 The year is 1979, and things have gone all wrong. Voldemort gained followers and power quickly and the Order of the Phoenix was unable to stop him. In the midst of a big battle that took place at the Ministry of Magic, England was practically destroyed. Explosions filled the air that night, curses were flying in all directions. Too much magic in one, confined space. Things began to crumble and many died with it; witch, wizard, and muggle included. The whole country is in chaos, mass panic filling the air. Muggles are blaming a meteor crash, saying that it fell directly onto London and vanquishing most things around it. The magical folk are the only ones who know the truth, that something happened that night at the Ministry. No one is sure what exactly, but whatever it was... was powerful and now all of England lies in shambles. The Wizarding World needs a leader. It needs hope. It needs a future. | August 10th, 1990: the Wizarding radios of England switch on by themselves in an emergency message. King Pollux I is dead. Panic runs through England as questions of how a seemingly healthy wizard of only 78 might die - and how his sickly sister Cassiopeia will possibly be able to manage an entire kingdom. But she is crowned just a week later and placed on bed rest the moment the crown is set upon her head. Without any children of her own, the political factions of the Wizarding world begin to stir, knowing her days are limited with such poor health. Some stand behind Regulus Black, the son of the dead Crown Prince Orion. They know that Regulus has the youthful energy the crown needs, and of his strong desire to crush the political party known as ‘Death Eaters’. But there's also the issue of his family history- after all, Sirius II was muscled out of his throne in 1955 by Pollux I due to "insanity". Others wish to see Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy grab a hold of the throne. They already have an heir, Draco Malfoy. Sensibly blood purists, their willingness to play ball with the Death Eaters and clean up Hogwarts is attractive. The fact that they are society darlings certainly doesn’t hurt either. And then there are those who wear the Dark Mark on their arm and wish for their radical Lord to take over. Seen largely as a cult, they grow in number daily and Voldemort seems to be the extreme answer to the fears of purists. The fact that he has Bellatrix Lestrange, disowned by her family for following another leader, is not missed. But there is a final group: one that would do away with the throne all together and hand the power back to the Ministry. The Order of the Phoenix, headed secretly by Albus Dumbledore, has Sirius Black as the poster boy for redeemed purists and the hope of a future without absolute rule. Cassiopeia’s health is failing. The beats of her heart are numbered, and everyone is wondering who will take the crown. |
