Set in the fictional community of Winter River, essentially several hundred thousand acres of land in the woods of New England which have been fashioned as a self-sustaining town for agents of the Superlative Defense Coalition, a branch of the government which polices those with extraordinary abilities and physiologies. In order to earn their freedoms (land owndership, high education, licenses to marry and the ability to procreate and raise children), these superlatives work to serve their country for a period of time that is never greater than ten years, though service can be continued voluntarily.
