy pretended to be fine when he really wasn't. It was far too easy to just let that pretending stand.

"Come on, Freddy. On your feet," Vax said, hefting Percy to his full height with a smile. "It's a shame I already burned through my wings, or I could have just flown you back. You think you're up to walking if we all help, Perc?"

Keyleth ... would really rather Percy not have the gun. But she'd felt that its link to Orthax was severed at least. She could look again, maybe Gilmore and Kash too, just to ... cover all the bases. "We're not all idiots all the time," she argued, just because Percy was smiling and that was better. "But we have our moments."

The moment with the other man went on too long, and everyone seemed at ease with these people, but Keyleth had just gotten worried that he was doing something she couldn't discern to Percy, and pushed distance between them. She grimaced when Hartley's previous kindness vanished, though she understood. "I wasn't threatening him, I just couldn't tell what he was doing. There just seemed to be ... something," she said lamely. She watched through narrowed eyes as Hartley drew him back, but didn't try to stop them.

Cisco grimaced. "I'm fine, it's cool," he promised Percy. There were way too many people here and he needed to figure out what he'd seen and what it meant when everyone was less jumpy and his eyes had fewer needles in them. He'd just talk to Percy later. The guy had just died anyway, he wouldn't want to hear about the instant replay of his crappy life Cisco got. He gave Hartley a thin smile as he was nudged to sit. He'd be fine in a minute. He always was. And he should probably do something about the hovering, but at the moment it was kind of nice. So he didn't say anything. Though there would be a talk about threatening hot redheads in his honor at some point, probably.

Keyleth bit her lip. "All right, I'm sorry, I just ..." she trailed off and sighed, but nodded to Percy, and let them take her outside and lead the way. She listened to Shaun as he explained and kept an eye on Percy, offering help and probably hovering more than he'd like, but trying not to. (And she wasn't especially sorry, considering he almost fell on his face to begin with, save for Vax's reflexes.) She looked for sign of Vex, Kash, and Zahra too, and tried to get some better sense of the scope and size of the city.
