What makes a hero? How adaptable is man?
Without that, what remains? Where did we go wrong?
What don't we know?


HYPOTHESIS: The root of humanity's current crisis is an ill-fitting and over-reaching government which does not meet the needs of its people. We posit that by examining exceptional examples of humanity from a variety of worlds that we can identify the nature of mankind through its aspirations and responses to environmental stressors. Through these observations, the Wittgenstein Institute will determine the best methods of governing which will then be recommended to the International Armed Services Alliance for the Colonization of Novel Planets.

SPECIFIC AIMS:
  1. In order to examine the fundamental nature of man, heroism, and survival, we at the Wittgenstein Institute will subject heroic individuals ("specimens") to a variety of alternate world simulations, problem-solving tests, and psychological examinations.

  2. Individual Wittgenstein researchers shall divide care of specimens into separate communal housing which reinforces central goals of their respective philosophies.

  3. Specimens will be humanely sacrificed at the end of the experiment.



Experiments begin 15 May 2017

Charles Xavier opened the Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, a school for young mutants to be themselves and learn to control their powers, in 1965. While it had some hard times through the late 60s and 70s, it was re-opened briefly in the 80s before being blown to pieces by an explosion.

Rebuilt by Erik Lensherr and Jean grey and once again re-opened, Charles Xavier continued to take in more students, and hope for a peace between humans and mutants.

20 years after it's second re-opening, a new mutant came to them without entirely understanding their power - at first his power appeared to be similar to Nightwing's, but they learned shortly after that it was anything but that. The student wasn't just able to teleport in the one dimension, but in other's as well.

In attempting to learn control to only teleport in one world, he made the mistake of teleporting between different worlds too many times, and created something of a wormhole. It wasn't something that stayed open all the time, rather at random times. And when it did open, it brought various people through with it.

People from different universes started showing up - doubles of the same person, lookalikes, various species, they all started to show up at the mansion and inhabit the small town of Salem Center.

The Professors are still trying to learn how to teach the student control, and have no idea how to get people back to the proper worlds.

Inside of a dense nebula at the edge of deep space, a rupture in the space-time continuum slowly begins wreaking havoc on people across time, space, and multiple universes. The consequence? Without warning, individuals are plucked out of their own lives and into a new one in the year 2264. These travelers are given room and board on the Enterprise, the opportunity for either education or employment with Starfleet, and the opportunity to explore the galaxy on board the Enterprise.

And then people began to vanish. A mysterious cult known only as the Abyssimus had somehow become established in multiple realities, picking their targets wisely in order to utilize their powers for the own ends. Their goal? To recreate existence in their own twisted image. Worlds began to collapse from the sheer power they were using with survivors straggling across the multiverse.

Their existence shrouded in darkness on multiple planes, the cult forced heroes from different realities to confront each other to keep them off their trail. Many fell to the ploys of the cult, spending more time battling each other than looking for the real source of the problem. But there was still hope. A mysterious group of benefactors with untold power stepped in to give aid to those trying to save the multiverse.

...They all screwed up. Bad.

The damage was done and the would be saviors saved who they could, merging the remains of the multiverse graveyard to house everyone they could in a singular and mostly stable reality. Unfortunately, Abyssimus, which survived the destruction, quickly did the same in the hopes of causing enough chaos to allow them time to try again with what remained.

A new reality was born, one with heroes, demons, aliens, and more. Histories are similar, yet different... and in the dark corners where no one dare venture, Abyssimus still lurks.

At a glance, Gemini City looks like any other large city -- skyscrapers, businessmen hurrying to and from meetings, cabs honking in traffic, etc. Residents will find many of the same amenities they would in other major cities they may be familiar with. There is an impenetrable shield, however, that covers the entire city, which prevents citizens from coming or going at will. The city itself experiences normal seasonal changes, most comparable to somewhere on the Eastern United States seaboard. Outside the shield cover, there is ambient sky, which changes from day to night when the city does. The ground is simply featureless green grass. We are a panfandom roleplaying game that has been up and running for a year now with an active, welcoming group and as such are always excited to see new players and characters. While we do have a light monthly activity requirement, we are plot-driven, with points being seen as a bonus for extras/fun stuff, not a major focus. With our one year anniversary, the plot is heating up and anyone can help unravel it. We accept canon versions of characters, AU versions (including past game history as long as others in your fandom have okayed it), as well as original fandom characters. Original concept OCs will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Most RP tends to be between G and PG-13, however there are occasional mature situations. As such, all players must be over 18 years old. The citizens of Gemini City come from many different worlds and places in time. Some have been here longer than others, though the Mayor’s Office has not released statistical data on arrivals. There are no true ‘locals’ and the city prides itself on being a sort of universal melting pot. If new arrivals ask how they ended up in Gem City, the city employee that greets them will tell them that no one has figured this out yet.

ADDITIONAL INFO

The "background" or NPC characters of Gemini City all come from various fictional worlds as well. Some places -- both fictional and not -- have also been brought to Gemini City in the same way that people have. What this means is that your character could find themselves working at a marketing company with Don Draper, getting coffee at Central Perk, or taking in the sights at the world-famous Vincennes Zoo.

Pastiche
An incongruous combination of materials, forms, motifs, etc., taken from different sources; hodgepodge.
It all started with a story. Several really, each one evolving in their own little reality in time and space. Everything seemed to be perfectly normal in each reality... And then people began to vanish. A mysterious cult known only as the Abyssimus had somehow become established in multiple realities, picking their targets wisely in order to utilize their powers for the own ends. Their goal? To recreate existence in their own twisted image. Worlds began to collapse from the sheer power they were using with survivors straggling across the multiverse.

Their existence shrouded in darkness on multiple planes, the cult forced heroes from different realities to confront each other to keep them off their trail. Many fell to the ploys of the cult, spending more time battling each other than looking for the real source of the problem. But there was still hope. A mysterious group of benefactors with untold power stepped in to give aid to those trying to save the multiverse.

...They all screwed up. Bad.

The damage was done and the would be saviors saved who they could, merging the remains of the multiverse graveyard to house everyone they could in a singular and mostly stable reality. You awaken to the sweet smell of flowers and the tang of ocean salt in the air. The sun is shining and it's a beautiful day! You and your fellow arrivals have been chosen to create your own civilization on the Island of Paradiso by the Powers That Be, the gods and goddesses of this land and sea who are saddened by having witnessed the end of humankind as they know it.

You might feel just the slightest bit dizzy and fuzzy from the trip, which you either knew was coming (without knowing exactly when), because you volunteered for the project or because your memories have been altered in such a fashion that you believe you've volunteered. Either way, when you wake up, you inherently know exactly where you are and what your purpose is. You've been tasked with helping to create a new world, responsible for aiding in building the community all the way up to repopulating the planet.

You'll arrive with the clothes on your back and whatever you happen to have on your person at the time; the first arrivals will also have a few helpful tools to start, but on the whole, your job on the island is to build your society from the ground up and you inherently already know that upon waking. Don't try calling out to friends and family — why would you? You've volunteered, so of course you've already let them know you'll be unavailable for the foreseeable future — because you're on a whole new planet. Good luck getting that cell phone to connect, anyway.

While you're here, you'll be expected to build shelter for yourselves. You'll need to hunt, gather, or garden to acquire food and there are plenty of freshwater lakes on the island for water. If you want more than the outfit you're currently wearing, you'll have to make new clothes. You'll be living off the land. And, of course, you're going to need to procreate eventually if you want your civilization to thrive, expand, and become sustainable. ...it might be easiest if you all work as a team.

No laws, no leaders, no religion; what kind of society will you help to build? Welcome to Paradiso. We're looking forward to seeing the new world as built up by you and your peers.

Paradiso is an oc-friendly, panfandom game set in the middle of a social experiment being conducted by the higher powers of the island in an attempt to re-establish civilization. Characters will awaken on the island and will have no initial access to a steady food supply, electricity, hot water, or any other creature comforts; they will need to build, maintain, and expand their own working society with the supplies they can find and the skills they possess. Over time, if the gods and goddesses favor their "volunteers," they may offer some creature comforts along the way with a little touch of magic.

It is a sex game that will have adult situations and occasional mod-prompted plots.
